BKK to FRA C class, aisle seat 26B. Beautiful check-in facilities in Bangkok with excellent service,
good food and outstanding wines, miserable in-flight entertainment on old 747 with old seats but
service attentive and extremely friendly.

BKK-MAD. Old seats, quite uncomfortable, the footrest doesn't rise enough, average seat recline in
this type of seat. IFE was enough, but quality of screen was bad. The main deck cabin was roomy. The
service was, for the first time in a Thai flight, bad. FA served the dinner and breakfast very quick,
it seems that she want to go to sleep, and with a lack of interest. The purser sat on the seat in
front of me and he spent the entire flight there.

Phuket via Bangkok-Hong Kong. B737 used to BKK tired and not much legroom. The food was cold but was
surprisingly good. The flight to Hong Kong was a lot better. The meals were hot and there was very
wide legroom. There is a very big difference between these two plane trips.

First Class SYD-NRT return via BKK during August. Menzies Ground Services now doing TG check in at SYD
a great improvement, excellent boarding onto plane without chaos. Air NZ Business Class lounge being
used in SYD. At NRT, ANA First Class Lounge near Gate 45-47, Terminal 1, very much like an office no
Japanese paintings on walls all just paint, staff not friendly. At NRT, ANA check-in very good,
priority through immigration. TG cabin service very good all sectors, upgraded seating in First Class
excellent. Luggage received priority all sectors, expect at SYD on return.

25 August 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
Singapore-LHR Economy. Barely adequate. All flights on time, food was edible, and service levels
acceptable, but not outstanding. As others have pointed out, only having main screen movies on the 12
hour BKK-LHR flight makes a long journey extremely tedious. It's especially bad on the night flights,
where only 1 movie is shown. I'm guessing that Thai assumes that everyone will be sleeping -
unfortunately, though, not everyone can or wants to sleep during flights. For this reason, I won't fly
Thai longhaul again until they update the entertainment system on all their planes.

Economy London to Bangkok and would agree with most other postings that the service is fantastic and
the food good - plus plenty of leg room. Only downside was the lack of seatBACK tv's, and travelling
with 3 kids made this difficult. this is the only factor that would stop me using Thai airways in the
future. They should invest in newer planes.

Beijing to Auckland return in Royal Silk Class and usual high standard of service/product. Early
morning departure out of Beijing on an old A300-600 not too problematic for a relatively short flight
(which I hear could soon be upgraded to an A330-300), 5 hours at BKK at Royal Silk Lounge enabled a
shower and much needed email clearing, before proceeding to the Spa for neck & shoulder massage.
A340-600 to Auckland fantastic & comfortable. Food quality much improved, as well as wine selections.
Angled lie-flat seats still a mission to master, but I still managed to get 7 hours sleep. Cabin
cleanliness top notch. Service top notch. AVOD movie selections quite old and limited!
Return flight started off with Air New Zealand's Koru Lounge at Auckland airport with fantastic wine
and cheese, followed by A340-600 flight, 2 hour layover at BKK, then onto Beijing on a similarly tired
A300-600 arriving Beijing at 6.40am. All in all, excellent & consistent value, service and total
experience.

Bangkok to Penang and back in Royal Silk (Business) Class. Bangkok check-in the special Business Class
area with fast track immigration and soon in the lounge which was excellent. The cabin was 2/3 full on
A-300-600. Hot towels and welcome drinks. Inflight service excellent and a friendly crew. My pre-
ordered meal was excellent. Check-in on the way back in Penang was quick. Thai uses the Malaysian
Airlines Lounge in Penang, which is large, and well equipped with friendly staff. Boarding easy and
the business class cabin was again 2/3 full on A300-600 with acceptable seat pitch. The breakfast
service was fast Overall an excellent experience with Thai and I look forward to fly them again.

BKK-DXB in Economy. Flight very full but check-in and boarding were first rate. Seats comfortable and
although this flight doesn't have seat back screens my position was ok for the main screen. Prebooked
vegetarian meal not on board but helpful FA sorted the problem and found me a vegetarian meal which
was very tasty. Regular drink runs are the norm on this flight so hardly have reason to press the call
button. FA's very attentive and helpful especially with the younger passengers. Washrooms refreshed
every hour or so also.

