London to Jo'burg via Cairo return. I would not recommend Egyptair due to its lack of
maintenance, all the aircraft are living in the 80's and very worn. On every flight my seat
was broken and the entertainment is still from box screens on the ceiling and must be playing
from VHS, as the quality is poor. The flight was fine and got me there and back safely but it
is a little worrying how poor the inside of the aircraft is - this makes you think that the
safety is not up to scratch either. My flights going out the crew were very rude, I swapped a
seat to make convenience for a couple and the crew attendants nearly had a fit. Flights back
weren't rude but okay so not going to slate them. The good things were the food and a live
video of take-off from the plane which was pretty cool, but that's it. The flights are cheap
but pay the extra £50 or more elsewhere for comfort and safety.

CAI-KUL. Left 1 hour late with no explanation at 1:15 am. Plane old and a little funky but not
too bad. Food and service good, liked the toiletries kit. No personal TV and earphones didn't
work for overhead tvs.

Egyptair is the worst airline I ever flew with. On our way from Frankfurt to Nairobi our
connection flight to Cairo was delayed 3 hours. On the plane from Cairo to Nairobi there
wasn't enough room for our handbag so they took it away and put it down with the rest of the
luggage, and they gave us one tag each, even though they had taken two handbags from us (the
tag numbers did not match the handbag). One of our handbags was left in Cairo, and they were
never able to find it. They also lost our check-in luggage which we got back two days and a
lot of fighting later. On the way back to Frankfurt, the flight from Nairobi was 4 hours late,
making us miss our connection flight from Cairo to Frankfurt. The manager in Nairobi promised
we would all be in Frankfurt within the day, but when we came to Cairo we learned that there
were no more planes going to Europe that day. So they took our passports and put us in a hotel
where they said that everything was for free. When we got to the hotel, they didn’t even give
us free water. We had to fight to get free water, and the hotel people wanted to put strangers
in double rooms, men and women of different religions in the same roo). The next day, when the
over 100 customer who lost their connections flight, went back to the airport in Cairo, of
course, one of the passports was lost, and it was only found 10 minutes before the plane left.
I would rather walk than fly with Egyptair again. The staff (managers at the airport, flight
attendants etc) was constantly against us, I cannot even count all the lies they served us
just to make us shut up.

BKK-CAI-FRA in Economy. BKK-CAI was taking off on time and arrived even 30 minutes ahead of
schedule - that is why I rate the trip satisfaction at 1 point and not at 0. All the rest - a
nightmare. Very old plane - the seats were the most worn out and uncomfortable that I have
ever had in an airplane, recline did not work, armrests broken. CAI-FRA flight was slightly
newer, but still in bad shape and not clean, stains on seat, trash not removed. On both
flights IFE was totally inappropriate, some monitors, partially with bad quality, mostly
commercials running. But the most unpleasant experience was the unfriendly and rude crew -
and any individual request was regarded like an insult and neglected. Absolutely unacceptable.
For the price I have much better options on that routing - so I gave them a try as Star
Alliance member - but being a Star Alliance member doesn't automatically make a good airline,
not even a mediocre one.

GVA-CAI-BKK vv. GVA-CAI leg was better than CAI-BKK because their B737 come with comfortable
biz class seats (2-2) with more legroom than the ancient biz class on the B777 to Bangkok.
Food, service etc below Star Alliance standards, but still okay. Seats on the 777
uncomfortable - little legrooms and little recline) but acceptable. A menu card was
distributed on CAI-BKK, but not on the BKK-CAI . Flight attendants quite friendly, but on the
long-haul they are not present after dinner service. several First Class seats occupied by
captain and co-pilots.

My return leg from Munich to Cairo (stop over for 2 days) then off to Bangkok was less merry
than my first impression. Egyptair offers no seat allocation even though I have been confirmed
by the agent when buying the ticket that she gave me window seats through all my flights and
consequently conformed by a Lufthansa agent checking me in at Munich. The flight to Cairo with
a 737-800 and I would rate it as a nice flight - crew was more "alive" and more drink rounds
than before. After stopover in Cairo, I checked in at CAI airport for my last leg to Bangkok.
The flight was not shown in any of the monitors in the airport and just found by chance
Bangkok at one of the check in counters that checks a certain number of flights so Bangkok
became Asmara then Guanghzhou then Khartoum, etc. Was happy to see self check in kiosks and
trotted over - I gather this is a system for people only for carry ons? There were there "drop
off" counters around but were empty and no one working on them. The flight was delayed 2 hours
but no mention at check in. The agent refused to give me a window seat rudely mentioning that
"who promised you that" attitude. Seeing that I am not budging he and in a very annoyed
manner... "But you will have to sit at the back of the plane". Only monitors in the airside
showed the delay and even if it was 2 hours, the gate was closed and since even a completely
new terminal, there is only a couple of seats here and there so all passengers sitting on the
floor waiting for the gate to open (opened only 15min before the flight). After passing to the
airbridge I was surprised that each person got a can of soda. The crew was ok this time but
the plane was dirty. Slept on the flight so not sure about the food. IFE is a joke - old
monitors hanging from the roof. Egyptair has to work hard to reach any acceptable levels to be
called a Star Alliance airline - a statement that they love to use these days everywhere to
enhance their image.

Never again. Booked our flight in August direct with Egyptair and heard nothing more from
them before we travelled in December. We were supposed to have 3 hours in Cairo but for some
reason had been issued us Boarding Passes for the following days flight. Took 4 hours of
shouting before they sorted out a hotel for us. Two days before our return trip we thought we
had better check our flight with Egyptair. Just as well, the flight had been re-scheduled so
we were due to travel 6 hours later than time given on the ticket and they said they could not
then get us on a flight on from Cairo as they were full for the next two days. After lots of
shouting they did sort us out with another flight but 24 hours later than expected and a lot
of expensive phone calls.

London to Jo'burg via Cairo. I travelled with two small children (which had the potential to
be a nightmare), and contrary to many reviewers, will happily fly with them again. The
flights were on time, transfers smooth, food decent and the staff could not have been more
friendly and helpful. The airline might be dry, but nobody had any problem with our bringing
alcohol on board. My only negative comment is that it would have been reassuring if the pilot
had announced that the gut-wrenching noise shortly after take-off was a lightening-strike,
rather than the tail fin dropping off.

I would give it a 1 star rating, maybe a 1.5 star. I flew Egyptair from Beijing to Cairo
(Business First) on Airbus and then a couple of weeks later from Cairo to JFK (Business). The
planes are old and service is mediocre, at best. I would rate my trip PEK to CAI as mediocre
while the CAI to JFK trip as awful. On the trip from CAI to JFK the seats were barely better
than Economy class and the recline was similar to US domestic first class (which is to say
about 45 degree angle with no leg support). The legroom was quite poor and insufficient to put
a laptop bag comfortably in front of you. The monitor quality is atrocious and the selections
run on a set time, which is quite different from most business/first class cabins where you
can choose the selections at any time. The cabin was also uncomfortably warm and nothing was
done about this, in spite of repeated requests by a number of us. The meal service even in
business class is offered only at set times and was pretty bad, even when compared to US
airlines. I was woken up from deep sleep for lunch, and when I waived the meal off was told
that I better eat now because this will be their last serving with 7 hours of flight time to
go. I thought the whole point of business class was to be able to have flexibility on when to
get meals. On the positive side, the ground staff in CAI was friendly and the lounge at the
Cairo airport is quite decent. Overall, a poorly run and mediocre airlines. I would definitely
not use it, if I could avoid it.
