Isle Of Man Airport

❌ Not Verified | Lovely little airport the bigger airports could learn from them, had a meal before returning flight and it was value for money and extremely tasty, clean toilets and helpful happy staff, it has encouraged me to also visit the island for a holiday.

❎ Not Verified | Absolutely the most incompetent, unhelpful and rude staff I have ever come across! The line for security was ridiculously long (only opening one of the lines as opposed to two) with uneducated staff causing a group of people to miss a domestic flight they were all over an hour early for. After emerging from security not only did they miss a flight but they were told extremely rudely “it was your fault I’m sure you would be able to arrive earlier” yes maybe, but they should have to. I am completely appalled at the state of this airport. Serious action needs to be taken for this to be an appropriate place for anyone to go to. Honestly, the staff manners are just appalling.

❎ Unverified | My experience off your staff is that they are rude, inconsiderate and either too stuck on rules and regulations or don't care! I was told to put my liquids into a bag that was inadequate and did not meet the size that is recommended by air travel guidelines! The recommended size for travel is 20cm x 20cm, the bag offered to be was barely 18x18! This meant I had to throw items away unnecessarily. The older lady was ignorant and rude, she didn't even look at me but just shoved this 'sandwich type bag' in my face. The bag I had was adequate and fulfilled the standard, it had got me through check in at Gatwick with no problems. Its like their staff just wanted to cause stress and upset where none was needed. Pedantic is our the word! My ID was never checked, my boarding pass was scanned and on I went. I could have been anyone but obviously the two women were more interested in their gossiping than security! Not a good experience and not an airport I would recommend. I suppose being the only airport, you probably know you can get away with acting like this and providing rubbish service because not a lot of people have a choice to go elsewhere. Very very bad show!

✅ Verified Review | Have been using this airport my whole life however today I actually experienced the legendary queue. 40 mins to get thru security in a small, provincial airport. The security area has been expanded however there was only 1 scanner open and less than helpful staff. The excuse was that there were a couple of flights leaving within 10 mins of each other! If that's the case, roster on more staff. Lots of stress, temper and disbelief from passengers, not a good experience.

The airport itself is fine but the security is on power trip. I had liquids in a plastic zip bag and security demanded I put it in a flimsy sandwich bag. The liquids bag I use is clear same dimensions, I have traveled internationally with said bag no problem. Isle of Man could use the tourist dollars. They should be facilitating passengers not putting them through a gauntlet of meaningless regulations. Traveling here is an ordeal. 6 months ago had similar experience with a Gate agent at IOM.

Nice small airport, good check in efficient and extremely friendly security. Excellent seating airside and good cafe after security or full restaurant before security if you prefer. On arrival bags came out quickly. No airbridges but covered walkway to terminal.

A small, very basic airport. Appears to have had some over investment in terms of a massive control tower for 15/20 flights a day - money that could have been better invested in improving the customer experience. The drop off area outside this tiny airport should be completely satisfactory for both dropping off and picking up. However, the latter is not allowed which is absolutely ridiculous and policed quite miserably. My flight had landed and I was walking from the plane with hand luggage, told my friend that I would be with him in 2 or 3 minutes and he was told to pay to wait in a car park. Typical desire to charge people to use the preferred piece of tarmac which leaves a bad taste for the inconvenienced customer. The check in area is absolutely fine - plenty of space. The upstairs airside area needs a better lay out and better shop/cafe. Security was a breeze albeit seemingly very overstaffed. The departures lounge and dungeon need a bit of spruce up as it looks quite dated. They have a early 1990's "Budgie the Helicopter" sit on ride which repeatedly tells you to "hop on board and lets head for the skies" - infuriating. I don't think I've ever seen a child ride on it in the last 12 years. This area tends to get busy and the dungeon downstairs is a grim and dark room that again gets crowded with an Easyjet flight and becomes a little disorderly when people are called through. With a bit of investment in the right areas, the experience could be much improved.

Ronaldsway is a small airport which is generally well run. It has very expensive parking charges which you either have to pay or finish up forking out £20 each way by taxi. There is a bus service but it can be rather miserable waiting in a draughty bus shelter for a not so regular service. During the summer months going by bus is not so bad and will set you back £2.70 each way. Food is very limited after you have gone through security. There is a Costa coffee counter which sell the odd sandwich but not much else. Okell Beer is available on tap. There is a cafe outside security which serves hot food but tends not to have alcohol available unless in bottles. The Private lounge for business users is rather small and can get rather busy.

Security control at Ronaldsway is a joke. We arrived 2 hours before our flight departure to Liverpool. We were the third family to check-in. We spent more time at the security scanner than the duration of the flight. Only one scanner was working and the female operator appeared to be a total novice. She took my hand luggage out of the scanner and placed it on one side. She did not re-scan it until every other passenger had gone through. By that time the airline had actually put out a tannoy message telling us to proceed to the departure gate immediately something we had never encountered before in over 50 years of overseas travel! The 'offending items' - Manx smoked bacon Manx smoked salmon Manx smoked kippers! The male officer who was supposed to be mentoring her was himself involved in a dispute with two men over an aerosol deodorant which they had been allowed to take through at Manchester International Airport but was considered to be to dangerous by this security commissar! Get a grip Ronaldsway. Next time we'll take the ferry.

A very pleasant small airport. Facilities in the departure hall are good given the size of the airport and has a very pleasant atmosphere with comfortable seating. There is a rather strange glass corridor which one enters when leaving the terminal to board. It offers some protection from the elements for about 75% of the distance but the corridor is open at the bottom for some reason which gives a very cold atmosphere. Baggage retrieval is fast and efficient. Security can be rather slow at peak times - only one scanner available. Staff are friendly. All in all - I like this airport.