CPH-BKK-JKT economy roundtrip. I have been using Thai Airways for the
last 20 years. The food, especially out of Bangkok, needs a lot of
improvement. So do the old 747 planes, with an ancient entertainment
system. Compared with many other airlines flying between Eurpe and South
East Asia, Thai is lagging behind. On the positive side: The leg space
and the attentive staff.

Paris CDG to Bangkok. Individual checking counter for First class
passengers and a dedicate ground crew that escort us to Immigration and
the Lounge. The same person came to pick me in the lounge and escort me
up to my seat 1A. Excellent comfort. The food and the service onboard
were fantastic. I had a good 6 hours sleep. I am also enjoyed the audio
and Video on demand. On arrival in Bangkok, all the first class
passengers were picked up from the gate by TG ground crew and escort to
fast track immigration - it took less then 15 minutes.

Kathmandu to Bangkok. It had been very difficult to get seats on this
flight as economy from Kathmandu to Bangkok seems to be full for weeks
these days and I wonder if TG needs more capacity on this route now.
There is almost no competition other than Nepal Airlines which flies
thrice weekly and those flights are often cancelled or heavily delayed.
We got our seats due to efficiency of assistant manager in TG Kathmandu
office. It was an excellent flight and up to the usual Thai standard.
The plane was clean, crew fantastic, friendly and courteous. The meal
was excellent.

LHR-BKK-LHR economy. Can't fault the cabin crew who were attentive and
helpful, meals snacks and drinks a plenty but just how long will it take
before someone in a senior position realises that an 11 hour non stop
flight requires a better level of inflight entertainment. Seems to me
that if the veteran 747s are not replaced or upgraded its only a
question of time before passenger volumes degrade. Come on Thai, listen
to feedback and pull your socks up!

Flew Auckland-Bangkok-Saigon-Hanoi-Bangkok economy and Bangkok-Auckland
Business Class. Thai really have improved from the last time I flew with
them. The new A340-600 is a wonderful way to fly - so quiet and smooth.
Legroom is still great for Economy and I found the IFE really easy to
use with a good choice of movies etc. Food also good with good sized
portions. Nice to see that they still give a printed menu even in
Economy. Plenty of drink runs on the long flight also. Flights to and
from Vietnam use old A300-600 which really are showing their age.
Service still good and a full meal was served in both directions.
Business Class is fabulous and the service extremely attentive. Cabin
was full and yet nothing was too much trouble. One point, why is it with
a new large Airport in Bangkok with plenty of Airbridges do you find
yourself being bused to and from the aircraft. I guess you get a good
tour of the airport. If Thai could upgrade the rest of the fleet, they
really would rate as a 5 Star Airline.

Business Class MEL-BKK-HKG return. Thai's new 777 layout is very nice.
Regional is superb for a short-haul configuration - shell-type
flat/angle sleeper pods with audio-video on demand (AVOD) on nice size
screens, good selection of audio/video. Long-haul 777-200ER is very
nice - more seat pitch and really big video displays. A330-300 was clean
and not as fancy as the 777s but still nice and comfortable. I used to
think Thai had great service but tired old seats/interiors - on the
long-hauls this was reversed. A few issues: no overnight bag is pretty
cheap. Also IFE had a number of issues being reset, but that can happen
on every carrier. I flew Thai business for half the price of Qantas or
Cathay - great value. If you fly the 777 do not get row 11 (bulkhead) -
you may get a baby with you in the bassinette, much less leg room and
smaller video (a nice 10" monitor, versus the 15" wide screen in other
rows).

Phuket to Bangkok on 747. Although the flight time is short and the

Bangkok.

Shanghai-Bangkok-Shanghai route. 230GBP for an economy ticket. The
service was very good, cabin staff polite & customer focused,
traditional Thai welcome, hot towels for economy passengers, lots of
legroom for tall passengers. Excellent food, big portions, choice of 2
meals served with metal cutlery. Aircraft (A330) a little bit dated,
entertainment system poor, but on a 4.5hr flight it was not much of a
problem - on the way back to Shanghai it was an overnight service and
soon after take-off from Bangkok at 1am they only served quick snack &
drink and then nothing till early breakfast. Overall very nice
experience.

