Macau to Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu. It was such a terrible experience that we will definitely NEVER fly Air Asia again. 3 out of four of our flights were delayed, changed and / or cancelled. We basically spent 2 whole days waiting at airports, for just flying in and out from Macau to Malaysia, a trip that only takes about 5 hours. Staff were not helpful in explaining why the flights were delayed, or giving information of new arrangements (if there is any), not to mention if they could offer any help if we would have missed out connection. But No Surprise! Our connection was delayed as well. The flight from Macau to Kuala Lumpur is rather clean and fairly new. However, the domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu was in rather poor condition, it was rather old, and the seat in front of us was falling apart. And, there was gaffer tape taping on the wing. No matter what minor problems they were, as a passenger I don’t think I could put my mind at ease flying in a plane like that. I do not recommend anyone to fly with Air Asia unless you do not mind spending your precious time waiting at airports.

BKK-Kota Kinabalu return and KK-Kuching return on January 2007. Long check in but flights always on time (less than 20' delays). Good efficiency but cabin crew not so professional (always laughing). Food OK, cheap but items often unavailable.

Air Asia from KL to Kuching, and back again a few days later, in February this year. Plane was very clean indeed; FAs good; timing spot on -no delays. On the basis of these two flights I shall be using them again.

KUL-KCH-SBW. Most impressed with both value for money, cabin staff and the aircraft.

Langkawi to Kuala Lumpur. Being last on the plane we discovered why it was a melee to board the aircraft. We had just found out it was 'free seating' and you can sit where you want unlike any other airline we had flown with. Children running up and down the aisle all through the flight, standing on their seats when seatbelts should have been worn and to top it all, as soon as the aircraft hit the tarmac at Kuala Lumpur, almost everyone unfastened their seatbelts and it was a loud chorus of the clicking sound as over 100 passengers released their belts. This was absolute chaos. Cheaper flights and although flight was in total disarray with unruly passengers we would probably manage another short flight with Air Asia again.

JB-KL-JB, both dep and arrival on time, reached LCCT KLIA 20 mins early and on return, 15mins early. Overall, a present journey with it's new Airbus 320. I only paid RM125 with tax for the return tickets at this CNY period (book 6 mths advance), 100% value for money. Good job AA.

REP-KUL. Check-in was smooth, followed by a leisurely walk outside to the plane without any frantic rush. Secured a good seat in a half-empty plane. Friendly FAs. I can recommend the nasi lemak. Flight departed on time and arrived 15 minutes ahead of schedule. No long wait for luggage retrieval. I've been fortunate to only have had pleasant experiences with Air Asia.

15 February 2007

Air Asia from BKK to HKT. Arrived on other carrier early in day at BKK, but check in is limited to 2 hours before flight and so had to stay outside of security all day waiting for check-in - had no bags to check but no one would accomodate us. Flights board from a chaotic and grimy bus lounge where neither the PA systems nor the information screens were used for announcements. Flights were announced for boarding by yelling in Thai. Flight delayed for over two hours with not a single announcement made about approximate departure time. Left by bus to plane and was nearly knocked over by rush of people trying to get seats on plane since Air Asia uses free seating. Plane was very old with chipping paint on exterior and exposed wiring and uncovered light bulbs riddling the interior. FA's grumpy and robotic. The experience was cheap, but for such a short flight, Air Asia is exhausting.

13 February 2007

CGK-PDG and return. Decent seating and excellent service from FA's was marred by lengthy delay outbound and the sloppiest ground handling I have ever seen. I booked a flight on line with a departure time of 1545. Boarding pass stated time of 1540 departing from gate A7. All info boards in the terminal said the flight was timed at 1605 from gate A4. I dutifully went to A4 - where the info board indeed showed my flight number - but only discovered the boarding gate was really A7 after overhearing a radio conversation by an airport employee! Thank goodness I speak Indonesian. Boarding was delayed for no apparent reason, then there was an unholy scrum with passengers exchanging insults and pushing as they all tried to get through a single door. Guess what? We were then marched through interconnecting airside corridors all the way back round to gate A4 where the aircraft was parked after all. Once inside the plane there was a lengthy game of charades to match the people on board with the names on the manifest, culminating in a school register approach with passengers raising their hands as names were called. Terminal 1 at Jakarta has always been the poor relation as terminal 2 is now reserved for international flights and services by the flag carrier Garuda. As domestic air travel expands rapidly in this developing nation the existing facilities are simply unable to cope.

Why can't Air Asia improve its ontime performance? Their prices are great. Their planes and staff are okay. Their coverage and destinations are good. It is just really annoying that every time I fly with them there are always lengthy delays. Other airlines can manage to take off on time. I wish Air Asia could too

Air Asia review - by Lim Kah Yeuan

8 February 2007

Have flown multiple sector and several times with Air Asia before. The planes are clean and good. The main drawback that makes me not to travel by Air Asia is the rush to board the plane since there is no seat allocations, and the delays during peak season. I would prefer to travel by mainstream airlines then. The Low Cost Terminal in KLIA can be rename as cheap skate terminal which doesn't justify the high airport tax that we pay. I think those who had pleasant flights in the comments in this site is because they travel during off peak season. Therefore recommended to travel during off peak season.

Travelled with them to Krabi and Chiang Mai and back to BKK in January excellent service charming FA's if only Ryanair would follow the example of this budget airline in service standards then European travel would be vastly improved.

