Arrived from Kuala Lumpur almost 10 pm. Airport very charming. Saw all disembarking passengers
running towards the immigration counters. The airport staff were a bit rude when asked for
directions. Very long queues. Most of the counters were closed. Could not venture the whole airport
since it was almost midnight. Overall, very nice.

Nothing to complain about but it seems like they limit the use of English. They have just enough
basic English on the signs. In the restaurants, menus are all with Chinese, price tags also with HK
currency. It's too inconvenient for me to buy foods/drinks. Last but not least, while waiting for
boarding with United Airline, they don't know how to get passengers to stay in line.

1 April 2008 Customer Rating :
Spectacular from the outside; hugely bright, spacious, and airy inside. This space, along with the
high, curved ceilings throughout, and enormous windows that span the length and width of the all the
buildings, helps make the very crowded terminal seem far from claustrophobic. Sculptures and models,
such as the Wright flyer hung over the departure check-in counters look great. One aesthetic 'fault'
is the arguably drab gray color scheme used in T1, (as opposed to the much fresher beige one in T2)
and the lack of plants on the arrivals floor especially, do not help matters. HKIA is near-
impossible to beat in terms of its vast dining and duty-free shopping options, that are strewn
throughout the airport so it's never too long a walk from your gate to Starbucks and such. Maxims'
and Grappas are just a few of the restaurants near the check-in area. The lounges are also of top
quality. It also scores highly in terms of efficiency. After check-in (which can be done beforehand
in the Airport Express station in Central), there are sufficient customs counters and prompt but
thorough security checks to ensures lines don't get long. Everything is organized and the terminal
seems neither over nor understaffed. Comfortable seating around every gate, and all sorts of duty-
free shops nearby to kill time. Pretty much the same story for arrivals, but there's usually a
scramble to get to the small train (comes every 2 mins) that takes you to the arrival customs (if
your gate is 33 or above). Baggage claim time is reasonable, though HKIA can't quite match
Singapore's Changi Airport. Staff are generally friendly and most speak decent English; plenty of
options to get to the city, but the best would be the 90mph Airport Express that gets you to the
heart of HK within 30 mins. Overall a great, modern airport that works as well as it looks.

A wonderful advert for Hong Kong. I arrived from Bangkok last week and was clear of immigration,
customs and had picked up my baggage in 19 minutes and I was not travelling business class. A very
efficient airport all round.

Modern and spacious, with nice shops and places to eat, especially in boarding area. Spotless
toilets plus free internet wi-fi access in all areas.

An absolutely fantastic airport in every sense. Perfectly efficient, customer friendly, easily
navigable; plenty of amenities, from free internet to countless eateries to shopping venues; all in
a very roomy, airy, pleasant surrounding. It took me just an hr to go thru the customs, luggage pick
up, bus to the city and check in my hotel!

2 March 2008 Customer Rating :
From getting off the plane to getting out of the terminal only took 20 minutes. Departure was very
efficient. However, my flight was changed to a remote gate and it was my first time taking those
apron buses in Chek Lap Kok airport (HKIA). Since it was my first time taking those buses, I was
lost for 5 minutes to find a way how to get to those departure gate bus station; signs were poor for
this particular service. The new terminal 2 isn't really a terminal, but a big shopping mall with
lots of restaurants and just a few rows of check-in counters. The airport is extremely clean. One
improvement I would suggest is to put more plants and trees inside the terminal, especially the
baggage area!

25 February 2008 Customer Rating :
Whether incoming or departing, a very efficiently spacious airport, many others could follow the
example of. The only problem to me seems that several more airlines now use Terminal Two, but the
need to travel back to T1 by two trains seems pointless and a lengthy process, and a long walk to
the departure formalities. The shops and restaurants are excellent, but as previous comments, some
duty-free shops close very early, as our flight was a 00.45 departure. The ability to check in
downtown and not have the baggage on the superfast Airport Express service is an added bonus, but
does seem to mean that your luggage seems last up on the conveyor when at your home airport at least
to us.

13 January 2008 Customer Rating :
Transit through HKG on our way to SFO. Since we only had 1.5 hrs of transit time, we had planned to
shower and have a bowl of hot noodles before the next gruelling flight. A modern, pleasant and
cavernous airport, the enclosed transit security area was small with only two x-ray stands, almost
an afterthought. Unfortunately our flight coincided with another arriving plane so the line was
snaking out to the lobby area. It took us about 50 minutes just to get through leaving no time to
shower and enjoy the airport.