BKK-HYD in Royal Silk (Business) Class. Royal Silk Lounge is a quiet and
relaxing place, but a bit on the dark side, and very cold inside. The
flight was fine, though having just come off a couple of Cathay flights,
I was disappointed with the A300 used on this segment. The seats were
old style without PTVs and limited manual seat control adjustments, and
the pitch wasn't as good as Cathay or EVA - more like domestic US first
class. I was also disappointed with the food selection. The FAs were
impeccable, and the orchid handed out to you before arrival is a nice
touch. Baggage at HYD hopeless - our Priority tags were ignored as they
usually are in India, and they were coming out at the rate of about 1
bag every 30-45 seconds. This meant another 20 minute wait for bags
after waiting about 20 minutes at immigration. I was a little
disappointed with Thai, but would still use them again.

on Thai. IFE had good selection on Movies. Seat is very comfortable and
good for taking a sleep. Lounge at the new BKK Suvarnabhumi Airport was
excellent, good selection on food and drink as well Wifi Access. New
Airport looks very nice and clean. Flight to Taipei (A330) with a stop
in HKG, friendly and helpful staff on board and the meals on each flight
where tasty. Seat are standard regional business class seats with IFE
(loop movies). Comfort was ok for 4 hr flight times. Looking forward to

Economy roundtrip from Delhi-Bangkok-Denpasar on a mix of 777 and A330
aircraft. I was pleasantly surprised with Thai. They were on time, the
seats were comfortable, crew were friendly and on call mostly, and the
food was decent too. I did observe that the crew upgraded their smiles
on the Denpasar sector as this was mainly filled with European
passengers. In fact on the return flight from Denpasar, we had a case of
"air rage". A young French passenger sitting in Zone 1 of Y class got
very loud and started abusing passengers, and then got out his seat and
picked up a physical fight with an anonymous fellow French passenger.
There were screams all over. Blows were exchanged. It was very
frightening. The crew were in action about 3-4 minutes later and tried
to diffuse the situation. Apparently he was in an inebriated condition
on two glasses of wine. Anyway, one male crew member sat with him for
the rest of the flight and the situation became calm soon after. In
conclusion, Thai offers a decent product, and I would use them over
Malaysia for sure. If the IFE was better, I would prefer it over SQ as
you get frequent flier miles on most classes.

BKK-CNX-BKK-HKG. Domestic flights were economy and standard for a short
55 minute hop, though Thai are always good and a pleasant snack is
served - on the HKG flight I was in Royal first class and the experience
is total from the moment that you step out of your taxi till you leave
the airport at the other end - the checkin process and presence of a
constant escort can be a little overwhelming to those not used to it,
but it takes the stress away totally. I was also unprepared to be so
well waited on in the lounge at BKK - one could so easily get fat - you
are actively discouraged from walking, it is all bought to you!

a tip you can use the United Airlines First lounge if you have a Star

Frankfurt-Bangkok return in business. Newer (comfortable) seats on both
flights. Food was good, but white wines were boring as usual. Thai
stopped to give night kits on night flights. They modernize their fleet
and everybody can read, that one new business class seat costs thousands
of Euros, but they want to save one ore two Euros per business class pax
for a minimum night equipment! This is ridiculous. IFE was ok, but not
to compare with SIA. Royal silk lounge in Bangkok not worth mentioning,
no comparison to their Royal First Lounge, which really is excellent.
All flights on time and service friendly and good as usual. The staff on
board is something special, but the management of Thai could learn a
lot, how to satisfy customers.