22 January 2007

Macau to KL. When boarding at Macau, our carry in bag (less than 7kg) was asked by the staffs for them to take care as claimed that it was too big (later we found it was not true, other passenger brought bigger and heavier bag allowed to board). We argued to carry as it contained breakable item but the staff in Macau ensured that everything will be fine. Even when we asked to take the memorable bowl only to carry in, it was not allowed by the staff and they informed us not to worry. When we arrived in KL, I was very disappointed that the bag was handled very badly and the beautiful memorable bowl was broken into pieces. The staff in Macau did not keep the promise and Air Asia recklessly handled the bag (even there was no effort to put a fragile sign tag on the bag). I sent a feedback to Air Asia and there is no response. It was very disappointing experience to travel with Air Asia.

Flew Air Asia from KUL to BKK. The low cost terminal is definitely true to its name. On the other side of the runway at KLIA and nothing more than a very big barn. Check in is a nightmare with lines running all over the place and long, so get there early. The departure lounge is slightly better with some shops to do duty free shopping, but the seating is poor and uncomfortable. My biggest grip is the lack of allocated seating, we were on a plane with a large Chinese tour group and they rushed the plane leaving other family groups having to split up, not always a good thing if you have young children. Flight itself was good, plane clean and nice leather seats. Food to purchase was limited in choice but fresh. Given the price it wasn't too bad but Air Asia need to do something about their terminal facilities.

KUL-BKK-HAN-KUL. As opposed to my previous posting, nearly all my flights departed on time with the only exception of the HAN-KUL leg - delayed by 35 mins. Flights were uneventful and pleasent. Full flights on all legs. Air Asia should take note that their Nasi Lemak meal (Inbound & Outbound KUL) is very popular with their passengers. Therefore Air Asia should have more of this particular meal on their flights due to the fact that most of the time, half of the passengers are told that the Nasi Lemak is sold out and that the rest of the passengers to opt for sandwiches or instant noodles. This happend on my return flight from Hanoi and previously from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur. Being a no-frills airline and counting every penny, having more Nasi Lemaks available on all flights will definitely somewhat help with the company's earnings. All-in-all, a good airline and a good crew. Will fly again with them!

19 January 2007

CGK-KUL-BKK-KUL-CGK flight was served mixture of Indonesia Air Asia and Malaysia Air Asia on B733 and Airbus 320. All flight was ok and on time. Since Air Asia only offer "point to point" flight, therefore I have to check in on every sector, however check in is efficient, although experienced long queue on my KUL - CGK sectors in LCCT Airport, KL. Freindly and efficient FA on all sectors and really helps me a lot since I am flying with two infants.

12 January 2007

CGK-KUL-CGK. Outbound flight was scheduled to depart at 2020 - upon check-in at 1840, we were informed that the flight would be "slightly delayed" (although nothing on the departure boards stated any delay) and we should therefore await announcements. Went to departure gate at 2100; a handwritten piece of A4 paper (in yellow highlighter pen!) stated that gate had been changed. Proceeded to new gate : ground staff informed me that departure was now 'rescheduled' to 2130 (although departure boards still stated 2020) and to await announcements. Returned to gate at 2130 (still no announcement) and staff assured us that flight would take off 'on time' (!?!!) - we eventually did so just before 2200, but only after a very long bus journey across the tarmac to the remotely parked aircraft. Usual mad scramble to board; uneventful flight finally arrived in KLIA just before 0100, meaning it was after 0200 before I arrived home! Fortunately the return flight at 0700 was on time. Highlight of the trip was the new A320 (both ways) and the friendly FAs. Check-in staff at the KLIA LCCT informed me that AirAsia flights later in the day are often subject to delays (domino effect, no doubt). They really need to address this problem before taking their business model long-haul with the recently-announced AirAsiaX flights to India/China/UK.

4 December 2006

We took the Clark - KL v.v. and Bangkok - KL route. The boarding process is quite inefficient if not chaotic. It is a mad rush toward the plane at Clark. Going through the aisle with a backpack was horrible. The food was simple but good enough but good thing we didn't have to sit on the toilet bowl. As for the Bangkok - KL flight we were crammed like sardines into an airport bus with all our hand carry luggage which was far from comfortable but the flight was quick and uneventful. On our way back to Clark we had 2 impolite FAs who frown more often than smile. Glad that I didn't have to deal with them. I hope they use newer planes. Otherwise the price makes it a very good trip indeed.

17 November 2006

KUL/PEN I don't worry about having to pay for food on low-cost airlines. My only concern is that they keep up safety standards. I was impressed when the flight attendant told the people across the aisle from us in the over-wing emergency exit that they couldn't have their bags on the floor. I was shocked when he allowed them to hang the bags over the seat pocket and the others sitting on the spare seat between them! PEN/KUL - 2 seconds after we landed (we were still on the runway!), one of the two flight attendants from the rear of the plane came flying up the aisle with her wheelie bag in tow. I would think she should remain at her door until we reached the terminal. Passengers can't block the aisles with their bags, doesn't this safety standard apply to crew??

15 November 2006

KL-BKK trip was delayed for 4.5 hrs. No reasons for the delay given however overheard the staff saying that the aircraft intended for the KUL-BKK flight was used for a flight to Medan, Indonesia because of technical issues with the other aircraft. They was a group of Pakistanis who missed their connecting flight to Islamabad because of the delay. Good value for money but with lack of no-frills competition in the region (Air Asia co-owns the Indonesian Air Asiaand Thai Air Asia and the only other competitor Tiger Airways - owned by Singapore Airlines), prices are steadily increasing.

