"never been treated with such disdain"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | We booked and paid for seats outward and return Gatwick to Bangkok via Kiev some months i advance . On arrival at Gatwick they had no record and and the same happened on our return. On returning we advised the airline and after numerous e mails forwarding copies of paid for seats we were promised a response within 3 months, that was on 23 April 2019 , we had no contact so after more e mails through reservations and ticketing , they contacted customer relations for us who advised them we would have a reply within a week (that was on 9 Sept 2019)as of now 21 October we have still not had a response from customer relations other than automated ones. The flights were ok and a good price but beware of customer relations. We have traveled with many airlines over the years and never been treated with such disdain, an awful advertisement for Ukrainian airlines. We would advise any future passengers to beware of this airline as they seem to not honor services paid for and have no appreciation of how to treat its customers .

"do not fly Ukraine International"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Amsterdam to Kiev. I flew with my daughter from Edinburgh Airport to Kiev via Amsterdam. The journey to Amsterdam was good and the airport in Edinburgh was fine. I had a extra baggage to pay for which cost me £31 one way. The journey from Amsterdam to Kiev was the different story. The service on board was slow and we had to pay for our food. We arrived to Kiev on Friday at 5 pm to find out that our baggage was lost. The transportation of the baggage from Amsterdam was handled by UIA as far as I understand. The bureaucracy of reporting loss of your baggage at Borispol Airport is absolute nightmare. They are incompetent and cannot answer any questions, just looking at you like you are a criminal who tries to steal their national secrets. They took all my details including the hotel we were staying in Kiev. I did tell them that we are in Kiev only one day and then on Sunday we are off to a different town 4 hours away from Kiev. On Saturday the airline texted my mum that my baggage will arrive on 5 pm flight but there was no mentioning that they will deliver our baggage. I was afraid and concern that we wouldn't receive our suitcase before we leave Kiev on Sunday. After phoning on numerous numbers because the number I was given at the kiosk at airport was switched off, I was told that I need to come and pick up my stuff myself. This was now 7 pm and me and my 7 year old daughter had to travel to Borispol to pick up our baggage, which is about 40 min one way. I am not going to go into the details of ridiculousness of picking up the baggage. On our return back to Edinburgh the things got even worse. I did not check in online and did not obtain boarding pass, I knew I had to pay for excess baggage and thought that I would do all at once at Borispol and get the boarding pass from the machine as I did at Edinburgh Airport. When we arrived to Borispol Airport and went to the UIA check in desk I was turned down and refused being checked in. She sent me to the self check in machine that did not work and referred me back to the airline kiosk. The is no clarity on anything with UIA and I did not know where to check in and where to drop off my suitcase. The staff seemed to be confused themselves and so incompetent. Cut the story short I ended up paying £119 for them to print my boarding passes and fee for the excess baggage!!!! On the plane the service again was slow, we were sitting at the back of the plane and the crew only come to us one and a half hours later to serve us. My advice to everyone who reads this review - do not fly Ukraine International Airlines. Avoid it at any cost. They play on the fact that you are travelling and god forbid you to be a foreign national. It is a fraudulent airline and they would take every opportunity to rip you off. The way how this airline operates should be investigated by some international authority.

"additional 60 euros for my luggage"

(Israel)

Trip Verified | Tel Aviv to Brussels via Kiev. I ordered a flight with extra luggage for both directions, and paid extra 34 $ on the internet. I even check and also sent a mail in order to be sure that what just happend today wouldn't going to happen to me, and I even spent more then an hour at Kiev airport in order to talk to the people to make sure that my luggage is applied for all the flight, and I have been told by the UIA employee that my ticket and my reservation is ok for the 24.3 flight as well. After all the checks, I came to Brussels airport and had to spent 1:20 hours dealing with the check in desk because they didn't take my luggage unless I am paying 55 euros that became 60 eventually. It is a real shame that after checking everything I still had to pass that hell at the airport and pay additional 60 euros for my luggage. That is make no sense at all, by this price I could have a direct flight without connection in Kiev.

"represents good value for money"

(Ukraine)

Trip Verified | Vienna to Kiev. Purchasing ticket via call centre using miles was easy and nice. The agent was competent and polite. I paid to select seat to check in online 14 days before travel. The website worked fine, I had no trouble accessing my booking and purchasing additional service. Please, mind their hand baggage policy! If you are on Eco Lite ticket you're only allowed 1 item to the cabin (wheeled bag or backpack). That's it. On Eco Standard you get allowance of wheeled bag plus backpack plus checked bag. So watch your allowance before going to the gate. Also on Eco you have to pay for airport check in, so better to do it online for free. The check in staff at the airport were nice, and there were no lines. At the gate it was also ok, but using a single bus for a fully packed plane was too unpleasant. Onboard all bags were sorted out fast and with no scam. The departure was on time. Legroom was good. Seat was comfortable, clean and with good recline. Toilet was tidy. Staff were polite. I didn't purchase anything, but you're given still water for free. Arrival was on time. with usage of bus again. This airline is not luxurious and their cabin bag rules are somewhat cheesy, but it represents good value for money, and it takes you from A to B on time. Call center experience was surprisingly superb. I read many bad reviews on them, but seems the main reason was not reading the rules before going to the airport.