First Class LHR-BKK-SYD : an excellent product. Seats comfortable (only
slight concern was the head rest which slightly curves your neck when
seat in flat position). Food fantastic, as were wines, and service. LHR-
BKK completely full but never once felt service wise I was in a busy
cabin. BKK-SYD only 2 pax and was simply spoiled. Amenity kits were
given and had everything you needed. AVOD good (not quite Emirates ICE
or Singapore Krisword but a distant cousin). On the ground in BKK Thai
took over as the best carrier I have used on the ground. First lounge is
excellent, with extremely attentive service and space. The only
negatives would be at times the air con was too cold and as pervious
poster mentioned they have all these great flat screen TVs which were
all off as only local channels available, no CNN, BBC, Sky etc. Pad Thai
and wonton soup very nice in the lounge. The use of the Spa is the best
part and as it was not busy was given a 1.5 hr treatment which included
foot massage, full body massage and jacuzzi. The amenity kits in the
bathroom and products are also the best I have ever had in any lounge.
The service and the Bangkok stopover experience took the Thai experince
to new levels and surpassed my outbound (which was also excellent)
Singapore First experience.

Economy Class SIN-BKK-FUK-BKK-SIN. SIN-BKK-SIN on A330 aircraft whereas BKK-FUK-BKK was on older A300 aircraft. Attentive service was provided
on all flights. What was really good on TG was the very generous leg
space, even in economy class. In flight, there was no PTV, as they only
had main screening. For each sector, hot meals were served and
passengers had options to choose from. Aircraft interior was fairly
well-maintained, though I would have preferred not to fly on the older
A300s; their lavatories, which were only in the rear, really showed the
age. Load wise, on SIN/BKK/SIN sector, both flights were full. On the
BKK/FUK/BKK sector, both flights had lots of empty seats and had a high
portion of Japanese among the passengers. On the Japan sectors, they
also had Japanese speaking crew. Overall, TG offered a value for money
product. Would look forward to travelling with them again.

ZRH-BKK-HKG-BKK-ZRH last week. All in economy, what they call Royal
Orchid Service. I was quite impressed of the new A340-600 on the ZRH-
BKK-ZRH leg. Good AVOD system and working well. Food okay, for economy
at least, and regularly served drinks although during night rest. BKK-
HKG on an older 747-400, showing its age and really a bit disappointing.
HKG-BKK then on the B777, regional configuration, quite new and well
kept. Crew was best on the BKK-HKG leg, making up for the older
airplane. Overall crew is certainly making a significant difference to
other carriers, mainly European ones. I was really impressed of the
excellent service in economy, something one doesn't experience these
days in Europe anymore. Still SQ and CX are ahead, but TG is coming
closer.

MEL-BBK 777-200ER Business Class. Excellence ground staff ex MEL used
Air New Zealand lounge very comfortable. On time departure per allocated
seats 14AB, new seats quite comfortable, extended pitch between seats
(easy to leave seat when fully extended) IFE huge choice large screen
excellence. Inflight service basic, quality of food basic (overcooked),
overall service basic, no amenities pack given. BKK-CDG change aircraft
747-400. New airport OK lounge OK nothing impressive once inside. New
seats older version though of above not as comfortable, leg pitch
shorter, hard to leave window seat when seat fully extended. Again no
amenities pack given on 12hr flight, meal service again basic, over
cooked food. Crew did not extend themselves not overly friendly. Again
IFE very good however smaller screen on this aircraft being 1st version
of new seating. Somewhat disappointing as airline promoting new product,
180° seats, etc fell short of my expectations.

MEL-BKK-Zurich and return Munich-BKK-MEL. All business class. We where
travelling with a child (16 months) so this was always going to be a
challenge. The lounge in Melbourne is Air NZ and excellent. 1st flight
777 excellent with quiet cabin, flat/angle seat and good food. No
amenity kit on any flight which was a bit disappointing. Transfer out of
BKK to the airport hotel quick with porter service and priority at
immigration. Check in at BKK fabulous with quiet and quick service in
private area with porter assistance. The Business lounge is far too busy
at BKK and we didn't stay long. You would think, given the numbers of
transit passengers that they would have built a bigger lounge! The 747
to Zurich was old but seats adequate and food good. Again the staff
could not have been more helpful. Munich to BKK a new A340 that was
quiet, spacious and a step above anything else we have flown. If I had a
choice I would swap to this aircraft very time. The food was excellent
and we all slept for 8 hours - including our child. The flight back to
Melbourne on 777 as good as initial flight. Overall 4 stars, with points
for staff, service, rapid transit in BKK and being fab with kids. Loss
of a point for no amenity kit and overcrowded lounge in BKK.