9 January 2008 Customer Rating :
The total time from leaving the plane, immigration, getting my luggage and take on Airport Express
just 25mins. It is a very efficient airport.

4 January 2008 Customer Rating :
We arrived along with three other flights at roughly the same time which meant mayhem waiting for
45+ minutes to pass through immigration. The attendants did not speed things by opening more
immigration gates (about 20% were not manned). Luggage took an additional 25 minutes post
immigration which meant over an hour after arrival did we depart the airport. Departure was a
similar process however only took around 30 minutes - so half the time for check in and immigration.
Plenty of distractions around the airport - wasn't sure if it was more of a shopping mall or an
airport and departure timetables need to indicate how far away gates are to ensure one is not late
for boarding. Prices are reasonable given it is an airport and the usual suspects of McDonalds etc
are available. Generally personnel in the airport are friendly although some shop assistants pushy
in terms of sales. (One bottle of cologne means one bottle!) Travelling on train from Kowloon to
Lantau very fast and efficient. Station check-in made travel easy with little carry on luggage and
not having to drag suitcase on board.

26 November 2007 Customer Rating :
The Cathay Lounge in the back is not too good - always prefer the front one. Immigration and
security done in 10 minutes- due to the new, intelligent E-channel. The signage is excellent, and
design of the terminal building is good. Terminal 2 with its 4 museums are fascinating. One small
not-too-good thing : walking in the 'spine' of the terminal is too crowded and not properly
ventilated.

26 November 2007 Customer Rating :
Fantastic airport. Excellent selection of duty free shops, restaurants offering Western and Eastern
tastes, and great coffees. Only suggestion for transiting passengers - don't by duty free liquor on
your inbound flights. You have to re-clear security when you deplane in order to get back up to the
connecting gates.

14 November 2007 Customer Rating :
Used Hong Kong airport again recently and it never fails to impress me. From landing on a Lufthansa
flight with my mother who requires a wheel chair we were through immigration, baggage collection and
arrived at our hotel in central Kowloon via the Airport Express in just over an hour.
On our departure with Air New Zealand we used the United Airlines Lounge which was surprisingly good
a limited selection of dim sum and other breakfast material was available and loads of booze. But
at 7am it was not really a temptation

12 November 2007 Customer Rating :
Chek Lap Kok has the Airport Express that whisks you into Hong Kong and Kowloon within 30 minutes.
The airport is spacious, lots of natural lighting and processing time through immigration was
excellent - many counters open. Signs were very well indicated. The departure hall is large and
spacious and modern.

1 November 2007 Customer Rating :
Came in around 6 pm which is a very busy time. HKG can be very variable, but this time lots of
immigration desks opened and staff processed us very quickly - had my bags and on the way to the hotel
within 15 minutes of landing, but we did come into gate 1 which makes a big difference in walk-time.

29 October 2007 Customer Rating :
Recently passed through HKG twice in one week. No problems either way, immigration / customs /
security etc are always going to slow you trip down, but with the current world situation this is only
to be expected. Most impressed with the check-in service at Kowloon Railway Station,
quick/efficient/cheerful, beats carrying bags to the airport any day. The Airport Express is
economical and quick (more so if you travel as a pair/couple) and is streets ahead of travelling by
taxi/coach. Lounges easy to find, food/drink selection good and finding your gate is no problem. A
lot of airports could do worse than copy HKG.

4 October 2007 Customer Rating :
Getting to and from Hong Kong Airport was easy. I took the shuttle bus outbound and the train
inbound. The airport itself seemed to be laid out well and was clean. The business class lounge was
easy to find and very welcoming. I think some of the airport authorities in the US could learn
something from the airport authority.

28 August 2007 Customer Rating :
I am biased because I worked on the New Terminal at Hong Kong, but it has to be the most efficient
airport I have used. I find it a pleasure with one exception - the Duty Free shops close too early.
Some of them are closed by 10.30pm which considering flights depart up to 1.30am seems to be a bit
ridiculous. This must be driven by the demand I suppose. Check in effortless, immigration is
efficient, baggage Reclaim is speedy and transportation connections again are as good as any -
although I noticed last year that early arrivals have to wait until 6.30am for the Airport Express to
start running.

