KUL-CNX. After an excellent flight on Air Asia X from LGW, I carried on to Chaing Mai with Air Asia. Standard AA experience, especially when compared to the likes of Ryanair in Europe. I had an email several weeks before departure saying that my meal choice was being discontinued and quoted the substitute meal which was quite tast). My only criticism is the website and how one has to be careful not to book something you don't want as I have just done. On the next outbound leg I changed the baggage allowance to no bags but missed it on the return so I have an allowance but no bags!

I flew from Phuket to Perth and need not have worried. Flights were on time, the aircraft excellent, great cabin staff and the food I ordered was quite acceptable for the price. The seating was fine and no different to a full fare airline. Would rate it as one of the most comfortable flights I have taken.

Singapore to Bangkok. The rows of seats were very close together and seemed narrower than other airlines. Nothing was free or included in the fare, not even water. They not only weighed my checked bag, but weighed my carry-on. The flight itself was very smooth. I would definitely fly Air Asia again, although, admittedly, it wouldn't be my first choice.

SIN-BKI-SIN, Great value for money flying Air Asia from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu and return. On time both ways. Clean cabins, good leather seats, efficient, young fresh attitude staff, friendly and helpful. Felt good on the planes. Like colors interior/exterior of planes.

My wife and I flew from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. We were pleasantly surprised how good this low cost airline is. Aircraft is pretty new, neat and clean; crew friendly, helpful and efficient. Check-in agents at both Singapore and KL were nice and efficient. Nothing was free onboard, we bought bottle water and a sandwich. Prices were reasonable. The Low Cost Carrier Terminal took a bit to get used, but we had no problem getting help with immigration, customs, and transportation to city proper. An airline of value!

CNX-KUL and PEN-BKK. For the price and bearing in mind this is a low cost carrier then very good. Pre-ordered food on CNX-KUL arrived without hitch - as did flights and luggage. Delay ex PEN due to storm but part made up despite flight being only 1hr 15mins. Seats are a little cramped but to be expected and overall a very good product. Crews all good and despite full loads relaxed and charming.

MEL-KUL, KUL-CMB return. One flight cancelled before the travel date, however I was given the option to change all flights without additional cost. Surprised by good service, although food quality could improve. Value for money. Only real negative is the high price for picking seats ($25n MEL-KL ).

SIN-KUL. After flying around Europe with Ryanair and easyjet, the service of AirAsia feels better, FA's were more caring. 6 seats across in B737, the leg room is tight, even for an Asian who is 1.78m tall. For just under an hour flight, this was tolerable.

DPS-PER (Indonesia Air Asia) - hard to find fault, the plane was clean, flight was on time, prepaid meal was small but delicious. I paid $117 just 3 weeks before, including baggage, meal and extra leg room - less than I paid for an internal flight in Indonesia. The only thing I would suggest is they could accept credit card payment in-flight, at least for duty free purchases.

BKK-Penang return. Asked and paid for assistance as have problems walking and needed a wheelchair. Had a chair on the outward trip as far as the bus then left to struggle on and off the bus on my own and to climb up to the aircraft. At Penang Airport had chair but had to walk up 2 flights of steps. The return was not too bad till got to Bangkok - no chair waiting, the air hostess tried to ring for a chair but nobody answered the phone. Had to walk whole way through the airport with great difficulty and then collect my luggage. By the time I got to arrivals to meet my daughter I could hardly walk and was in a great deal of pain. Will never travel Air Asia again alone.

Perth to KUL. My elderly mother paid extra to travel premium economy - what a waste! On both flights, ground staff did not give priority boarding to premium economy passengers - everyone just barged on to the aircraft without a care for anyone else. Space between aisles was much tighter than other airlines and the seats certainly seem to be less roomier. Like a previous reviewer, if you are going to have rules about luggage you must be prepared to enforce them! We had originally booked flights leaving Perth mid-afternoon and today I was informed by email that the flight had now been cancelled and we have been moved to an 8 pm flight. No sign of any compensation, nothing but a note in the email to say that we hope it won't inconvenience you in any way!

Three flights Kolkata (CAL) to BBK and BBK-CNX return. All flights comfortable and, with one exception, on time. Air Asia's offer is basic but good. The seats are reasonably comfortable and better than many budget airlines. Having flown Air Asia for many years I notice the staff are not as enthusiastic as in the early days, nor do they have time to interact with passengers. I wish the company would enforce their 'one carry-on bag' policy. Some passengers on one flight had up to four large bags. What's the point in having the policy if it's not enforced.