SYD-BKK-LHR-BKK-SYD. My wife and I went economy from SYD to BKK and were
quite impressed with the service and seat comfort - I am 6'2" (188cm)
tall and I had a good 4" or 100mm between my knees and the seat in front
(provided it was not reclined) Service was quick and very pleasant, food
was reasonable with a fair choice, but the IFE was terrible for this day
and age. No seat back screens so my wife was unable to see the aisle
screen or the centre bulkhead one without getting a permanent neck ache.
The aircraft was a 747-400 but although neat and clean, felt a bit
tired. From BKK to LHR we went business class (Royal Silk) so we enjoyed
the shower facility in the lounge at BKK, although I had to wait about
30 minutes for my shower. I gather there are only two or three showers
in the Silk lounge - at a new airport?? As this was the 'sleeping'
sector, we appreciated the (semi) reclining beds on another oldish
747-400 although they are not as comfortable as they could be. However,
having a screen for the IFE on the back of the capsule was better. As
usual, the FA's were very attentive and the food choice was good. Return
from LHR to BKK was by Royal Silk class and most of the comments from
the above paragraph apply. We left LHR at 12.30pm so did not make best
use of the beds but the ability to book in quicker and use the Star
Alliance lounge at LHR made up for that. Anything to get away from
Terminal 3 chaos! BKK to SYD was economy and as this should have been a
'keep awake' sector (we were due in at 20.00), we found the seats
restricting and again problems seeing the IFE. Having been to the UK 5
times since 2000 flying a mixture of economy and business (depending on
funds availability at the time), I would rate Thai economy superior to
Cathay (last trip) and Qantas (trip before that), Thai business better
than KLM but not as good as Lauda (flown in 2001).

BKK-CNX-BKK. Don’t I remember full meal service on these one-hour Thai
Airways International flights between Bangkok and Chiang Mai? For
economy passengers, those days are over. On both legs, in-flight food
service consisted of a cardboard box containing a container of yellow
fruit juice, white plastic cup for additional beverage service, and one
plastic-wrapped food item. Flying north, the repast was a single curry
puff - flying south, a small spice cake. “You have got to be kidding,”
said an older British tourist as he opened his purple box of treat. Flew
a 777-300 up in seat 32D, and a 777-200 down in seat 45C. On the 773,
one of the lavatories had been converted into a telephone booth. No in-
flight entertainment, other than the flight map. As usual on THAI, the
flight attendants were friendly and diligent, and the cabins were clean,
pleasant and purple.

First Class Bangkok to London Boeing 747-400. Ground service was
impeccable all the way through lounge, spa and security check. THAI has
dedicated check-in zones for First and Business class passengers. A
welcome drink given while my bags being taken care by a porter. The
check-in process was quick and efficient while I was seated in a "check-
in lounge". F/C passengers of THAI have access to the fast track
immigration lane which is just behind the check-in zone. I was then
escorted to the Royal First Class lounge in a buggy golf car. First
Class lounge was close to perfection. It has an a-la-carte dining room,
private family rooms, business centre, music rooms, a smoking rooms,
private rest rooms and showers. Unfortunately the TV only has reception
of local channels and some Chinese channels. I do not understand why
someone would invest in a $5000 TV and not have a $30 a month cable
subscription. I chose the "pre-flight dining" option in the lounge,
similar to BA's concept but slightly less formal. You simply visit the
"food room" where it shows several hot and cold dishes and you point the
one(s) you want and the staff will prepare it for you. The shower room
in the lounge was great, I was given a very nice L'Occitane amenity kit.
I was invited to use the Royal Orchid Spa. First Class passengers may
choose to have a full treatment programme which is a full-body oil
massage. The spa suite was comparable to top spas of the world and has a
jacuzzi hot tub, large rest room and beautifully decorated. The ambiance
was great and so was the massage. One hour later I was fully relaxed and
ready to board my flight (for a good night sleep). Service in the plane
was "good" but nothing exceptional. A welcome drink was given along with
an Hermes amenity kit and a set of cotton PJ. Sadly the caviar appetiser
is gone. The main course (book the cook) was pretty good. The new seat
was very comfortable in all positions and I managed to get 6-7 hours of
deep sleep. AVOD IFE was excellent with great movie choices. Breakfast
rather disappointing. Overall, I'd give THAI a four star - only because
the service on board was rather plain (no cabin crew presence at all
during the night + no personal attentions).

