"security check was completely overwhelmed"

Not Verified | Arrived at Airport just before 6am for a 7.15 flight to Eindhoven - had checked in online and generally an hour is more than enough. However, there were seemingly about a thousand people trying to squeeze through 10 or 11 gates and the security check was completely overwhelmed. I watched as customers tried in vain to scan their boarding pass at the gate only to have it rejected - there were no staff to help them out or speed up the process - they were just ignored. Random people were using the 'Special Assistance/Family Gate' and the lady sitting there refused their passes because "The scanner is not working" - other people were refused at this entrance. I still thought I would make my flight in plenty of time and proceeded to queue - slowly - for the security check. I passed through here pretty quickly so wasn't too worried, I got through at about 6.45 (which is the time Ryanair said the gate closed - I foolishly assumed they would give a few minutes' grace due to the ridiculous queue previously.) I got to my gate at about 6.55, some 20 minutes before the flight was due to leave - I could see the plane with the stairs still up against the doors - and they refused to let me board my flight, saying the gate was closed. They said 'the paperwork was done' and I'd been "off boarded". I asked to see the paperwork and they refused. I have had to spend over €200 to rebook, changed all my accommodation/travel plans and have a full day in Edinburgh to kill - it's not the cheapest city in the world. Very very disappointed at the lack of Customer Assistance/efficiency and lack of understanding from the Ryanair staff which is not really the airport's fault.

"airport an absolute embarrassment"

Trip Verified | This airport is an absolute embarrassment. In this day and age to spend over an hour waiting to go through security (an hour is actually making good time in Edinburgh airport) people missing flights due to the least organized airport I have ever experienced. Absolute joke and I will never come back to Edinburgh to experience this again. First world country with a less than third world airport.

"infrastructure is horrendous"

Not Verified | The infrastructure at Edinburgh Airport is horrendous. It takes 20-30 mins to get a stairs/tunnel connected to get off the plane. Then you go on a bus, have to wait another 10 mins then have passport control to cue for. We’ve been on the ground over 40 mins & I’v only just got to the cue for passport control due to the delays getting off the plane. Disgraceful!

"this airport is embarrassing"

Not Verified | I visit many airports in a month - I live in Edinburgh and this airport is embarrassing. Queues - no management control - staff making procedures up/ad hoc. Glasgow wins - swallow that Edinburgh!

"Massive queue for security"

Trip Verified | The arrivals process at 12 midnight was a shambles. Massive queue for security and baggage took half an hour to start to arrive. Time from plane to airport parking was 1.5 hours which is totally unacceptable. Also the impression on arriving tourists is miserable. Gone is all the 'Welcome to Scotland' branding and friendly welcome, replaced by a grim 'UK and Northern Ireland Border' message with associated branding. The only clue I was in Scotland was an IRN BRU vending machine in the baggage hall. Edinburgh airport is participating in the re-branding of Scotland as just a region of UK and it just isn't good enough. In summary it felt like arriving in an unwelcoming grim vision of post a Brexit UK rather than Scotland.

"Worst airport, disorganised, unhelpful"

Trip Verified | I have flown many times and Edinburgh airport by far is the worst I’ve ever experienced! My friend and I were meant to depart yesterday 28th May to Krakow to celebrate her birthday today. Instead we stood in a queue for security for an hour and 20 mins, when I got to the belt with my suitcase and asked how much longer, staff attitude was stinking, we arrived at the gate and missed our flight. Back and forward to the swissport desk to ask about alternative flights, up to security to speak to a manager who was not interested in helping, they only took into consideration when we scanned our boarding pass at the barrier not how long we had waited beforehand (the queue was away back to the takeaway shop). 3 desks on with thousands waiting, squished like sardines, they did put a 4th desk on but not really good enough considering the thousands waiting. Eventually had to pay £100 each to Ryanair to switch to a Warsaw flight and then £32 for taxi from Warsaw airport to centre, money for another hotel, now up and away on a train to krakow great way to spend a birthday morning (not!) at more expense for the train. Worst airport, disorganised, unhelpful and 2 members of staff at security extremely snide and rude. Will be taking this further.

"Security overwhelmed"

Trip Verified | Security overwhelmed, over 1 and a half hours through security missed my flight, alerted two members of staff at security about my flight times one looked right at me ignored me and walked off and the other actually laughed at me, had to pay £150 for another flight only for this to be delayed by 2hrs still sat in this nightmare as I write this.

"this airport shames me"

Not Verified | This airport is the gateway to the country i was born in and am very proud off. This is why this airport shames me and Scotland. It is one of the worst in europe. Does anyone who runs this place ever fly in to Edinburgh and have to go through passport control.? If they did they and had any sense of pride they would cringe with shame at the queues and toytown look of the place... it looks like cattle market, nearly as clean... it is pathetic. One thing they are good at is self promotion and catching headlines... as we say in Scotland you cant gold plate a Poo. I dont even want to talk about security, that is soul crushing. Clearly those running this circus have a different agenda from the traveller. Its time they moved on and Edinburgh Airport truly became something we could be proud off.

Not Verified | The rudest, worst security anywhere. Young security staff who think they are entitled to speak to you in a disgusting manner. Not the first time I have received awful treatment. We are customers not terrorists. Security area was filthy with discarded cups and bottles. This airport is an embarrassment to Scotland.

"Security was overwhelmed"

Trip Verified | My wife and I are an elderly couple (one with Parkinson's) and our first problems arose on departure for Southampton on 19 March. We arrived 50 mins before the flight departure. Security was overwhelmed and when we were cleared, the gate, which was a 10 minute walk away, was closing. The bus had gone early and we missed our flight. We were offered a flight on to Belfast and Heathrow, while our car was at Eastleigh. We were eventually squeezed onto a flight the following day and we allowed 2 hours to get to the aircraft. We made it with 10 minutes to spare. The delay was costly because of hotel fees and extended car parking charges. In April my wife came back to Edinburgh to see her new grandchild and was booked in for assistance. On her arrival she waited on the empty aircraft for help while the cleaners did their work and new passengers were arriving. When she was eventually taken off the aircraft, she was abandoned at a lift because the carer was not qualified to use the lift. It took one and a half hours in a wheelchair to reach her waiting son. I have been so angry and wanted redress but it led me to conclude it would be a waste of time because there was so much dissatisfaction. Then I found out that the present owners, Global Investment Partners, a US company, are looking to sell the airport at over double their original investment. They have already got out of their investment in Gatwick. One's thoughts dwell on Mr Trump's policies and Brexit and I realise any stress on my disabled wife is of little consequence when I consider the money and politics involved. I am not without appropriate knowledge having thirty years experience as a pilot and having ran a number of the largest projects for NATS. I did send a letter to higher management after the first incident but no reply. I am considering other actions that I might take.