SIN-CNX-SIN. Good value for money. New A320-200 both ways. All flights on time. Aircraft clean, spacious. Load only 50%. No IFE. FA inexperienced, fairly professional, but without personality. Food purchased in advance was very disappointing (both ways) and just in foil with a spoon, absolutely nothing else, not even salt. Food expensive for nothing. Biggest minus is the hassle with transfers where one has to vacate and re- enter the airport to sort baggage, custom and immigrations for onwards travels. The airline tolerates mostly 2 pieces of hand-luggage. Inscribed luggage charged overweight if more than 1-2 kg. When purchase ticket one has to be careful not to be trapped purchasing expensive seating and superfluous insurance.

Flights from Perth-KL, then KL to Bangkok return. 4 flights, 1 was fantastic. The rest were very disappointing. Even a 3 star airline should be able to provide clean seating and toilets. We were subject to 'attitude' from staff when we complained about the chewing gum over our table, dried vomit over the back of the seats in front of us and the accompanying smell. We were eventually moved. A toilet door broke, because it wouldn't shut people sitting adjacent had to put up with the chemical smell. Our pre-ordered meals weren't served to us.

Fully satisfied in the past, however, my last two trips were awful. Since Air Asia introduced web check-in the problem has started. My flight was to Chennai, I did web check-in and arrived 2.5 hours early for baggage drop off. However, the baggage drop off area was total chaos! People were cutting in between the lines without any respect for the queue. I waited in line for almost 2 hours without moving. 40 mins before departure two new counters opened for Chennai only and I managed to get my luggage dropped off 20 mins before departure. Ran for immigration but my expatriate gold card helped me pass through quickly and I boarded the flight 5 mins before departure. This has now happened to me a few times, in the past when there was separate check-in counters there were no issue.

The night before I flew from CNX I spent a good half an hour checking-in via the web for my flight. On arrival at CNX they had 3 flights departing at approximately the same time and only 3 check-in desks open. There was no Baggage Drop-Off counter for passengers who took the time to check-in online - even their self-check- in facility was out of order! I queued for 40 minutes. Not providing the facility at CNX whilst promoting its use is unreasonable and irrational. Besides this aspect of their service this flight and the previous five with Air Asia have been similarly delayed. Don't be taken in with the price, sometimes it is cheaper to fly TG. All the planes I have flown are exceptionally clean and look and feel new however I regret that Air Asia is loosing its credibility and its novelty is wearing mighty thin.

KUL (LCCT)-LGK (Langkawi) return. AirAsia's Terminal is basic but efficient, as are the staff. Both flights were smooth in A320s that looked brand new. For both flights, we had seats in row 2 where space seemed bigger than other rows behind but ok for a 50 minute flight. Staff were friendly and the captain's announcements were clear and professional. I can only recommend them.

Onboard my seat was musty and dirty. I had already ordered food online and when I received the 'Chef and Crew's choice' dish, it was cold and soggy. Thank goodness the price is reasonable, or else, I would lodge a complaint.

KUL-PEN, roundtrip on 25-26 December. A pleasant trip especially on the return leg. Aircraft was clean and stewardess friendly. The return trip was better as staff were more friendly and hospitable. Did not buy any drinks or food because it was a short flight. Overall a good trip and will fly them again if the price is good.

Flew one-way KUL-LGW and managed to get standby upgrade from economy to Premium via the Optiontown service. Though notification of successful upgrade only came through via email some 8 hours before the flight. Not best but for the low price it was worth it. 14 hrs flight to LGW was fine. Food-wise, there is just one main dish item for each meal service ie. no starters, bread or desserts. A free bottle of water was provided with each meal (part of the Premium deal). Other soft drinks were chargeable. Not a problem if one manages one's expectations and prepares ahead accordingly. The Premium seat does indeed fold out flat but not horizontally. It tilts at an angle with head higher than the feet. It was comfortable enough and roomy. Almost full size pillows and light quilts were provided which was excellent. It was well worth getting upgraded this way (on standby via Optiontown). The total cost of the one way ticket was less than some one-way economy tickets within Europe! The entertainment console which cost RM 35 was okay. It had 6 films or so on it and some other TV programs and music. Crew were efficient. Commended. Baggage arrived fine. Will fly Air Asia X again in future.