Food OK, chicken curry or some kind of beef was the choice (the beef was
better). And inflight sales had a wide variety of options. Suvarnabhumi
to Phuket was a typical 1.00h domestic flight, a few snacks, a short nap
can do it. Plane was old 747-400. Same with HKT-BKK except that the
plane was a newer A330-300. Suvarnabhumi-Ninoy Aquino was OK but the

The seats in the old 747-400 is not worth the money. It is high time for
THAI to buy some new planes if they like to continue to be a 4 star
airline. They have a long way to go reaching the 5 star airline. Where
have the orchids to the lady passengers gone? A positive happening was
that I this time could listen to the English announcement and understand
what they said! Usually I have had to listen to the Thai to get any idea
of what they are saying. The service of the crew was excellent as
always, at least for those of us who are used to the European airlines.

BKK-LHR-BKK First class. Flight to LHR was in older 747 however Thai
still stuck to seat allocations so no one next to me. The seats are just
OK but once you are used to AVOD, 12 hours is a long time with just loop
run movies, service however was up to its usual high standard and food
excellent. Returning from LHR it was back to the new 747 and impeccable
service from the staff. I guess Thai are cutting back as I have not seen
caviar in first now for about 3 months. Why are they still using
plastic cutlery and food from LHR is not a patch on that from BKK.

LHR-BKK-LHR Economy. I last flew with Thai several times, 6 years ago,
on this route, and last week I found they're still using the same tired
747s without having refurbished the interiors. Good legroom, and very
good choice of quality drinks, but the service and food was not as good
as I remembered it to be, the breakfast being inedible both ways. As has
been said, no IFE except for one large screen in the far distance, but
since my headphones didn't work anyway I resigned myself to a long and
boring flight. Very punctual, but coming back the longest ever flight
BKK-LHR being 13 hours mainly due to being stacked into LHR. Thai must
not rest on their laurels as their deservedly good reputation will not
be enough to assure my rebooking on these very tired aircraft.

MUC-BKK-MUC. First leg on new Airbus in business Class, return on older 747 in First class. Both trips close
to perfect. The new business class is very comfortable. FAs were very friendly and attentive.
Food was good. The only point of critique is the wine choice. Neither of the wines tasted good for
me. But that´s a minor point. For the trip back I was warned through reading this forum here that
Thai uses the old business class seats on their 747s. So I took my Star Alliance upgrade voucher
into First class. Good choice, as these seats were very comfy. I enjoyed every minute on board.
First class service was outstanding. I certainly will use Thai again.

ICN-BKK-ICN, Business Class both ways. On time both flights. Seats on
the A330 are not the greatest which is more of a problem on the night
flights. Cabin service is always attentive and to a high standard,
though the food choices are average at best. IFE not working properly on
some seats and not exactly convenient to have to move around to watch a
movie. Thai Business Lounge in Suvarnabhumi is still poor in comparison
to those Thai had in Don Muang, though the quiet rest areas and wireless
internet access are welcome improvements.

LHR-BKK & BKK-AUK Business (Royal Silk). Both flights comfortable, with
attentive FAs and good IFE. The fully reclining business class seats are
reasonable, but still become a little uncomfortable after 10 hours plus.
I found the meals to be dull and uninspiring, but the only real
disappointment was the Suvanabhumi business lounge - only two showers
and both times I've used them there have been plumbing problems! This
time the water was tepid and the sink was out of use. A departures board
would be greatly appreciated and otherwise the food and drink were at
best functional and there is not much of interest to pass the time.
Overall though, good value for money.