7 November 2006

BKK-HKT-BKK on Thai Air Asia. First trip delayed for 2 hours and the second trip delayed for 4.5 hours. Luckily I have reserved 6 hours for the onward connecting flight BKK-HKG. The price is very good so I do not expect too much. The ground service and FA are fine. A lunch coupon is given for the 4.5 hours delay. The Airbus is not new but it is OK. Just remind other passengers to allow plenty of time for connecting flight.

12 October 2006

CGK-DPS-CGK earlier this month on Indonesia Air Asia. Flights both departed on time; aircraft were clean if a bit tired (737-300); check-in staff friendly and efficient; FAs great! The only gripe I'd have would be the 20-minute bus ride at CGK on the outward leg - we'd checked in at the domestic terminal and had to be bussed over to a gate at the international terminal, where the aircraft was parked.

2 October 2006

Macau-BKK, BKK-PEN, PEN-KUL, KUL-BKK, BKK-Macau. Efficient ground staff, nice CA. Seats are black leather and comfortable. A 15-60 mins delay often occurs. Overall, I didn't regret to fly with air Asia not only because of their low price (in fact, I have booked the ticket in advance of 8 months and their anniversary campaign was being held so we got several free tickets!), but that the price meets the service. All I didn't appreciate is that they do not have seat assignment. Especially when boarding in Macau, the mainland Chinese people rushed to the boarding stair once the door of the connecting bus opened. The mainlanders seemed hate to queue in anywhere, and hundred people rushing to a narrow stair together could cause an accident. Air Asia should have thought about this safety problem.

1 July 2006

6 flights on Air Asia (Bangkok/Penang and Bangkok/Chiang Mai) resulted in 4 delays of between 1 and 12 hours. What is most worrying is that 3 were not even operation delays - they were off-peak cancellations. Clearly Air Asia has been having trouble filling some off-peak services and so they cancel seemingly at will. Yes, the fares are great, the staff are warm and friendly, the seats comfortable - but don't bank on making international connections from Air Asia flights unless you allow loads of time.

1 June 2006

Have done a series of flights with Air Asia recently. KL – Siam Reap and Kuching – KL – Bangkok. Great fares, paid about a 1/3 of full service airlines. ALL flights on time, even the last flight from BKK. I think Air Asia has to address this public perception that because they are budget, they are therefore not on time. Staff are great, very friendly and efficient. Snacks are good and price is ok. Try the Nasi Lemak.

KL to Siam Reap. - Tickets very cheap, KLIA LCCT seems efficient. FAs were friendly and attentive. All in all, efficient, both outward and return was right on time.

6 May 2006

Manila, Clark - KLIA. Check-in staff are strict with carry on baggage and luggage because it only allows 15kgs of luggage and carry on baggage of total of 7kgs. Friendly staff. Flight is full, boarding has been done w/o clear announcement. Air Asia offers Free seating. On this sector, Air Asia uses an Old Boeing 737-300. Seating does not feel comfortable. Cabin Staff nice and friendly. Do announcement both in Malay and English. Food needs to be purchased, however my choice of Nasi Goreng is not available. Purchase a cup cake and a soda. Disembark the aircraft and had a short walk to the new LCC Terminal that houses Air Asia domestic and international flights. I hope Air Asia will find solutions with their problems to aim 100% reliability for on-time schedules as this will affect their business. I will still use Air Asia because of their rates and Friendly staff.

BKK-CNX-BKK in early March. Flights on time, or even a few minutes early. More use of Skybridge rather than bussing to aircraft as in the past. Excellent value at Bht1000 return, including taxes, fuel surcharges etc.

18 March 2006

KUL-LGK, PEN-KUL and KUL-KCH. Very enjoyable and punctual flights with excellent FAs. The check-in desk staff at KUL (first flight) and PEN were extremely tight and rigidly enforced the baggage allowance - which was a problem for me since I had flown PER-BWN-KUL in business class. My second flight from KUL with same amount of baggage was not charged. I had the same tired 737 on two flights but a much newer 737 for the third flight to KCH. I cannot grumble about any aspect of the flights, which were obtained at the lowest of prices. I would fly Air Asia again.

28 February 2006

KUL-BKI-KUL and both sectors were on their new A320. Good service. Bright and full of light inside. Seating just like any other LCC but with good service onboard. New terminal due to open in three weeks.

10 February 2006

I have flown Air Asia 4 times now across a variety of destinations in S E Asia, about 10 flights in all. 8 of them have been delayed. I wouldn't recommend using Air Asia if your journey is not directly point-to-point but involves a connection onto a 2nd flight. The chances are you will be delayed and miss your connecting flight. Baggage allowances are strictly enforced and penalties for extra kilos enforced with enthusiasm! No outside food policy certainly seems a bit over the top. Fine for short flights but think seriously if your trip involves a connection.

2 January 2006

Have flown several times with Air Asia, to/from Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Udon Thani and Kuala Lumpur. Flights generally on time, but boarding tends to be a shambles. (Once arrived at Chiang Rai, only to be met by staff who informed me flight was delayed 3 hours and they had been unable to contact me - not surprising, I had just come from Kengtung, Myanmar. When I explained that I would miss a meeting in Bangkok, without hesitation they went and purchased a ticket for me on the next Thai flight. Excellent service from a low cost airline.) The recent computer problems during December meant phoning KL to see if 'booking had succeeded and card been charged' with a 20 minute queue on the phone. Sometimes it had and sometimes it hadn't! Overall good value but prefer Nok for Thai domestic flights, largely on account of pre-assigned seats.

