I flew Lufthansa BOS-FRA-BOM return. It was not a good experience at all. Staff are extremely rude and not helpful. The internet access computers were not working and the prices everywhere expensive.

Check-in at terminal 1B for flight to Sweden. Surprisingly friendly staff at security check and very short wait for week-day morning. Sufficient seating at gate good selection and price in airside shops. Unfortunately no airbridge for boarding LH flight. Coming back bus service to terminal again but quick baggage delivery.

We flew Condor Air to Frankfurt. We got in late and had to find our way with no offered help to Lufthansa Airlines Service which was a great distance from our arrival gate. When we asked for directions from security a vague 'follow the signs' was the only offer. By the time we got to the service area our options were limited to a flight 3 hours from our original connecting flight to Paris. Lack of signage discourteous security and absolute ignorance by the airport personnel made us determined to never ever fly into Frankfurt again. We also had to exit and re- enter security.

I am an avid Star Alliance Gold traveller and Frankfurt is the main hub for Europe. I recently flew from Istanbul- Frankfurt -Newark. I had 1.5 hrs connection thinking it was suitable enough. My plane at Istanbul was delayed an hour due to air traffic in Frankfurt. Once I arrived at FRA the jetway was not in use so we were bused over to terminal 1B. Once I got there the walk was 1/2 mile and took a train to 1A (US flights) and then a security screening. At the security there was not even a Business Class/Star Gold line which I though was unacceptable. Luckily my flight to Newark was delayed an hour or else I definitely would of missed it. Terminal 1A has to be the ugliest part of Frankfurt Airport because there are very few shops and it is worn. The Tower Lounge is pretty nice but would expect it to be nicer for a 4 Star airport. No matter what anyone tells you you need at least 2 hrs if you are connecting from a European flight to an Overseas flight.

I recently travelled from Seoul to Oporto which involved a 5 hour transit time. Signage is confusing staff are rude and not at all helpful. Returning to Seoul this time from Milan it didn't get any better luckily once again I had a long time in transit. The only positive feature of this airport are the Senator lounges.

Very unfriendly and stern security control personnel. They tend to bark orders instead of welcoming people with a good morning. Not to speak about the patting down of the passengers done in front of everybody.

Frankfurt Airport is by far the worst airport that I know. The airport has the advantage for travellers to/from Germany that it is directly and conveniently connected to a train station serving the ICE highspeed trains. However that is the only positive thing that I can think of. As many others have noted transits from the Schengen to non-Schengen-area are extremely difficult and if you don't have a lot of time they become reminiscent of an olympic decathlon. You have to run down extremely long hallways while trying to look out for the few small signs that might indicate where you have to go. Then you have to carry your stuff two floors downstairs (only to go two floors upstairs again in the next terminal). Of course there is an elevator but if you are in a rush then you don't want to wait for it. The gates are often overcrowded and there are very few places where one can sit. And one can not point out often enough how rude the staff is. As a German I can only say how ashamed I am at how rude many Germans are when they are placed in a customer-contact situation. It is both the reason why I avoid Lufthansa and why I avoid Frankfurt Airport.

I stopped travelling via FRA about 3 years ago after several unpleasant for all the reasons mentioned by others transits in a short space of time. Last week I had no choice but to use this airport and was expecting it to be bad. It was worse than I had imagined with impossibly long queues for check-in and passport control between non-Schengen to Schengen long walks poor signposting everything that others have stated. It's a pity and for this reason I will avoid flying LH in future unless I can hub through MUC. I know LH don't own the airport but they are the biggest operator and ought to be able to influence better service delivery.

After reading horror stories about transit at Frankfurt I booked a ticket with 6 hour layover - how smart decision was it! Not just because Lufthansa delayed my inbound flight by 2 hours but even then having 4 hours to spend on transit I just made my connecting flight. I was connecting from non-shengen to shengen area of the airport. Immigration was open in the following proportion: 6 desks for eu passports (fairly empty) and 4 desks for the rest of the world. No line management no idea of what waiting time is and around 300+ pax from ex-China flights arrived at the same time. After 20 minutes of looking for someone who should expedite us to the right line I've just came to the eu desk (I'm not eu citizen) and went through it however need to say that the officer was quite rude asked me for "invitation" despite the valid visa been in passport so it took twice the time it needed. Then another escalator flight down and quite long line for security where all duty free alcohol is confiscated even if sealed and cleared for being taken aboard. Then 20 minutes of trying to get to the right lift going to Schengen A gates. There you're locked into a long wing of the terminal with couple eateries and nothing to do even for a short stop. Toilets smelly and not properly cleaned. In no way this airport is 4 star facility. And never again will I use it for transit.

Frankfurt Main Airport customer review

(New Zealand)

After a very long flight from New Zealand via Thailand I arrived at Frankfurt airport and can honestly say that I have never met such rude and crass staff in 20 years of international travel. Transit from one terminal to another was fine with a shuttle train but the security queues were chaotic and managed in a very rude manner. I noted that few of the staff were actually proper Germans. The spectre of staff shouting at each other at 530am was not civilized. The Lufthansa ground staff are shockingly rude and I will not use Frankfurt airport again. There are more civilized alternatives!