29 July 2007 Customer Rating :
It's always a pleasant experience using Hong Kong International Airport.
This time I also have the fortune of using the Airport Express train
service. The train is fast and the In-Town Check-in Service saves the
trouble of dragging luggages around. The train is slightly expensive
(compared to the many other options available for travelling to and from
the airport), but if you're in a hurry and are willing to pay for that
extra, it's really worth the money! I only wish more airports around the
world would put in an outstanding train service like Hong Kong!

27 July 2007 Customer Rating :
Hong Kong is an entertaining airport. Our six hour stop over passsed
very quickly. Good selection of shopping and dining options. The
building is spacious and airy. If you manage to find a seat in the
resting lounge sections at the boarding gates you can even catch a free
nap or at least put your feet up for a while. The building and toilets
are spotless and constantly being cleaned. A real pleasure to transit
through.

19 July 2007 Customer Rating :
Having flown in and out of Hong Kong many times in the past years, HKIA
remains my favourite airport. With the addition of Terminal 2, it
offers plenty of dining and shopping choices. As a matter of fact, I
often found myself running late for boarding because there is so much to
see at the airport. Terminal 2 offers more dining choices than terminal
one and prices are better. Please be fore-warn that it may take a long
time to walk to boarding gates, so plan your time well.

27 June 2007 Customer Rating :
In and out of HKG - a brilliant airport concept, shining, clean and
exceptionally well maintained. Security is high and slows down the
process a bit too much, however they explain you the reason and excuse.
Departure gates are well posted and numbers are clearly visible - no
need to have A, B or X - what a healthy difference to some other
confusing airports. This airport, together with SIN and KUL is
definitely first class in South East Asia.

6 June 2007 Customer Rating :
This must rank as one of the best airports in the world, it makes
Terminal 3 at Heathrow look like a nissan hut. Hong Kong was airport was
very impressive with plenty of space, great views out and so very clean.
The check in areas were huge. There were plenty of coffee shops and
eating places where ever you were and they were all so reasonably
priced, unlike most other airports.

14 May 2007 Customer Rating :
About the 7th visit through this airport and it puts other airports to
shame. Main praise is the amount of space and fantastic eating options,
we had dim sum at the airside restaurant and it was as good as what we
had been eating downtown Hong Kong. We purchased a tourist MTR/Airport
Express card for $250 + $50 returnable deposit that gave us return
travel to Hong Kong and 4 days unlimited use on the MTR a good buy.

8 May 2007 Customer Rating :

Very nice airport. Bright and airy, nice viewing areas, many shops and
restaurants for all tastes and purses. Small minus as regards
signposting to find your gate: very long walks if you don't know about
the train linking the outer limits of the terminals. Short taxi-times
between the gates and the runways. All in all a very nice example of how
to build a 21st century airport.

24 March 2007 Customer Rating :

Fantastic airport. Very clean and modern. Arrivals was very quick. 10
mins to get through passport control and 15 mins for bag collection.
Most impressive. Departure areas full of eating places and shops as
well as lots of seating areas. Everything is well signed so finding the
gate was easy. Airport was spotless. No rubbish on the floor anywhere. A
very pleasant experience.

After hearing many great comments about HKG, we had sky-high
expectations flying in and out. Indeed, the arrivals are very
efficient, quick immigration processing, and bags arrived on time. Easy
to find the airport express. Departure was not so good. We were
tempted by the huge billboards advertising the new "Skyplaza" shopping
mall in Terminal 2, "only 3 minutes walk from here." Very deceptive.
It's more like a 10 minute walk, and it turned out only 1/2 the stores
are open. Signage there is poor and the layout is haphazard and
confusing. Then there were the signs saying you could board an
automated people mover to get to your gate from Skyplaza. We got to the
Terminal 2 security checkpoint only to find it still under construction,
so we had another long walk (now a run) back to Terminal 1 and our gate,
and we still had to pass through immigration and security. Luckily
those went pretty quick so we were able to catch our flight, barely.
Advice: don't visit the Skyplaza until all of the construction is
finished!

We were very impressed with HKIA. The airport was
spacious and beautiful. It's very clean, especially the restrooms. There were free interent stations
and wifi available (which we have to pay wifi while we were stuck in Chicago). Staff in HKIA were
friendly and helpful. I have never experienced to go through immigrations and customs in less than 5
minutes.