Air Asia review - by David Fisher

23 December 2005

I have travelled with Air Asia half a dozen times, They are a budget Airline, check in has generally been very good, the logistics of getting on the plane can be a shambles, you can be driven round the airport for 10 minutes to get to the plane, the planes themselves are excellent as are the staff on the planes, flights are not regarded as very punctual and flights can be cancelled and your trip rescheduled. Overall although far from perfect Air Asia remain excellent value, you do after all get what you pay for and they are cheap, if you want the trimmings pay the money and go elsewhere. More ominous however is the recent failing of their computer system, which causes them to tell you to telephone head office in Malaysia to find out if your internet booking has succeeded, whether your credit card has been charged, and to obtain your confirmation number without which you cannot fly. They have also removed user access on their website to both existing and previous bookings so the only way to get information on your bookings is to phone Malaysia on what could be a premium number, (not stated). This computer failure is put down to overwhelming response to their current 'free ticket' offer.' Very poor.

24 September 2005

Recently flew various times with Air Asia. All flights were booked in advance so we secured amazingly cheap tickets. Our experiences varied with each flight. Air Asia check-in desks open a maximum of two hours prior to flight, not a moment sooner. This can be extremely annoying. First flight KUL-KCH in an old 737 that was so delapidated that parts were literally stuck together with gaffer tape. It had been previously operated by a Russian or Eastern European airline, judging from the 'life jacket located under your seat' etc signs being in English and a Cyrillic alphabet. As stated by others, no assigned seating on this airline, so boarding can be rather uncomfortable. The crew on this particular flight were wonderful, very courteous and they obviously worked well together. They organised a little trivia game during the flight, with some Air Asia merchandise as prizes. Our buzzers were the call buttons! I'd never experienced such an 'interactive' flight before, it was nice. KCH-KUL flight delayed; we were given meal vouchers for the airport canteen. They seemed quite used to dealing with these Air Asia delayed flight meal vouchers, leading me to wonder how often this happens! We were delayed quite a while, no information given until time to board, when we were the second-last flight that night. Newer aircraft this time. Was shocked to discover the tight seat pitch on this flight, as we sat in the front row on previous flight, such tight seating really doesn't feel safe. Crew appeared tired and obviously raring to go home; who can blame them, as we arrived at KUL after midnight, nearly two hours late. Next flight KUL-PEN. Spent the night at KLIA due to delayed KCH-KUL flight, so I pretty much slept through this red-eye flight, but still remember one amazingly professional and chirpy FA. Looked you right in the eye with genuine friendliness, how she managed this at such an early hour is remarkable. Air Asia could really work on their in-flight menu, as it offers snacky foods, but nothing to fill you. If you're vegetarian, forget it-- there is a hot chicken and rice dish, but no vego equivalent. I must admit, I'm not a huge fan of budget airlines-- I like the frills, and I like decent leg room-- but for such short distances and some tickets being as cheap as AU$10, I can't really complain.

29 August 2005

Medan-KL. Flight was scheduled at 2025 (Medan time) on 27th Aug. All the flights arrived on time and left at the latest with 10 mins of delay. Till 2130 there was no news at the point when landing lights on the runaway went off due to technical problems in Polonia Airport (Medan). Was informed by Air Asia ground staff that all fights have been cancelled due to the earlier problem mentioned above. We hoped there would have been some sort of consolation due to cancellation of flight. To my surprise there was no accommodation or food provided and told to go back without clear information of what to be done next. As we were about to exit the baggage area, there was a group of people waiting to collect their check in baggage. We realized then, better to wait around and see what is going on. Then we found out that we were suppose to handover the boarding pass to the Air Asia crew at the check in counter. No more info provided besides was asked to return back the following morning at 0700. We had to then pass through again the customs and the immigration to let ourselves out. As we got out from inside the airport, there was a group queuing to get tickets for the following day at the AirAsia ticket counter. So we did the same as there was no clue as what was going on. As we asked the Air Asia staffs at the Air Asia ticket counter, we were told to rebook the tickets for flying out for the following day. After booking was done we left to the nearest hotel to get our dinner and accommodation which was totally paid by ourselves (no thanks to the professionalism of AirAsia). The next morning we found out that there were no extra flights which meant some of the guys after us the night before actually could not get a ticket for the following morning flight and left stranded. I am not sure how would I have reacted if I was left stranded in a foreign country with no accommodation, food and explanation. I sympathize over the stranded passengers and the Air Asia ground staffs as the AirAsia management would have been sleeping in their luxurious bed and counting money.

Kota Bharu - Kuala Lumpur on Sunday 24th July 2005. Short flight which left slightly late, but pilot managed to make up some time and we arrived on time. Everything went well - except I do wish Air Asia assigned seats. My boyfriend and I had to sit separately because everyone else had spaced themselves out over the flight and we were near the end of the queue to board. No food/drink on board but not a problem - on our Malaysian Airlines domestic flight all we received was a cold drink anyway. We arrived at Kota Bharu airport quite early (travelled over from the Perhentians) and the check in counter didn't open until about 1 1/2 before flight left - again, not really a problem but worth noting. Luggage came out promptly at KL. We did have a few problems with the Air Asia web site. It kept timing out which was frustrating. Also, it wouldn't let us book for the next day which I thought was unusual (most budget airlines I know of will let you book a flight for the same day - usually 2-3 hours in advance). When booking you also need to put in your passport details so be sure to have that info with you when booking. The good thing is you don't need to print out the booking confirmation, you can just write down the booking number.