LHR- BKK-LHR (Economy class) Very good flights, as cabin crew member for
another airline, I thought the service was exceptionally good, and the
crew presence in the cabin consistent with plenty of fluids throughout
the flight. Food good apart from the breakfast which was inedible (both
options). Legroom very good and also the seat recline, which made a big
difference. My husband is 6'ft4" and he thought it was comfortable
enough. My only complaint is the same as everyone else on here, and
that was the IFE. With no seatback TV's and me being only 5ft3" I could
not seen the screen further up the cabin over the top of the seat and
head in front of me. Not so much of an issue on the outbound night time
sector. But inbound on a day flight, would have been nice to watch a
film to relieve the boredom on such a long flight. However overall I
thought the service and crew in the economy section were excellent, and
the only reason I give this review a 4 star rating is down to the IFE.

LHR-BKK-LHR, economy class. Route is operated by veteran 747 aircraft
that are showing their age. Despite this, seating was generally
comfortable with a generous 34" pitch. Meal service is good by economy
standards, with tasty meals and reasonable sized portions. On the return
leg, which was a daytime flight, sandwiches were also distributed
between the two main meals. A good range of decent quality drinks
available on demand. Cabin crew were always visible, courteous and
efficient. So far, so good. The one black mark is the lack of any modern
seat back IFE systems in the economy class cabin. Films were shown, in
traditional aircraft style, on screens suspended in the aisles. One film
shown on the outward leg to BKK and 3 on the return leg to LHR, none of
which I had ever heard of. Even if I'd been interested, there were no
clues in the flight magazine as to what films would be shown on which
flights. With 12 hours to kill, I value a seatback screen with a decent
selection of films on demand, and this is something I will have to
consider in future. (NB. Presumably Thai are planning to phase out the
B747's, and are consequently reluctant to invest in new IFE systems on
these aircraft. I understand that the more modern long haul Airbus fleet
operated by Thai do have up to date seatback video.)

FRA-BKK and BKK-MUC in Economy. Both legs on 747, quite old and worn.
Flights on time, great room for legs but old seats (mine reclined
without even pushing the button, which was annoying). No personal TV. On
the other side, great food, wide choice of drinks including fine cognac
and charming, kind and responding crew made both flights nice and
pleasant experience. They made us feel we are in Thailand even before we
took off from FRA. Last but not least, at 550 EUR return the price could
not be better. To sum up, if only Thai Airways got rid of those old
747s, there would be no better way to fly to the Kingdom of Smiles

BKK-MXP in Royal Silk: Arriving to Suvarnabhumi airport was fast, we
dropped off at entrance 1 and were escorted to Royal Silk Check-in area
by a bellboy - although normally a service reserved to Royal First
passengers! No queue and 5 min after were in the lounge: very big, good
selection of food/drinks. We were also invited to enter in the Royal
Orchid Spa and have a massage, a good touch for premium passengers! Gate
was C2, near to lounge, priority boarding and then a bad surprise: our
flat seats were out of order, a total of 5 seats didn't work at all !
The crew apologized with us, and promised to do their best in adjusting
the seat "manually". After take-off meal was served, another bad
surprise : meal was terrible: some smoked fish (disgusting) and beef
tenderloin (hard and overcooked), it was the first time that I have a
bad meal with TG! However 3 FAs managed to recline my seat and finally
they succeeded! So I could sleep for 9 hours, the footrest isn't
comfortable: you have to push it with feet to retain it in the right
position. I didn't eat anything for breakfast. we landed on time but,
due to Italy disorganization, we were parked on a remote stand, where
only 3 busses were waiting for us. Finally after 45 min our PRIORITY
labelled bags came out. This flight was the worst flight on Thai I ever
had, I didn't fly with Thai for a while, but it was better!