Flew multiple flights over a 2 week period (HKG-BKK-SIN-KUL). Very poor service. Yes it is a cheap option, but its not worth the headache. Not one flight was on-time. Luggage handling was shocking. Through the windows at the terminals, you could see the staff actually throwing baggage around. The onboard service was poorly organized, staff were not able to communicate well to passengers, and often seemed very confused as to what they should be doing. Check-in for each flight was a nightmare, painfully slow and again not well organized. Staff were rude and seemed to require a lot of assistance from a supervisor to manage the process.

The appropriate name for this airlines is "there is a charge for that" airlines. We booked a last minute one way Singapore-Langkawi at 90usd/ticket. We still get charged for reprinting boarding pass. The gate agent would not take a PDF of the boarding pass on my smart phone. We had to clear immigration and re-print the boarding pass at check-in. There is no complimentary refreshment offered in flight, not even a cup of water! There is a charge for extra leg room, extra weight, advanced seating, etc. So even if you were to catch their low fare promos it will add up. At least the flight attendants were polite but check-in area were a mess.

BKK-CEI, CNX-BKK, BKK-CCU. Pre-payment of baggage fees online saves a good deal compared to paying at airport counter. Bag check at BKK very time-consuming both times, since we had already checked in and paid baggage fees. Ability to check bags through on connecting flights would be a great service, but not offered for our flights from Chiang Mai to Kolkata via Bangkok. Clean aircraft. Pleasant staff at check-in, gate and onboard. Chiang Mai flight late in day delayed an hour - gate personnel didn't offer explanation or announcements and didn't seem to have any information. Value for money excellent.

BKK-CNX-BKK. Have used Air Asia many times and have never encountered any problems. Checked in online, paid for 15kg of baggage and slightly overweight. Check in staff did not charge for extra weight. Both flights departed on time and flight attendants smart, polite and efficient. Aircraft looked relatively new and clean. Did not order food as flight was short. All in all Air Asia offer a great service and good value for money. European low cost carriers could learn a lot from Air Asia.

KL to BKK. We have flown a lot with AA over the years and find them excellent value, punctual and the service very reliable. The booking system is extremely misleading, with many low cost airlines, by not giving you a fully inclusive price of cost and all taxes right at the beginning. I also find it very annoying that you have to physically remove such things as insurance.

Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi. Only an hour flight so can put up with lack of leg room and no need to pay for extra food. Hidden costs kept mounting up on booking (food, baggage, seat choice etc) but if you travel light and aren't fussy with seats or food then it's cheap. Flight attendants friendly and very well presented. However both there and back the flight was delayed but at least 45 minutes. Their turnaround and style was more like catching a bus so we were herded out onto the tarmac to wait while the previous flight's crew was still disembarking. Friendly captain, nice newish planes (some armrests a bit cracked though) and of cheap.

No frills and cheapest flights to Paris from KL. The ground staff was helpful and friendly. The on board staff was efficient. I couldn't believe I was flying to Europe from Asia (and back) for under $700 (it was originally $610 but I re-booked). The plane was not packed and so it didn't feel cramped. Meals were okay. Bring a sarong or jacket because it can get cold. No free blankets or pillows. I brought my own neck pillow. Just make sure you book your meals ahead of time and have a printed copy of your ticket and food stubs. There was no inflight entertainment available for all (you have to pay, but if there are 2 of you traveling you can share). Bring 1-2 books to keep you company. The flights were on time. This airline is for those who aren't expecting much but the basics of travel. It delivers its promise of affordable travel.

Singapore to Bangkok. Disappointed with the seats and the plane, old and cramped. Returning from Bangkok, were told the wrong departure time so despite being early missed our flight. KL to Kota Kinabalu departing from LCCT airport. It was raining heavily that day and passengers were ushered through the boarding area into the covered walkways leading to the planes. Due to the heavy downpour, we had to wait almost 30mins before being allowed to board. While boarding I noticed some luggage bags left unattended in the rain, just next to the plane and to my horror, when we landed at Kota Kinabalu Airport, many bags arrived soaking wet.

London Stansted to Kuala Lumpur. Flight left on time, staff were professional and friendly, albeit a bit robotic. Pre-ordered Malaysian meals for our flights, outward was fine, but returning they left a wait of approx 6 hrs between the meals, by the time the second meal came round we were starving. In-flight entertainment costs about £12.00 and should last about 4-5hrs, in reality they last about 3hrs then die on you mid-way through the film. I asked the stewardess about this who just gave a nervous laugh and didn't really help. It's a budget airline so you get what you pay for. Having said that, the tickets were cheap £400 return to KL and the service was on time, so even though I had small niggles about the airline I would recommend them.