BKK-KUL, AK 881. This was the third time for me in using this airline. The previous two times I was quite dissappointed as I was delayed for around an hour. This time my flight depart at 1000 but I saw the plane just coming to dock around 0935. They manage to unload the arriving passengers and clean the plane (that is if there, is any need in cleaning) in around 10 minutes and the flight manage to leave on time. The flight was not so full so there was no problem in finding a seat with some space next to you. But one thing the airline could do is allow seat booking, as some other low-cost airlines (e.g. Nok Air) do. The staffs were very courteous and friendly. On the flight I purchase some merchandises, I was a bit dissappointed that they did not have any bag, so I have to put it in a clear rubbish bag instead. Another negative point concerns the immigration form on board, the steward stopped giving it out after reaching halfway through the plane, as there was none left. This could be a bit frustrating if you have to rush to some meeting as you have to spend time filling the form at the terminal and waiting for the line to check your passport. But overall, I think it is worth it for the money and the service is bad.

Asia on my holiday trip to Bali with my family. The first flighted departed Kuala Lumpur on time. The return flight was slightly delayed about 15 mins. The crew are very courteous and friendly. Seniors and young children were allowed on board first. Besides no "free" food and drinks, Air Asia could compete with any airline in Malaysia. The money saved from the hefty discounted airfare is more than enough to pay for any meals in the airport.

Air Asia (AK314) from Kuala Lumpur to Penang on 05/07, scheduled to depart at 1130 and arrive at 1220, by when I check in at around 0800. This check-in staff told us that the flight has been cancelled and we are getting on the AK 316 flight which departs at 2105! I am not quite sure that was a timetable change or because of the low demand of my original flight, so that they decided to cancel it without even telling me (not even a single phone call or an e-mail). We knew we are not getting any compensation given the price of this flight (my son and I = RM 57.98), but after a 5 minutes quarrel, we were being given RM15 McDonald's vouchers, which isn't bad. But spending extras on getting to KLCC (eg lockers, transport, food) far outweighs that RM15 we got. We were only allowed to check-in two hours before departure, not even 10min earlier. Then, as we guessed, the flight delayed again, but this time, not Air Asia's fault, but the MAS flight before us having to waiting for these two businessmen for 15min. Apart from the cancellation of the flight, I could recommend the airline, but considered they didn't attempt to inform me of the cancellation, and wasting my time, I do hold reservation about this airline.

Took a air asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Kuching with my wife. Compared to other budget airlines in the UK, the service and attitude of the staff were a lot better. Families and the elderly were given priority like the other big players such as Malaysian and SIA. Drinks could be purchased on the flight. On the return trip, our flight was delayed by 1 1/2 hours but i must say, the person at check in was so polite, we could not fault the airline. He even allowed me to make a call back to my family in Malaysia to tell them I was delayed. Overall, I would recommend this airline because it is a young vibrant budget airlines making travel to local malaysians far more affordable yet they have not lost the warm touch of other asian airlines such as THAI and MAS

BKK-SIN. Flight very cheap at £16 one way. Service basic but can't complain at that price. Airline is a sort of Asian Ryanair/Easyjet. Cabin clean, and had nice leather seats. Drinks and snacks can be purchased onboard not to expensive. Unallocated seating means there can be a rush to get on the plane. Overall very good for the prices, but don't expect frills!

8 May 2005

We flew last weekend from BKK to Phuket on Air Asia. On arrival at the airport the Air Asia counter people told us the flight was delayed three hours. They said they had tried calling to inform us, although our phone never rang. Anyway, the three hours stretched to four and a half, meaning we arrived not at six, in time to take a swim and enjoy a nice waterside dinner, but at 10:30, three hours after our sons bedtime. It got the weekend off to a bad start - and Air Asia never explained why. They did give us a two dollar voucher for a Burger King dinner at the airport.

Manila (Clark) to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. We are supposed to board at around 4:00pm and our flight is supposed to be 4:20pm. They announced that our flight was delayed because of the busted tires. We were re-scheduled at around 10pm. When 10pm came, they told us to fly at around 12am. Because they are a budget airline, we have expected that they cannot afford to bring us to a hotel. We are all hungry and have nothing to eat. At last, Air Asia gave us a meal (1pc. Fried Chicken and Rice). When 12:30am came, they told us that our flight was delayed and we are re-sked on 3:20am. Finally we flew. The flight was smooth. . When I've asked one of the cabin crew if this happens frequently, they've told us that it only happened that time.

Have just returned from a multi-centre holiday, (Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Bangkok) and used this airline for the internals. The first two flights left on time and the BKI/BKK flight was delayed by 30 minutes. Found the legroom to be perfectly adequate, especially where the flight was not completely full, (I am 6ft tall). Seating was very comfortable leather and in good condition. Staff were efficient and polite as to be expected in Asia. Prices are ridiculously cheap, I paid £10.50, £9.50 and £23.50 respectively, (including tax)! My primary holiday destination is always somewhere in Asia and I will therefore always use this Airline where practical in the future.

HKT-KUL and KUL-BKK. Both flights departed and arrived on-time. Check-in staff were efficient, friendly and helpful, for a moment you thought it was a non- budget airline. The staff were very efficient in turning the aircraft around - 20mins back to back. The seat were comfortable enough, no complaint because we paid only £5 to KUL and £60 to BKK - my fault booked it last minute.