Stunning airport. If only they could all be like this one. As some
people have said the airport feels very spacious with the high roof and
is immaculately clean. On arrival we where pretty knackered but clearing
security took no time and the Hotellink bus service desk and octopus
card desk where easy to find. The shops on offer in the departure lounge
where very impressive, certainly the best ive seen in any airport.
I look forward to flying to Chep Lak Kok again.

Returned from Hong Kong on the 2nd/Nov. The airport is spectacular! This
was my second trip through HKG, my first was in the middle of the day
and much better experience than traveling through late at night. Apart
from the food court, almost everything shuts down just that bit too
early. Rude staff in some of the shops don't help! Some people have
complained of long waits at immigration and check in, can I strongly
urge people to make sure they have their exit form ready as this seemed
the major cause of delay in the queues around me. To avoid check in
nightmares, use the Airport Express check in at Hong Kong or Kowloon MTR
station, 100 HK$ for a speedy train might be more than the shuttle bus,
but add in the ability to spend an extra day in Hong Kong without
worrying about your bags and it's worth every cent! For those worried
about privacy, you may be interested to know that the airport is now
using RFID tags to track baggage - worked on my flight - none went
missing!

Just arrived back after a round trip LHR-HKG-LHR. What an excellent
experience. Great feeling of space. I agree though with comments below
about Airport Express. It was a bit harder finding the buses, which were
a very quick alternative to reach Central, and not much slower!

etc. Wish all could be like this!

While many people in this forum tend to think positive with Hong Kong
Int'l Airport, I know that it has one serious defect affecting visitors
to HK. Indeed the course from deplaning through customs always runs
smooth: NO FAULT, but some problem exists in the arrival hall. Most of
the arrival passengers should see big persuasive signboards of Airport
Express to Kowloon or Central. There is no signboard of City flyer, bus
services to those places. If you think the former is faster and more
convenient, it's a fallacy. At the end the latter will be the same. For
instance, if you stay at Sheraton at Kowloon, it will take 50 minutes by
either way . Please remember that Airport Express doesn't take you
direct to Sheraton. You have to take an Airport Express Shuttle bus at
Kowloon Train Station. City flyer takes you to the entrance of Sheraton
without transferring. The most important thing is fares (round trip to
Kowloon) : the former is HKD160; the latter is HKD55. Their frequencies
are the same (10-20 min. interval). It's not so bad to think again about
ground public transportation from Hong Kong Int'l Airport.

12 August 2006
Lovely big airport but one very bad problem, getting through the Transit
Stations to catch connecting flights. With only one x-ray machine and
more people looking on and organising the huge crowd's of travellers
than checking bags, getting to your next flight can take a long time and
become very tiring. From our experience you need at least one and a half
hours between connecting flights. Then the immigration counters to leave
the Airport must be close to the slowest I have come across, we had six
lanes open three plane load's of people and only two lanes open for
foreign passport holders.

It was my 6th trip arriving and departing from this airport and it is
fantastic especially having come from Heathrow. This place is clean,
looks great and unlike Heathrow the right balance of space and
retail/eating facilities. The best thing is the eating facilities great
choice and fantastic quality.

In my view, it's worth going to Asia to experience HKG airport! It is
the best airport in the world. Similar to structural design to London
Stansted, it is very airy and light and has great facilities. The
airline lounges are also very good quality, too. Transport into central
Hong Kong is simple, with the airport express train that departs from
the arrivals area. A one way trip to Kowloon costs around HKD80.
Check- in for your return flight from HKG is also possible with the 'in
town' check in at Kowloon.

Recently travelled to Chep Lap Kok (HKIA) several times on an Asian
holiday. Like with Cathay Pacific, we were very impressed with this
airport. It is spacious, roomy, modern and offers just about everything
under the sun. The catering was good, with the local HK cuisine to
Western-style restaurants and Starbucks. The impressive part was the
main shopping area - had more of the feeling that we were walking in a
mall rather than an airport terminal! Signage is clear and not
confusing. Immigration, even at peak times, is fast and efficient, with
plenty of people helping move the lines and directing you. Luggage
retrieval is fast. This was brought up by others before: at security
checks, if you put small items in a container for the X-ray machine, you
are given a number so that you can collect that basket when you've gone
through the check. Very simple idea, yet ingenious. All-in-all a very
impressive and amazing airport. Beats Changi and Schiphol by a mile!