Both meals came with a bottle of water and nothing else. We were let down with the availability of the inflight entertainment. We tried to pre-book it online but couldn't work out how to do it on the website. We could only get inflight entertainment by asking the cabin crew onboard and only if there were enough screens to go around. There were only 8 screen tablets on the entire plane and in the end we had to go without.

Air Asia Chiang Mai - Bangkok. We booked the flight and due to some error, the flying date when ticketed was 1 day later. We immediately phoned Air Asia to inform them of problem. They said that changes of reservation is subject to a charge if changed 48 hrs before flight. However, the flight was booked within 48 hrs of flying and complaint made within 15 minutes of the booking, and receipt of e mail. They have no e mail and everything must be done via their website. The website keeps sending automated responses. They have a very bad customer service and support, and do not seem to understand the problem. I've sent 3 messages to them, and all 3 returned with same automated response. It seems they are robotic and have lost the human touch in search of cheap fares.

Hanoi-Bangkok. The reservation of Air Asia leaves a lot to be desired. I am aware it is low cost and that it makes a living from tickets + add ons but the system is not clear. The ticket price is clear but the add ons are being shown already ticked and in case you are not careful it will be added automatically to the ticket price, this includes the checked in baggage, insurance and seat selection. The seat selection is the silliest of all as it takes skill to cancel it. A small charge of 3USD is slapped on the ticked without warning at the last stage as "convenience charge", which Air Asia was not really ready to explain. I guess it should be called "Air Asia convenience charge" as its clearly their convenience and not mine. Online check in was quick and easy. Received more than 8 emails in 4 days taunting me to buy add ons which I consider annoying. Check in was quick as I was already in the system. Plane on time, clean A320 with 90% load factor, cabin crew ok, leg room getting worse. Especially when the price was levelled with legacy carriers, Air Asia will remain just an option for me just in case there are no other flight out there.

BKI-SIN. Check-in at BKI Terminal 2 was disastrous. Used the self check in kiosks which gives you a boarding pass but you had to queue up at the document verification counter to get a chop for international flights. However, the counter was a multi purpose counter together with normal check in, bag drop and web check in which means I had to queue up no matter what. Queries to the ground staff asking whether we need to queue up were answered in Malay which shows that their ground staff do not understand English. Despite being my birthday, I did not expect anything special from them but it was a nice touch that the agent that checked boarding passes wished me a happy birthday. Onboard, I was given a birthday card signed by both pilots and flight attendants plus a very nice birthday song from the leading flight attendant at 35000 feet. This made the whole experience wonderful. In short, I will fly AirAsia again in the future. They are truly the world's best low cost airline!

Flew to Penang and Bali on AirAsia. The journeys were smooth. The seats and food arrangement was what is expected of a budget airline.

Bangkok-Jakarta. The flight departed 2 hrs late with only a half-hearted, garbled apology from the crew and no real explanation. Not even a bottle of water offered by way of compensation. Seating was cramped and uncomfortable. Unless I could get one of their promo fares I would avoid this airline in the future.

Kuching-LCT (return). I have used AirAsia quite often, but each time I used it disappointed me. Among my disappointments are the distances that we have to walk from the plane to the terminal at LCCT and the food was expensive. But, what amazes me is that even though my flight was delayed 10-30 mins in Kuching, we still arrive on time and in some cases early. Even though AirAsia is a low cost airline, you will have to book early if you want low fares. If you book last minute than it is better to use MAS than AirAsia because the fare rates are not very different.

Stumbled on a fare of MYR 14.00 (about US$6.00) from KL to Singapore. Couldn't possibly pass it up. Flight was typical AA, but the 60 minute flight was 25 minutes early, gate to gate. The other big plus of using AA to Changi is that they use the main airport not the budget terminal. So one benefits from Changi's full price services at a lower cost, and has easier access to public transport into the business district.

Kuala Lumpur-Saigon. Flight on time. A320 is fairly new. Cheapest on that route at the time of booking, therefore recommended.

SIN-KUL-SIN. I'd like to thank Air Asia for the courteous check in staff both in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Planes are new and the flight was not delayed. The only downside about this airline is that they do not offer bus transfer from the airport to the aircraft in KL-LCCT. It was like a 500 meter walk for us at 1200 midnight.

