Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

One of the best airports in the world and comparable to Asian benchmarks such as HKG. Most recent time I used the airport two days ago I was late and arrived at the airport 2pm by train and made it at C04 at boarding 2.15pm. Security was very fast think they even upscaled a bit for the expected traffic due to Christmas. Unfortunately there was no time left to grab a bite or do some Christmas shopping but airport has sufficient places for that. In the past I have experienced once or twice (in my case <5% of times traveled through the airport) 45 minute wait for the luggage which was too long don't know what happened there the other occasion customs took too long but apparently it was a sudden peak and it took some time to call some extra staff. These two occasions however are not representing the overall performance. The walking distance are normally fine you can be unlucky when you have a stopover and need to go from H peer to B that will take a good twenty minutes. But that shouldn't be a problem for the average healthy person. Still better than a train or worse shuttle bus. So looking at the numerous experiences I had at Schiphol great airport.

Very bad experience customer unfriendly awful security check. Maybe good for shopping addicts but not for serious flyers.

Queues are really too long and security checks are very suspicious. It takes hours to cross the airport. Luckily it is clean and staff are quite nice.

I found the Schengen to non Schengen transfer in both directions had long queues at passport control I needed the 45/50 minute transfer time. On the way from UK I was given my Schipol gate by helpful staff but not at Madrid or on the plane. People had to push to the front to get their transfers (very politely). People got agitated at D gate though and one very rude English woman impatiently asked me for a gate number (at 64 with a suitcase and rucksack - do you think I looked like an airport official).

Chaotic. Confusing layout. Perhaps in the same league as Heathrow Airport. Definitely way below Changi or Zurich airport. My take is that Schiphol may have reached its handling capacity. It this is not true then blame it on the security check and passport control. These are the ones that are causing pain to the passengers. Will definitely avoid this airport in future trips. Prefer to use Zurich as entry point into Europe.

Good airport lost of destinations clean. However taxi's are the worst you can get in Europe. Avoid these and take public transport or ask friends to pick you up.

Although this airport is far above average I have been annoyed by a few disturbing 'patterns'. My last few arriving flights could not be accommodated at a gate right away because 'the ground staff had not arrived yet'. Even though the delay was less than 10 minutes I find this very strange none of the flights were early and taxi times after landing are extremely long (15 minutes or more) so I gather this should be enough notice. It also seems that connecting a jet bridge at Schiphol takes way longer than any other airport and ground staff seem to struggle moving the jet bridge having to make a few tries before doing it right. Schiphol is a large airport and the fact that 'moving walkways' leading back to the terminal almost always are out of use is just unacceptable. What is the problem? Signs say they are out of use for 'maintenance' but I never see anyone working on them.

Probably the best airport in the world! All processes link everything is smooth. Staff are very friendly.

Did a few passes through the Airport either starting my journey there or just connecting. KLM check in is anything other than customer friendly. The self baggage check in takes so much time almost everybody needs assistance. If they would use these employees (counted 5) at normal check in it would speed up the whole process and it would be more personal. The security check is by far the most awful I have seen most unprofessional unfriendly people working there. Hope your Gate is not one of the far out on the concourse otherwise you will miss your flight. My advice avoid Amsterdam Schipol if possible.

I like flying KLM however I find Schiphol such a poor airport compared to others in Europe. The shopping is poor with generic duty free shops found in any airport across the world. Very few specific shops. However the thing I dislike the most is that each gate has its own security meaning you can't buy a bottle of water after security to take on the plane. I drink a lot of water and find it helpful to take a bottle on the plane and at several airports I use you clear security and then are able to shop around and buy water however with security being right at the gate it is impossible.