Would like to agree wholeheartedly with Karen Ho. Recently flew with my wife Bangkok to Chiang Mai and return. On time both journeys. No faults at all as far as I am concerned. It is a budget airline. Some of the budget airlines closer to home could learn a lot from Air Asia. Very pleasant experience. Would book again with absolutely no hesitation.

I have flown with Air Asia at 6 times and suffered no delays yet. Booking through their online website was convenient and time saving. I would like to add that since this IS a BUDGET Airline, do NOT expect a first class bells and whistles service. Paying peanuts and expecting a SIA/MAS full service is not fair to Air Asia. I like the crisp crew's red uniforms and the Thai Air Asia's leather seats. Just wish we could meet the pilots. I just returned from Bangkok on Feb 18,2005 and will be flying to Trengganu on Feb 28. April 25, 2005 will be my maiden flight to Macao. Thank you Air Asia for providing us a affordable way to fly.

15 February 2005

I must agree with an earlier commentary that Air Asia's customer service need to look hard and fast at their inability to answer passenger queries. Having travelled twice on AA between Bangkok/Kota Kinabalu and Bangkok/Singapore I must comment that the inflight service is good value, however, today 14 Feb 2005, there is still no online service availability from Bangkok after 26 March 2005. Despite sending an e-mail in January (like a previous correspondent) I have received no reply. As a valentines present to my wife I therefore have booked BKK/SIN on Tiger Airways who along with Valuair and Jetstar have long advertised their April services.

Bangkok-Singapore: Check in was quick. Boarding is on an open seating arrangement, so line up early to get the best seats. The flight left ontime. My flight was only about 50-60% full, so there were many seats to choose from. The leather seats are quite comfortable, but if you are tall, you may want to scramble for an exit row as leg room is a little short. Crew was friendly, service included sandwiches and beverages for a small fee. I would compare this airline to Southwest in USA. For a short trip, this airline worked for me.

2 February 2005

I flew Air Asia from MFM (Macau) - KLIA - MFM on the 27th of Jan. The reason why i chose this flight is because it's timings allowed me to have two full days in KL for meetings whilst only staying one night. Make sure you get an early check-in from your hotel! Outbound from Macau, the flight left bang on time. Very competent and personable cabin and flight crew. Full of smiles, and laughs which was surprising as they were turning around after a 4 hour flight from KUL. Hot meals (Nasi Lemak) was available for purchase in addition to the usual drinks & snacks. Noticed that the majority of passengers were mainland Chinese who probably expected a full service airline - many of them asked for blankets, and were surprised to see a menu with prices. Return flight was a different story however. Flight delayed over 45 mins due to technical problems. However, boarding was very confused and chaotic as there was a flight to Kuching departing after us from the same gate. However, the Kuching passengers were in the boarding area together with us. The boarding screens showed that the Macau flight was on final call whilst the Kuching flight was not yet boarding according to the monitors - but in fact it was the other way round. Many of the Macau passengers managed to board the Kuching flight. Once the ground crew realized what was happening, they had to check everyone on the Kuching flight and this lead to a further delay. The crew onboard this flight wasn't as professional as the previous flight.

Singapore - Bangkok and Bangkok-Udon Thani on Thai Air Asia: Both flight were delayed (1 hour and 2 hours). Thai Air Asia’s planes seem to be in a better condition than those used by Air Asia in Malaysia. The leather seats are nice and comfortable. Service is all right for a LCC. On both flight only drinks were available for sale. Considering the fare charged, it is not possible to complain.

28 January 2005

I've flown Air Asia around 10 times, international, domestic Malaysian, and domestic Thai, including just last weekend (BKK-UTH-BKK for less than US$30 return). I have usually been quite happy: the value for money is amazing by any standard. Usually flights depart on time and everything goes like clockwork, but like all low-cost carriers the tight scheduling can cause problems: a single mechanical problem (even on a different plane) can cause multi-hour delays to cascade through the schedule for the rest of the day. Don't take AK/FD if you have a tight connection to catch, but for leisure travel it's more than OK in my book.

11 January 2005

Their extremely low prices are the reason to take Air Asia. I did all my travel in South-East Asia with them. Boarding, while a scramble, was rather fast. However, as soon as one person lines up, all passengers lined up. I once lined up first 20 minutes before the gate opened. What ensued was that all other passengers, unnecessarily, lined up (including passengers with children). I am glad they board passengers with children first. One flight was delayed by 1 hour, two flights were within the "30 minute" acceptable delay time, and one 6:45 AM flight was early by 5 minutes. Gladly, the airline is a short-haul airline, though the flights do have leather seats. The sandwich I purchased was not good. I did have to change my flights, through the call center, due to the tsunami. The staff was generally friendly, though inconsistent. The first woman I had was very nice, though she misbooked one of my flights, which I found out the day before the flight. I had to call a second time to rebook. The person who originally took the call didn't accept my complaint that the flight was misbooked, but his supervisor was excellent in allowing me to rebook that flight. Definitely confirm the flight before you leave, and also make any complaints to their call center.

Despite sending frequent emails to Air Asia since December 1st, requesting information on a specific scheduled routing for April 2005, I have still not received the courtesy of a reply or an acknowledgement from them. This draws into question how customer focused they may be in other areas as well and I would therefore be very wary of booking with them.