CNX-KUL. Decided late in the day to travel to KUL so not the cheapest fare. I used the new automatic check in machine as I had no bags. It became noticeable that there was no Air Asia staff at the gate to meet the incoming flight, or at the departure gate. Four minutes after the departure time, I received a text saying the flight was delayed and would depart at 0950. The departure boards at the airport and at the gate said nothing. After several hours it was announced that there was a gate change. We left over 2 hours late, no announcements at the gate as to why, or even a sorry. Once onboard they got us away quickly, but again it took a while for an apology to come and the reason for the delay. The late arrival meant that the immigration lines at LCCT were horrendous. Of course no compensation in any form for the delay unless of course you had their insurance. My next three journeys are all with Air Asia and for once they were the cheapest options thanks to getting a promotion fare on the day I wanted to travel.

SIN-KCH-SIN on clean A320. Friendly and cabin crew. On-line reservations for seats or middle seats without someone sitting next to you. New cabin seats on some aircraft are much better. Lavatory not kept tidy. My seat was 11E and noise from all the screaming babies sitting in economy was very noticeable.

Worst thing about this airline is the scam they have at Hong Kong International airport - on checking in I noticed many people running around with cash held high and wondered why, I was soon to find out. The check in clerk said my passport wasn't valid to travel to Thailand: I pointed out I had a re-entry visa and had entered only 7 days earlier from London. I was told to wait 45 minutes. I then had a meeting with the supervisor who eventually agreed with me that my passport was OK. He then told me to check in at the special desk for Air Asia staff; the girl there asked me for 280$HK as I had extra bags! I said they were the same ones as I'd checked in at Bangkok 4 days earlier with no charge. She said pay 280$ or not get on the plane. This was the scam 3 people working together!

We have used Air Asia twice, PER-DPS return. We paid about half the price that other family members paid flying Strategic Airlines Perth-Bali which is a huge saving. Recommend pre booking seats, we booked hot seats both times next to emergency exits. Food is ok, but for a short trip (around 3.5 hours) its not a necessity anyway. Hostesses friendly and responded to calls quickly.

Six regional flights over a six week period. All flights satisfactory; only one with a significant delay (one hour). Information given about the delay. On-board comfort is good for a budget airline. Staff friendly although little interaction with passengers because they are constantly busy with sales.

Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur to Borneo return in Business Class. Our flight was cancelled at departure due to weather and we were put up in a nice 5 star hotel. However the next day we were last off our bus taking 15 other passengers and the bus driver held us and made us pay the fare for the bus telling us we would be able to get it back from Air Asia. No chance. We went to their counters in Australia and Malaysia and no could help us and they do not return any emails I have sent them and we cannot get any help on the phone. Also my daughter could not get the blanket etc that we paid for online before we boarded. Seats were ok in the recline but somewhat hard over a long journey.

Siem Reap to KUL, KUL to Medan, CGK to BKK, and Surabaya to KUL. All flights were routine, without incident and on time. Website is one of the most user friendly I have used. Although recent ploys like tacking on a transaction fee with payment via credit card is tacky. If one understands beforehand how things work it will add to a streamlined process from online ticket purchase to baggage and food purchase. The fees for checked in luggage, preferred seating, and food are clear and coherent. One has the option of paying for checked in luggage by kilo increments - it is considerably cheaper to prepay for checked in luggage online rather than at check in. Food is a bargain at roughly US$2.53 per entree. It isn't gourmet but one could do considerably worse on US legacy airlines. Cabin crew professional and well trained. Air Asia is not the best airline in the world, yet I believe it makes a case for being the best low cost carrier. It has an extensive network, newish and well maintained planes and cheap fares.

Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne. As I boarded I was greeted by an overpowering scent of urine which I presumed wafted in from near the aircraft. I learned during the flight the four toilets in the middle of the plane had blocked and overflowed on the previous flight, leaving the surrounding carpet including around my seat soaked in toilet fluid. Needless to say anything dropped on the floor got wet, and the stench during the flight qualified this as the worst flight in my life. Aircraft should have been taken out of service until the problem was rectified. Flying Air Asia was a first and last time experience.

Bangkok to Hong Kong. Plane developed engine failure and landed in Hanoi, Vietnam where we were herded to a lounge and kept for eight hours with no information about when we might leave. Many passengers did not take their money or belongings with them and had no food or water during this time. During that time we were sent to three different gates for take off only to be told that the plane hadn't arrived yet to take us on to Hong Kong. 8 hours later we arrived in Hong Kong in the early morning where everything had closed. No food, taxis, buses, nothing. No compensation or apologies from Air Asia whatsoever then or afterwards. I found out later that Air Asia has no complaint procedures. You write an email to a non replying address. You cannot call them and even if you go to their main terminal to complain, there is nothing you can do.
