Singapore Changi Airport

Transiting at Changi Airport regularly for my trips to Europe and New Zealand and it never disappoints me! The transportation between terminals on train was convenient and save time. The airport was huge but super clean with a lot of gardens which gave me precious fresh air after long-haul flights. Shopping in the airport was fantastic. I also enjoyed sleeping and watching movies at Changi. My favourite airport!

Flew through this airport 6 times already this year. The service provided is by far the best. I was whizzed away by a buggy twice as I had a short connection between flights and was travelling only in economy class. The facilities provided is top notch. I can watch movies in theatre shop relax with the butterflies and surf the net while waiting for my connecting flight.

Definitely the best airport in the world! Been there several times. Painless and quick passport clearance every time.

I flew from Changi terminal 3. It's a huge terminal with many shops and restaurants and I can't imagine passengers getting too bored inside. However its problem is that it's really too big and sprawls to nowhere. Walking to Gate A21 completely tired me out. The most ridiculous thing is water. They sell bottled water after passing immigration but they don't let you bring the water bought into the gate. Why allow those shops to sell them if they aren't eventually allowed in? In the end I was forced to drink the whole bottle before entering the gate. It's nice that they have drinking stations inside the gate but frankly they are unnecessary if they scan passengers' baggage before they let people shop.

I had never used Changi until recently. Now I understand totally as to why this airport was rated the top in the world over several years. This is the airport that makes weary travellers feel relaxed. My 6-hour transit went by unnoticed. It is a total joy to be at Changi. I think a 5-star is an under-rating. This is how good Changi is.

Still the best airport in the world. Immigration staff need to be trained in hospitality. A quick smile can make a lot of difference. One immigration officer refused to handle a passenger because she didn't fill in her flight no in her disembarkation card. Instead she was made to fill it up herself and go to the back of the long queue. The same officer also barked "Excuse me!! Excuse me!!" for people to come to her counter. A nicer "next please" would have been more appropriate. Then my 5-year old started to throw a tantrum while waiting for baggage and a security staff passed by while giving my daughter a long stare. Very rude. Because of this the airport is only getting an 8 from me when otherwise it should have been a full 10.

Truly a world class airport. Though it is not as huge as the Incheon airport the space is well managed. The seating is comfortable since most flights have a long layover and Singapore Immigration allows exit only once for transit passengers. There are ample washrooms shops food places and rest areas. There's even giant screen movies kids areas orchid garden butterfly garden etc if you want to stroll around. The food is pricey but in T2 there is a food galley upstairs with some relatively economical options. There is no shortage of shopping varieties and you don't have to bother about passing the time. You can even find a quiet corner to just snooze or watch the planes take-off/ land or maybe just use the free internet wifi. The free leg-massage chairs are quite popular and I enjoyed them. There is a free skytrain like SFO connecting T3 with T2 so you can even switch terminals for more shopping options. There is a free Singapore Tour option available for transit passengers but only one way. The interior decoration of Changi is much better than that of Incheon. Signage is adequate and self explanatory. The staff are polite and ready to assist.

The airport is modern and convenient. However the temperature inside the terminal is uncomfortably high close to 82F. It makes no sense for the airport authority to save a bit on air conditioning. For locals familiar with warm weather this might be fine. But for international travelers this is almost unbearable!

Despite the long distances to get anywhere the terminal isn't very spacious. HUGE numbers of electric carts (carrying less-mobile passengers or pushing trolleys or often just empty) tear around the terminal making a lot of noise and because of the limited space constantly getting in people's way and risking accidents. And like many other airports the poorly-planned secondary gate security leads to long queues blocking the terminal passageways and making the electric cart issue even worse. Wifi doesn't reach all gates and forex services have very bad rates. On the plus side staff in every position are excellent.

Facilities are sufficient and services are mostly available when you need them. Immigration check is efficient. Food choices are relatively limited inside the checked area. Transport to/from airport is quick and easy. However night buses are not available after MRT closes and it forces travellers to use taxi after mid-night which is not ideal. I do not like the low ceiling inside the checked area (except T3) and do not like to be kept in a checked area at the boarding gate.
