"a very good airport experience"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Sunshine Coast Airport (MCY) services mainly flights to Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL) with some services to Adelaide (ADL) and seasonal international services to Auckland (AKL) New Zealand. A new low cost airline will soon be operating from the airport which will make flights north to several cities in Queensland and other flights to Melbourne and regional New South Wales and regional Victoria. The airport terminal is located in Marcoola about 10 mins north of Maroochydore. Private Airport transfer services, Taxis, Ubers and public buses service the airport however the public bus system does not run a timetable that would service all arrivals or departures. Paid short term and long term parking is available with some of the long term parking having sails to provide limited protection from the elements. There is also an off-site private parking business within the airport precinct that offers secure indoor and outdoor paid parking. The terminal has Check-in counter areas for airlines at the northern end and a covered breezeway then leads to security screening and the departure area at the southern end of the terminal. The luggage carousels for arriving passengers luggage are also located at the southern end of the terminal along with rental car counters, toilets. Luggage sometimes can take a while to arrive on the carousels as it appears the incoming aircraft is unloaded and the bags for the departing flight are then loaded, before the arriving flight luggage is finally brought into the terminal and loaded onto the baggage carousel. The departure area has food outlets that sell food and drinks at the usual airport prices as well as a few shops, including a surf shop and a news agency (books newspapers etc). The northern end of the departure lounge also operates as the international departure and arrival area when the seasonal Auckland flights are operating, at other times it forms part of the domestic departure area. Gates serve both as Arrival and departure gates and their are currently no aerobridges so you will walk down stairs onto the tarmac and into the terminal. Facilities are available for disabled passengers who cannot utilise the stairs. The airport at times can be very busy especially if flights are delayed, otherwise their is plenty of seating. As most flights are coming from Sydney and Melbourne weather or other delays can have a knock on effect causing delays to outbound flights. The real advantage of using this airport is avoiding around a 1hr 30 min trip to Brisbane Airport on a good day when there are no traffic delays or accidents on the M1 to Brisbane Airport, The airport is expanding and the terminal facilities will improve as part of the expansion project. Overall a very good airport experience.

"Couldn’t wait to get out of there"

(Australia)

Not Verified | Airport was so dirty, food scraps everywhere. Bins overflowing, no hand sanitiser available. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Absolutely horrible !

"it can get crowded"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | This is a small regional airport with maybe a dozen flights a day, so maybe it does ok, but a booming population and tourism means that it can get crowded. On arrival, walk through the main hall full of departing passengers and then crowd around the tiny baggage carousel - you really have to shove people out of the way when you see your bag. On departure, check-in and security were fast (despite no self-check-in kiosks) but you then have to walk back outside to access departures, then there's a few cafes, shops and a bar in the departure hall. Prices seem even higher than normal for airports. There's an attempt at an observation deck but it has poor views and seems meant for smokers. No airbridges and you can get long walks to the plane in the unpredictable Queensland weather. Still, the airport's much more convenient for this area than Brisbane Airport, there's plenty of parking (long-term for $15 a day or even less - you can look it up on the website but the booking function doesn't seem to work), and there's a great approach over the water (probably for noise abatement) then a hard turn at 500ft to line up with the runway 30 seconds before landing.

"If it can't be provided, don't advertise it"

(Australia)

Unverified | Most things and services at this airport are good except the WIFI. I use this airport twice a week. The free WIFI is not operational. Waiting 10 minutes to log on, then dies faster than loading a single web page. Dogs could get the mail quicker than this service! The WIFI is as slow as dialup before dialup was invented. WWW used to be for waiting, waiting, waiting. Here it is NNN, nothing, nothing, nothing. If it can't be provided, don't advertise it.

Sunshine Coast Airport customer review

(Australia)

The airport is a charming little place up on the Sunshine Coast. There are only about 10 flights a day going to Sydney and Melbourne. It has recently been upgraded and expanded the gate area is much bigger and has food outlets and toilets. It opens up on to the runway and provides nice views. It's an easy airport to handle as it isn't too big to get lost in but isn't so small so as to feel cramped. The butterfly sanctuary between check-in and security (which must be walked through as it is on the pathway) is a lovely touch and provides a unique atmosphere. The ground staff are very friendly. If heading up to the Sunshine Coast it is often cheaper and quicker to fly direct rather than to Brisbane and by far it is an easier airport to use!