"tries to steal any penny"

(United States)

Trip Verified | Kiev to New York. I had a flight with UIA for the 1st time this last September. I even paid extra and booked a premium economy. My confirmation did not say anything about extra charges and i paid the total online with the credit card. Unfortunate when i went to check in at the airport i was charged extra extra for not checking in online. Ridiculous and so frustrating. It seemed for me a corrupted airline that tries to steal any penny from everyone. I fly quiet a few times and no airline in the world has this fee at check in for not checking in online. Emailed the customers services at least 3-4 times and no one said anything. Would never consider to fly with this airline again. Everyone please make sure they don't have the hidden charges before you make the purchase. You can be supersized finding other better deals.

"every time it is a nightmare"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | I regularly fly this route and every time it is a nightmare. Finally I have had enough of this incompetent airline terminal / desk service and non working check in machines but most of all the most rude non knowledgeable staff I have had the misfortune to deal with. You can attempt online check in after being instructed to do so vie email message. On six visits now - I have managed to check in online once. You arrive at the terminal and then try to check in via the check in machines. It is a very complicated process but you go through the motions and find it leave a message use checkin desk. Thats when to get told to go back to the machine by the same assistant who stands with a pout telling you nothing while rubbing hand cream on her hands. Bypass this assistant and go to the desk and try to explain you need a boarding pass. they do no accept or know how to deal with any problem. And have the rudest attitude because they could not care. Finally not only me but many many passengers have to get angry at these very rude assistants. Whats worse is they are used by KLM for connecting flights. KLM do not accept any complaints of this airline although they work on their behalf. Kiev is a very modern fashionable city - god help them trying to promote any tourists or businessmen with have an airline so useless as UIA in this country. Seriously re think your trip.

"A traumatic experience"

(France)

Trip Verified | Yerevan to Paris via Kiev. The Yerevan to Kiev flight PS129 of 24/09/19 was delayed 2.5 hours. It landed Kiev at around 10PM but our connecting flight had long gone. My wife needs a wheelchair that I had ordered and reconfirmed before taking the flight. On arrival there was no wheelchair. Around 10 minutes later a guy arrives with one wheelchair for 2 people! (there was 1 other handicapped passenger). Fortunately, the other could walk from the plane to the terminal. At the International transfer desk, the guy of the wheelchair helped my wife to a seat, put the other handicapped in the wheelchair, signaled us to wait, and disappeared. When no one showed up after 30 minutes, I tried to inquire from the person behind the International Transfer desk as to what is to be done. It turned out that the lady does not speak neither French nor English. She just made signs to us to wait. At around 10:45 PM the guy with the wheelchair showed up. Smiling. As if nothing had happened. We passed through the immigration and fortunately we found our luggage. He then took us to another hall where there was a crowd around a teller window. It turned out that it is here that they assign rooms and transportation to stranded passengers. The wheelchair guy took our passports and signaled us to wait. After at least 45 minutes, he reappeared and led us to a window where, 10 minutes later,he came back with boarding passes for our replacement UIA flight to Paris. He then put us on a bus to take us to the hotel where we were supposed to stay overnight. However, before boarding the bus he insisted on having a tip. I had to give him 10€. At the hotel, the receptionist was surprised to see us. She insisted that there were no reservations by the airline and in any case the hotel was fully booked. We had to go back to the airport where, coincidentally and fortunately, upon our arrival, we met a woman who was calling our name to take us to another hotel! We reached this other hotel at around 1 AM and were told that we have to take the bus back to the airport at 6:30 AM and that we cannot have breakfast as the kitchen opens at 7 AM. Our flight to Paris was at 9:55. which we took on time. A traumatic experience especially when one is handicapped.

"one more upset customer"

(Indonesia)

Trip Verified | Ukraine International Airlines has a interesting new way to profit from customers. Now many low cost airlines will charge you for anything they can. But UIA went a step further. On Friday the 26th I used the online check-in to fly from Tel Aviv to Frankfurt via Kiev. The check-in took 5 minutes and was easy. On the way home though it was not. I used the same App to get my boarding passes and got a message that the airline can’t issue them as they needed more information. So I used the online call button, but when trying to do the selection it would not work. Sending them an email to one of the Helpdesk emails did not result in a solution. When I (after paying at the airport 15 euros to get a boarding pass) then contacted them they told me that they needed more information about my documents. Now I physically presented them these on the 2 flights, I took with them 2 days before. On questioning what was the problem with the docs, they did not have an answer. While the customer service was friendly, the company policy of UIA did not allow to resolve the problem. So the 15€ nets them one more upset customer that will travel with other airlines if possible.

"a very unpleasant experience"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | I had a very unpleasant experience with Ukraine International Airlines and think that it is worth leaving a 0 star review. I had a return flight London-Kiev-Minsk, and on the way in missed the second flight to Minsk. As a result I was taken out of the airport in Kiev with no other alternatives as to find my own way to a different country late at night - the point of the airline was I had a 'promotional' ticket and nothing could be done. Eventually, the return ticket was automatically cancelled by the airline (which I wouldn’t know if I didn’t try to check in online just a few hours before the flight). No refund, no notification, no alternatives. Definitely would not use them again and recommend everyone to think twice when choosing them, as you are risking to be treated worse than on the most budget airline, which has 0 customer concern.
