Luton Airport

Luton Airport is my nearest airport and that's the only reason I use it. It has never been a great experience and I sometimes use East Midlands or Birmingham which are better. But I can't believe how bad Luton is at present. Yes I know they have major building work underway but this seems to be done with total disregard for passengers. The charge of £3 for drop off and pick up is outrageous and I really don't know how they get away with it. The drop off area is absolute chaos and the current road layout is causing major hold ups getting in to the Airport. We arrived for an early flight and there was a queue of about half a mile at 0700. The taxi driver told me this is nothing compared to peak times when it can be a mile or more. Baggage was a major problem on departure and arrival - were the baggage handlers on holiday? Easyjet had to stop checking people in for about 20 minutes as the baggage was not being removed from the conveyor belts. Coming back from Naples we waited 40 minutes for bags to appear. This is a terrible airport and I will use alternatives in future where possible.

I am utterly appalled at the charges incurred for dropping someone off at this shoddy airport. The traffic is horrendous and to then be charged £3 - yes £3 - simply to let someone out of the car is daylight robbery. It makes me sick to be treated in this way and to be blatantly ripped off. What other choices do you have? Even with a taxi you still have to pay this outrageous charge. Absolutely disgusting.

I know this is peak season but it took one hour for our luggage to come through on the carousel and then a nightmare journey with a trolley to find our taxi driver outside, with rubble everywhere. Cost £3.00 plus £7.00 as driver had to wait so long he had to go and park in the short stay car park. Incredibly disappointing and a rip off too. And they charge £1 for clear plastic bags.

Criminal to charge so much for so little. Before you even get to Luton airport there are long queues. Entrance in and out is chaotic with departures and arrivals sharing one tiny entrance. People are walking around the access roads with suitcases to try and avoid the problem. To top it all off they charge you £3 to drop off someone. £3 to sit in you car for 30 seconds whilst your passengers get out. A long walk to the terminal then more chaos inside. The charges continue for a clear plastic bag at security. Then they force you through duty free with no sign for the departure area. The duty free area is calm and well laid out. Funny how they manage to get their highest revenue area sorted out. Departure area is once again chaotic with people blocking walkways trying to find somewhere to sit. A third rate airport located just outside London. The chaos looks set to continue until 2020 so avoid Luton like the plague.

Building works at Luton airport are not a reason for the poor customer service. The standard of service hasn't changed in the last 6 years I have been using it, rude staff, under manned security clearance so to encourage people to buy express security clearance.

Impossible road access to Luton airport, the intolerable dropping off arrangements, the chaos inside the terminal, the lack of seats (but plenty of opportunities to shop!!), the ludicrous payments counter on the entrance to the airport lounge and the most expensive parking. The small roundabout at the entrance to the terminal and the frequent gridlock as passengers, buses and cars compete for access to the terminal building and car park drop off. It is argued it is to help keep cost down - for who? So much money has been spent on cameras to record those who stray over their time allocation in the parking areas it beggars the question as to whether this a game of monopoly with only one winner. Don't get me started on the toilets in the main lounge; totally inadequate for the number of passengers. The approach to Luton should be bulldozed and redesigned by people who understand why people fly and their needs for both departure and arrival.

I have used Luton airport/easyJet quite a few times but nothing prepared me for the horror of Luton Airport Dropping off/parking in June. As several people have already pointed out the approach to the airport is abysmal. We had already experienced heavy flooding on the A12 and M25 which had delayed us slightly but nothing prepared me for crawling along the approach road for about 45mins. When we finally got to the little roundabout for the short term parking/drop off we were genuinely concerned that they would miss their flight. There were cars everywhere, it was chucking it down with rain and chaos. Nothing was where it had been before, I found the signs confusing and to be fair was so busy concentrating of the mass of cars zipping here there and everywhere did not have time to sit and read them. Anyway, passengers jumped out to catch their plane. Mid July APCOA send me some nice photos of my passengers jumping out of the car in less than a minute. The photos had a nice clock which confirmed that I had not "parked" still lights on engine running etc. for less than a minute. They want me to pay £48.00 for the chaos as long as I pay up in 14 days then it goes up to £80.00. I appealed but have just been sent a letter saying that the appeal was turned down. On the day I am sure that the drop off zone was charging £3.00 but looking at other peoples comments it seems to range between £2.00 and £3.00. They quote it costs £2.50 in their letter. It is really a scam to charge for such chaos.

✅ Verified Review | Departure is bad enough but at least the Executive Lounge makes it just bearable . But arrivals is the pits. Landed at 1pm today, 45 minutes in packed, hot, smelly passport queue with the nearest toilets 10 minutes away. Despite 45 mins to get through passport control luggage had still not arrived on the belt waiting for 3 flights. 10 minute walk through building work to the mess they call drop off, took 40 minutes for my lift to actually make the approach there through queuing traffic. Then pay £3.00 for this mess. Finally away from this dreadful airport at 2.30. What a rotten end to a holiday, avoid at all costs.

Avoid London Luton at any point in rush hour / evenings and mornings. There are no seats to sit on when waiting for gates, no announcements and building work going on. Nightmare to get to the airport from the station and Luton is badly connected late at night. Avoid.

Will avoid like the plauge in future. Never flying through here again. Two poor experiences in 3 months. Last time our bags were left piled in a corner after being thrown through a door with no announcement where they were. On departure on friday there is more building work than airport left. Barely space to stand waiting for a gate to be called. And now on arrival its over and hr and half wait for our luggage. I have traveled all over the world and this is far the absolute worst for appearance, service, facilities, and staff presence (of which there is none). I will never fly though here again.
