Luton Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

I had to collect an elderly relative and decided to park in the Short Stay Car Park. The surface is very uneven and very poor quality. It was raining and as the whole car park is on one level and outside we got soaked! The spaces are so close together. The route around the car park doesn't flow there are dead ends that if you aren't that great at reversing you would have a terrible time as there is no room to turn around. It took me 15 minutes to find a space and I was charged £11 for 1hr 40 mins which I think is a disgrace. What sort of impression does this leave people travelling into the UK via this airport.

Luton Airport is not up to standard staff are rude and lazy. Please do something about this as people will not keep using this airport and Wizz Air are so good. I used Luton on Wednesday 11th September and feel sad that I have to write such a bad report. The man who took us from assisted passage was so rude along with other staff.

I live locally and am so disappointed with so many aspects of the way customers are treated from drop off prices attitude at customs check points demanding only 1 plastic bags purchased unnecessarily and forced to back of huge queue to very long waits at passport control. So even though it is local I am now using Stansted or Gatwick.

The previous reviews sum up the Luton experience and there is little I can add that has not already been said. However what worries me is that this situation has been going on for at least 5 years without any signs of improvement. Passengers should simply vote with their feet as in my opinion this is the only way the management in this so-called airport will do something about it. All London airports have their limitations but Luton takes the biscuit. I am now carefully avoiding this airport even if it means paying more for my flight.

I had to pick up my daughter from Luton Airport. When you arrive at the roundabout outside the terminal there is a mass of signs and no time to decide. I saw the large sign for the drop-off and pick-up point and headed for that. £2 for 15 mins. I didn't see the smaller signs saying "unattended cars will be removed" but on returning after a few minutes I saw my car being towed away. The parking area was deserted so I suppose the tow-vehicle must have been standing around waiting for a fresh victim. It cost £180 to have it released. Apparently this happens about 20 times a day more at the weekend. I will never have anything to do with Luton Airport again.

Appalled with this airport. £2 charge for drop off is unquestionably exorbitant security staff are rude and answer back to customers check in is managed by incompetents with queues out the door and I had the novel experience of queuing at gate 18 which shares the same space as that for gate 17 on a flight of stairs. Mothers with children and prams were queuing on a flight of stairs. Luton is undoubtedly one of the worst airports I have experienced and it cannot fail to put me in a bad mood at the beginning of my holiday. I am ashamed that Luton is a British airport. Avoid it.

So Luton have come bottom in the UK airports customer survey! I am not surprised at all. Having to pay £2 to drop someone off pay for a trolley and then the total insult - having to pay £1 for 2 plastic bags for medicines and liquids! Total joke. I also use Edinburgh frequently and the 2 airports are poles apart! Luton seriously needs to wake up and smell the roses otherwise it will come bottom all the time.

Luton Airport customer review

(Netherlands)

Last month I went on a family trip with 2 adolescents and 2 parents to London. Since we were traveling with hand luggage only the departure hall seemed an easy hurdle for our return trip. After a pleasant stay in London we arrived in Luton departure hall an hour and a half before take off. There were long queues at the luggage counters especially the Easyjet counters. Confident because we could bypass this queue we took a short break before we went to passport control and security check. No written or verbal signs whatsoever about the massive queues that were ahead of us. Then after showing our passports and boarding cards we entered a huge space on this review site better described as an immigration hall fully packed with people duly following a labyrinth of ropes. The end of this story is also described by many visitors of this site. Queuing time for ordinary hand luggage turned out to take at least 1 hour. Customs officers working to rule having all passengers take of their shoes inspecting items while our gate was about to close. Running on our socks we reached on the off-chance the right place where 23 people were standing before an already closed gate. Going through the reviews more then 20 people missing a plane because of queuing times at Luton seems business as usual. I wish that I had read these reviews before! When you really take the chance of traveling via Luton airport be prepared to miss your flight. Easyjet will sell new tickets for 60 pounds each and in case it is late you can book a hotel for circa 45 pounds per room. We will at least think twice before making a new booking. The same counts for Easyjet who well aware of logistic problems at Luton doesn't take trouble in warning its clients in advance redirecting any complaint to Luton airport not in the least troubled by earning extra at the expense of its derogated clients.

What a terrible time at Luton airport. The security staff were rude and could not care less about standards and the way they spoke to people. When entering passport control on my return the situation at the passport desk was shocking with about 500 people trying to clear immigration. The immigration staff when confronted with concerns just looked at you as if you were from another planet. I am not using Luton anymore it is awful.

Luton Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

I've been using Luton Airport for over 40 years and have experienced its general decline to what it is now in 2013 the worst airport in the whole of the UK. In the last 5 years I've been travelling in addition to other destinations to Majorca between 5 and 7 times a year and it's almost a relief during the winter months when Easyjet don't fly to Palma to have to make the trip from Stansted which is 3 times the time and distance. The complaints are endless surly unhelpful security staff who often talk joke and laugh with their fellow workers about what they did last night and what they are doing tonight. Untidy and overpriced eating facilities. The lack of telescopic walkways to the plane makes it look more third world. I find it particularly galling that on arrival you walk up one set of stairs along a corridor then down another set of stairs. No other airport I've visited in the last ten years makes you do this. I now make most of my trips with just hand luggage as the baggage handlers must be the slowest in the country for what must be the shortest distances. I picked my son up from Luton a few days ago who had flown in from Edinburgh a lovely clean efficient and helpful airport and was aghast that they had put up the pick up/ drop off charge to £2. This is typical of this money grabbing terribly organised airport. I don't know how the new owners are going to improve things but if I may offer just one recommendation it is that they should sack every employee and make them re apply for their jobs and use a top recruitment agency from London who would sort the wheat from the chaff. NB. I always leave Luton Airport with a bad taste in my mouth which is brought about by the clouds of cigarette smoke that you can't void as you make your exit. Disgusting!