18 September 2004

I've flown with Air Asia a few times. Their airfares are the talk of the town and I must agree these are rock bottom prices; hence this is the main reason I chose to fly with them. Services rendered, on board and ground, are comparable to those more established airlines. Their call centres for ticket bookings are efficient and helpful. However I've noticed that AirAsia has one blatant flaw that's given the airline an immense-bad publicity. This airline will simply postpone or cancel a scheduled flight at the very 11th hour. Most of this occur either during when its patrons are on their way to the airport or during check-in. I've experienced this "stunt" twice myself and it messed up one of my my family vacations ! No apology were given, they will simply put you in the next flight out. And when i questioned them about the incident, the check-in staff simply replied that they've sent a text message to my mobile to inform me about the delay. I was given no option but to accept this unacceptable explanation and then tortured myself by waiting for a few more hours for the next flight. I really hope that Air Asia can seriously look into this matter as people hate it when their trip itinerary is ruined, be it a vacationer or a business traveller.

17 September 2004

I have flown with Air Asia for 10 times. Only one is delay for a while. The others are still in acceptable delays. I dont have any big problem with all of my flight. With such low price, I think I will fly again with Air Asia in the future. However, I notice that now Air Asia has changed some of its flight time. I am afraid that it will reduce the passengers. It is better to check once again about the demand from the passengers. Add more duty free items so passengers have choices to select. Maybe the food items too!

12 September 2004

Flew many times with Air Asia since 1996 when they were under DRB Hicom. Not only me but also my colleagues in my office. What I can say about AA flight that they are cheap in the sense of their air fare but not airline and hassle free, unlike MH.Yes, the leg room is a bit tight and sometimes the landing was bad. I'm more concern about the safety features ,maintenance of aircraft and cleanliness rather then whether the stewardess looking good or not. I will definately recommend friends and others who wish to visit within Malaysia as it was rather affordable especially East Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. AA has improved tremendously by providing online booking and periodic promotions. Unfortunately the amendment fees and change name are way too high. Change name was only RM15 few years ago. Hope it will be revised.

6 September 2004

My four friends and I have only taken Air Asia once and it looks like it will be our first and last time taking Air Asia. The morning before flying to Kota Kinabalu (KK), I called Air Asia about the procedures and was told that they have changed my flight to the afternoon and I asked them, why wasn't I told of the changes and they told me that the have SMS me but I did not received the SMS at all and I was already on my way to the airport with my friends. My friends spoke to them and told them that if I can go in the morning, then all of us have to cancel the trip, only then, they reinstated me. The checking in was bad, not seat number and when it was time to board the flight, most of the passengers had the "Singapore kiasu syndrome" and it was chaotic. The seats are small compared to those in MAS and the leg room is basically none. I would not want to imagine where a six footed going to put his legs. The service was bad the flghts attendants are rude, especially the ladies. On the way back from KK, our flight was delay for 3 hours. We waited in the airport like fools for about 5 hours. Later we found out that the first light and the second flight out of KK were half full and instead of having two trips, why not combine that two flights in one and let the first flight passengers wait, how professional. How am I to trust Air Asia with their schedules knowing for the fact that they will purposely delay flights so that they can combine two flights into one to cut cost. I know for a fact that there were and still are alot of of compliants against the Air Asia on their professionalism, which is literally none existence, as far as I am concern.

BKK-HKT; Quick check-in, fast boarding (I kind of like the free seating arrangement) clean equipment and friendly FA's in sharp uniforms. The prices just can't be beat, and nice schedules. I've been telling everyone I know to give them a try, great budget airline. My flights have always left the gate on time (although BKK can have traffic problems).

I have flown Air Asia on several occasions now, mainly on the Thai domestic flights. I have found the planes to be clean and tidy. The cost is good, and considerably less than the Thai Airlines flights, where the only difference is a snack meal. The only complaint was the check in which was a litTle slow, however I will certainly be using them again on my next trip. And the choice of destinations is improving all of the time.

5 August 2004

I live in KL, and have made about 12 flights with Air Asia. Only one was (slightly) delayed. Cabin cleanliness was exemplary every time. I too started out thinking that not having pre-assigned seating was Bad News - but it's quite the opposite, because the so-called "scrum" to board the plane avoids all that nonsense on other airlines of waiting for those latecomers who amble on after having had PA announcements made to encourage them to join the rest of the passengers who actually want to leave on time. Air Asia is very cheap and efficient and delivers just what it says on the packet - the best thing to happen to Malaysia in a long time!

Air Asia review - by Wouter Gijs

5 August 2004

We used Air Asia on 3 internal flights. Booking was done through the internet which went swiftly and correct. At the airport, you just show the booking printout and the passports. You get a flimsy boarding pass looking like a supermarket bill. They are serious about overweight luggage because you are allowed just 15 kg - but the extra charge is just 50 baht / kg. Airplanes are modern Boeing 737's. One class configuration, all leather seats. Seat pitch is pretty narrow. Families with children board first. The seats are not allocated. Drinks and snacks (and even Air Asia souvenirs) are sold at economical rates. Toilets are clean, the airplane is clean enough. Staff is friendly and correct. Prices were 300 baht to Udorn and 500 baht on the Phuket stretch. These prices seem to have increased a bit recently. Be aware about the fact that Air Asia doesn't guarantee connections on their own flights. You have to get out of the airplane and check in again for the next flight. This forced us to take a Nokair ticket on the Phuket- Bangkok- Udorn Thani stretch - otherwise we had to wait 5 hours! Air Asia advertises itself as "now everyone can fly". It is very economical and the quality is there. Good alternative for Nokair and Orient Thai (and Valuair on the Singapore stretch for visa runs.) Each flight the plane was full. Each flight had a small departure delay of about 10-20 minutes. But arrival times were almost correct. You can book by phone, internet and also at regional small offices. Domestic terminals of Bangkok, Phuket and Udorn Thani are small and convenient.