LHR-BKK-LHR First Class. Our experience just goes to show that it is the
cabin crew that can really make the difference. Outbound was absolutely
faultless. With the considerable distraction of a member of the Thai
Royal family in the cabin, one might have expected the ordinary
passenger to feel a little neglected - but not a bit of it. Despite the
extra demands, the crew were delightful, constantly attentive to your
every need throughout the entire flight. The new First Class seats are
really comfortable both as fully flat beds and any other relaxing
position you care to choose. Meals and VOD system were also excellent.
Ground staff at BKK were superb in meeting the flight and whisking the
First Class passengers straight through all the arrivals formalities to
the sumptuous Lounge with Spa. Unfortunately, the return was a different
story. Ground staff were again equally attentive but once airborne, the
service could not have been more different. The dinner service was surly
and provided with indecent haste; the pre-ordered meals inedible and
then the crew simply vanished for the next eight hours. My wife rarely
manages sleep on long haul flights and was awake for the duration. Not
once was she offered anything until the pre-arrival breakfast was thrown
at us. Thereafter the crew again vanished leaving empty cups, water
bottles, TV screens up, pillows etc strewn around the cabin, to end up
on the floor upon landing. This is not just bad service, but serious
safety lapses. We have never been disappointed with Thai service
previously, but this was very poor.

FRA-BKK in Economy with connecting domestic flight to UTH. Aircraft was
an ancient 744 with worn interior. Armrests partially broken, bent and
loose tables (meal tables slid off and had to be fixed manually by the
passenger), inflight entertainment reduced to 3 boring drama movies on
the return leg displayed on a lonely screen every 10 rows or so.
Inattentive and obviously stressed cabin crew didn't respond to the
request of many passengers to turn down the air condition and reduce the
coldness and draught in the cabin somewhat as there was no way to adjust
air flow from the seat. Rather offered another blanket. Inflight
information from the cockpit non-existent, just a short announcement of
the pilots on start and landing. In short - cattle class at its finest
and a total disgrace. Worst problems were still to come however -
resulting from TGs decision to move domestic flights back to the old
airport at Don Muang. Had to wait about 2 hours for a (TG) shuttle bus,
people fought their way to the door and try to get their luggage on the
bus themselves - at about 38 degrees Celsius and 90 percent humidity.
Large suitcases had to be lifted into the cabin as the cargo bay of the
bus is way too small for even half of the passengers' stuff. The ride to
DMK is another 1.5 - 2 hours!

JFK-BKK Business Class (Royal Silk) An excellent product in every way --
good IFE, good food, attentive service etc. The only problem: the
seat, when pushed back fully leaves a gap between the upper and lower
ends. This can be uncomfortable on a 16 hour trip such as this one. The
seat is much better than the "cattle cars" the previous post refers to
but nowhere as good as Singapore , Cathay, Virgin or BA - all potential
competitors for the USA-SE Asia traffic. The new Spa service in Bangkok
Lounge for Thai C class passengers is really good.

JFK-BKK Flew business class using United/Star Alliance points to upgrade. Great flight overall- the
seats were comfortable with excellent space and recline, the food was very good, top shelf liquors,
and very attractive cabin interior. This was the best international flight I have ever taken and
will go this away again. The layout and ambience of this A345 was 1st class, which stood in marked
contrast to the glorified cattle cars that Thai operates on its domestic routes.

LHR-BKK. Y-class. Flights punctual and 34" seat pitch really makes a
huge difference. 747-400's were looking a bit dated with no IFE but the
outstanding service more than made up for that. A selection of drinks on
trays were frequently brought round throughout the flight and there was
even Cognac to finish the meal with! Flight attendants helpful and
smiling throughout. This is compared to a recent flight on BA which was
delayed both ways and poor in flight service. If the IFE was improved
then this airline would be a match for the best.

JFK to Bangkok Suvaranhumbi Airport in Premium Economy. I had booked
normal economy, but asked for my seat to be changed since my original
one was in the middle of an aisle. Ground crew charming and upgraded me
to Premium Economy. Service exceptional, crew charming, attentive, and
in any other words perfect. Food delectable, and the comfort and
atmosphere was so incredibly relaxing and mystifying, that the 17 hour
flight seemed less long than it was. Arrival relatively good.
Suvaranhumbi airport is jaw-dropping but lacking a little convenience.
However ground crew helped tremendously and I loved it. I will most
certainly fly again.
