Perth Airport

Arrived 11am from Air Asia flight. Only plane arriving at this time. Despite current renovations we were off the plane to car-park in approx 20 mins. Used passport smartgate. No queuing at any stage. Didn't need to interact with any staff although the duty free staff were touting for business as obligatory walk through duty free as a lot of airports do now. Overall an easy experience.

After Denpasar this is without any doubt the worst airport in the world and I have travelled a lot on all continents. Whereas in Africa I expect and am happy to accept third world infrastructure and service this is not tolerable here in my hometown. The airport is an eyesore from the inside and the outside with a ridiculous distance between the domestic and the international terminal. I apologize to our visitors always beforehand what an apalling airport they can expect. Perth missed its chance to build a 2014 worthy airport at the seashore instead deciding to keep the airport at the fringe of the CBD in the middle of sprawling suburbs. Immigration staff also seem to suffer under the ugliness of it all as they are about as friendly as the average airport immigration officers in the US. Grumpy just nasty people with authority complexes. Will this ever change?

Entry into Australia via PER was a breeze immigration staff were friendly and queues were short. Only complaint is that the taxi pickup zone is a far walk from the terminal building and signs are not clear indicating where they depart from. Departing PER was another matter. We had a 0200 departure and found the terminal to have very limited seating while we waited for the check-in desk to open. The departure lounge is small compressed and only offers a few cafes with limited seating. Airside options are similarly limited and gate lounges are too bright and clinical in appearance. Worse yet passengers are forced to walk through the duty free shop passing bottles of whisky that are stacked only a few feet off the floor. Not the kind of thing I wanted my kids remembering as we left the country. The airport is undergoing renovations so hopefully it will be significantly improved with the upgrades.

I will give you the benefit of the doubt that the renovations will be fast and a grand improvement but seriously please hurry I am ashamed as a Perthite every time I have to come here to welcome and farewell travelers.

Unfortunately I live in this city and to travel I have go through this airport each time as painful as it can be. The facilities are beyond awful food options are non-existent and there is nothing to do while you wait for your flight. Essentially you have a couple of small duty free stores a souvenir store and couple of other stores that nobody would even blink an eye at so I try to get to the airport no longer than 2 hours before a flight to reduce the time I have to sit around twiddling my thumbs. They don't even give free wifi to waiting patrons. It wasn't long ago you had to pay for a luggage trolley. Thankfully these are now free as they should be. To top it all off they still haven't installed aerobridges at the airport which means using a stairwell to board and this makes boarding with young children a huge hassle. Completely unacceptable in this day and age. So in conclusion after visiting many places around the world I can definitely say Perth is possibly the worst airport I have used. In comparison Hong Kong would possibly be my favourite and light years ahead in comparison.

What a dreadful airport Perth International is how embarrassing for Australia to welcome international visitors! No rail link which is generally unheard of at airports around the world. The facilities are non existent and very dirty. There is an upgrade happening at the moment but who knows how long it will take? The long term parking is an age away although the bus service is good.

A new airport! For any older passenger it is a nightmare. From the Emirates gate it is a very long walk to passport control with no moving walkways or golf buggies to help. Give me the old set up any day.

Awful facilities unclean the escalators screeching like they are about to break down. After my flight was delayed I was informed that you can't sleep in the terminal. After flying through airports like Changi Perth Airports image can't get any worse.

In fairness the new arrivals area and the upcoming upgrade to the rest of the terminal has and will make a massive difference. However the departure lounge is a disgrace there is no room to line up at the gates very limited food choices and the airline announcements echoing through the building destroy any chance of sleep or work. To make matters worse last time I was there about 30 minutes after clearing immigration and security a loud siren rang through the terminal telling us to evacuate. The lack of instructions and tiny exit signs made for a very slow evacuation. We had a 1 hour connection in Bangkok and the flight left about 40 minutes late. We made the connection after running through Bangkok with 2 minutes to spare.

Perth airport is filling in a string of Aussie terrible airports. I was transiting at Perth on 26/01/2014 for my midnight flight to KUL. Not only did it not have Wifi for the comfort of passengers there was nowhere to eat at the departure hall. The only thing I was able to do for my entire 5 hours wait was sleeping. I will try to avoid Perth international at all costs in the future.