Chiang Mai -Bangkok. Cannot comment on leg room as I was warned to rush on and grab the front seats. Seating is NOT allocated. First in best dressed. Mad rush by all. Flight OK, plane clean. Check in was on a lap top which had to be plugged in and booted a few times for the first flight. When there was a problem, a written sheet was referred to to check on a booking. It was all sorted in typical Thai way to smiles. Good value, especially the online deals. I just turned up and bought my ticket for the flight and saving a few hundred Baht over Royal Thai when the discernible difference seems to be only a salad roll and soft drink on Thai.

Both times I have used Air ASIA (Labuan- KL return) the aircraft was delayed by 3 and a half hours and nearly two hours. Flight was okay. Pilot wearing a baseball cap was a bit of a worry! Don't rely on Air Asia to get you to your destination on time if you have a connecting flight.

JHB-KUL, KUL-LGK, LGK-KUL, KUL-JHB routes. My 1st time flying with non-frills airline. Great flights. However seat pitch is tight, but that is what I expected for a low-cost airline. Noticed most of the seat are torn or in bad shape except for KUL-LGK flight where clean leather seats was provided. Staffs are friendly but they looked tired, maybe I was on the evening flights, that's why. Other than that, everything was fine. Glad to see that no-frills airline has started well in asia. Will certainly flight with AirAsia again. Hope they can introduce more routes!

Flew with Air Asia Chiang Mai-Bangkok-Phuket-Bangkok in June 2004. Quite happy with the airline, nice clean leather seats, very friendly flight attendants, all flights on time or before time, check-in quite easy and fast for a no-frills-airline, and flight prices very low. Will for sure fly again.

On the 20th May flew with Air Asia one way from Khota Bharu to KL for just MYR80 (£15.GBP)including taxes. No fuss no hassle. Flight departure on time, arrived KL early. Plane half full. Fare much cheaper than Malaysian Airlines. I would happily fly with them again.

13 May 2004

I've flown Air Asia KLIA-JHB (2035hrs) a total of 4 times out of which 2 had delays of more than 2 hours. This is highly unacceptable even for a budget airline. The cause of the delays were not properly communicated to irrate passengers. Too many personnel took turns at the PA system making announcements of re-timed departure times that didn't quite happen. To me the staff are obviously poorly trained to handle or respond to delay situations and the airline don't have a proper strategy on how to ease the difficulties caused by these delays. There were promises of chartered buses to Singapore (it was well past midnight when we arrived at Senai Airport) that didn't materialised. We still had to pay for the bus fare & midnight taxi fares to get back home. I certainly would not recommend AirAsia to anyone on both sides of the Causeway due to these experiences.

13 April 2004

KUL-PEN-KUL, KUL-AOR-KUL, LGK-KUL and the BKK-KUL sectors. Most of the time flights are right on the dot for both departures and arrivals. Only delays I've had was when we had to divert to PEN (LGK-KUL 1730hrs 12 Feb 04) for technical reasons, and delayed take-off due to traffic (BKK-KUL 1510hrs 14 Mar 04). Now I can take my family almost anywhere without worrying too much about my plastic melting.

8 April 2004

KUL to PEN last week. It was a great experience travel with this low-cost airline. I choose the day flight (7.20am) as there is only 2 choices day or night. The staff at check-in counter was quite rude. Depart on time. Uncomfortable seat because this flight using the old AC. Cabin crew was great and friendly (the steward uniform was nice, better then MH). I buy a sandwich and mango juice and it cost RM 9.00. This 50min flight was arrive on time with no aerobridge and it cost about RM 80.00 include the food.

30 March 2004

AK from JHB-KCH and return on a B733. Boarding & take-off at JHB on time as it's the aircraft's 1st flight for the day. Departure from KCH delayed for about 25mins (expected though for the late nite flight coz the aircraft might experience some delay from other places it has travelled to earlier on), but the turnaround time is quick, only about 20mins from the landing of the plane till its pushback for take-off again. Aircraft is clean and seat is comfortable (though the legroom is quite limited, and my seat for both ways could auto-recline by itself). 3 friendly crews serve the passengers throughout the 1hr20min flight (very young & refreshing looks). Crews serve food & drinks, followed by souvenirs, for passenger to purchase. It's good to see the arrangement for families with children & senior citizens to board first before other passengers are allowed to clear the boarding gate. Boarding/disembarking the plane without the areobridge seems to be more faster. Though we're always the last to board the 3/4 full plane, we still managed to get a window seat.

17 February 2004

Flight from KUL -TGG. Don't look for legroom on the 737-300, but if you want a bit of comfort sit on the first row of seats (ample legroom) as soon as you board the aircraft. Most people tend to move to the back. Also means you will be first of the plane. The Galley is up front which will also give you good service if you need anything. Air Asia tends to add 15 to 20 minutes to it's flying time in case of delays. KUL to TGG took 35 minutes instead of 50. Good and easy flight. Worth the money.

Air Asia review - by Hugues Martel

4 February 2004

JHB-KUL: umbrella were offered to passenger to board the plane as it was raining. Crew were very polite and seemed very professional. The seat are comfortable. As mentioned before, the legroom is limited but for the fare 19.99RM, you can not complain. Then in conclusion a very good low cost airline. I would definitely recommend it to anybody travelling in Malaysia or Thailand.
