Edinburgh Airport

Not Verified | Not the best airport I have travelled to and from in recent times. Fairly long walking distances to boarding gates, chaotic scenes going through security and airport staff not the most pleasant to deal with. Would avoid this place in the future.

✅ Trip Verified | Airport security line keeps customers away from their bags for too long while going thru security and when that happened someone took my bin with my phone in it and placed it back in the pile of bins and I lost my phone. The lady that was supposed to help me find my belongs was very rude as well. Should keep customers with their belongs as much as possible otherwise they can get stolen.

Not Verified | I’m from the area and I was returning back for a wedding and to spend a few days in the beautiful city. Found the city much busier to what I remember and an insufficient airport for all the tourists they are accepting it was one of the worst airport experiences I’ve witnessed. Overstretched and no space, this is not what a Capital of a country should be giving as a first impression, you need to make it bigger.

Not Verified | This must be the worst airport in the world for the provision of information. A group of us, all experienced travellers, were there at Edinburgh to pick up our children who were arriving from Amsterdam. We expected boards showing whether the flight had landed and what was the progress through customs et cetera. We went from one end of the airport to the other to try and find information. Why on earth does the airport not provide information like all others, and this is especially important as there are two arrival points at opposite ends of the Apple. To lack such a basic requirement does not qualify the airport for any more than one point.

✅ Trip Verified | Shocking service at Fast Track, rude member of staff! Parking a disgrace, paid extra for priority parking but no signs. Airport feels claustrophobic and cramped. Rude staff and gate also. Not one positive thing to say about this whole airport I’ll stick to Glasgow Airport - it’s fantastic.

Not Verified | I had a a mostly great departure from Edinburgh Airport last month. Check In staff were quick and couteous, the Duty Free staff member who served me went out of her way to assist me, and our departure was only a few minutes late. My only disappointment was the rude, female security guard that shouted at us for not using the redressing desks (that looked full up to me) which made it quite stressful travelling with my wife and child and we had a lot of hand luggage. She seems to be a common target for complaints in these reviews. The police just after security briefly questioned us but were polite. Overall a great experience and 10x better than a London airport. Thanks again to the Duty Free staff member for helping us out, and also well done to the whisky tasting staff who were very knowledgable and helpful. Cleaning staff were also very hardworking and the place looked clean.

Not Verified | Flew from Edinburgh to Amsterdam on the 30th June. We have been through multiple airports with our 21 month old daughter in the last 12 weeks with no problems - we have even been pleasantly surprised at the speed and politeness of airport staff. However this was definitely not the case at Edinburgh airport. From the unfriendly, unhelpful check in staff to the downright rude security gate staff, this place is a disgrace. The security gate lady was heard to bellow "let's go people" at families scrambling to get small children through gates. I asked another security gate lady if it was ok that I pick up my belongings. She said that she "would yell at me if it wasn't". I am sending a formal complaint to Edinburgh airport admin itself but in the meantime needed to vent my horror at such disgusting conduct.

✅ Trip Verified | We recently traveled on RyanAir thru the Edinburgh Airport. Prior to our travels we found this review website and read up on the airport to try and be prepared for the trip. We were very concerned with all the poor reviews and got a little worried that it was going to be awful. There was no need to worry. The airport experience went just fine. Some reviews talked about forever long queue lines. It is true the line may look long, but that is in part because you don't enter your gate until an hour before the flight. So if many people show up hours early, there will be a line until the gate opens. As soon as the gate was open, the line moved very quickly. The security checkpoint is right as you enter your gate area. Security was very quick and efficient for us. The other queue lines were in the check-in areas. This was also due to people arriving more than 2 hours before their flights. The check-in doesn't open until 2 hours before the flight. This would have been useful information since we got worried about the lines people were talking about and went to the airport 3 hours before our flight to make sure we got through on-time. If you are traveling light with no check-in baggage, an hour before the flight seems like plenty of time to me. If you need to check baggage, an hour before would still be plenty of time, but don't arrive more than 2 hours before, or you'll just be waiting. While waiting, we wandered the terminal a little. There were a few little shops. The bathrooms were clean and frequent throughout the terminal. There was also free wifi. I believe it was free for an hour, but it could be two. We traveled a few airports this trip and all had at least some free wifi. I didn't have a problem connecting. One thing to note is that allowed luggage size is different when flying in the UK and Europe, so if you're from the states be sure to read each airline rules carefully, especially if you are travelling on one of the smaller aeroplanes. Overall, we didn't have any problems with this airport. I hope more people will write positive reviews so that the true percentages are shown, rather than just all negative.

✅ Trip Verified | The airport was the usual disorderly and unclean shambles, with only one passport desk ‘capable’ of checking under 12’s passports out of the 20 or so desks open. As always, this caused both unnecessary and unpleasant delays for everyone arriving. The airport is an embarrassment to Scotland, both inside and outside with very poor signage, almost temporary build quality in various sections. It is incapable of dealing with the volume of traffic going through it which is simply driven by financial greed of the owners and lacks any quality investment. All facilities and services are overpriced and the general staffing quality is poor, with the security section being the worst I’ve ever encountered anywhere.

✅ Trip Verified | Going through security I was asked to take off my shoes. I explained that I have a severe back problem, so couldn’t bend to pick them up. The girl didn’t help but told me there was a seat - which makes no difference in bending. Luckily another passenger heard me and came to my aid. On the other side I asked for long shoehorn and somewhere to lean. The guy asked me how I put my shoes in this morning, I replied “I had help”! This demonstrates a complete lack of awareness on their part. Not all “disabilities” are immediately visible. As a senior citizen I deserved more respect. Awareness training required.
