"bottle of water for $4.20"

(Australia)

Not Verified |   Not too bad an experience for a small airport. Not busy so my problem at the bag drop was quickly solved. My big gripe was that we could not refill our empty water bottle at a bubble. Could not find one after checking in. We were forced to buy a bottle of water for $4.20. Yes $4.20 for 600ml of water how idiotic is that?

"A friendly and efficient airport"

(Australia)

Not Verified | I flew AirAsia into here from Kuala Lumpar. A friendly and efficient airport, the connecting bus had me in Melbourne in about the same time as to Tullamarine as there was no jerking about.

"Worst airport experience"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Worst airport experience in Australia. Long queues, incorrect baggage tagging, checked me in as a different person and worst of all, the discriminating attitude of the custom/immigration officers. Look a bit international, then you'll be a prime candidate to get abusive questions from different officers.

"quick to get through immigration"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | Avalon is a small airport outside of Melbourne. As it is small it is quite quick to get through immigration (on exit) and security. The best option is to get a bus from Southern Cross station and this helps as it meets the plane so you can get to Avalon with plenty of time. The new international departure area is big but with a few shops and a bit pricey. Not too bad with more international it may improve a bit.

"there was no help on the ground"

(Malaysia)

Not Verified | Writing on behalf of dad who called me from within the terminal. My parents took 2 hours to come out. My dad was unable to locate a trolley and there was no help on the ground. He was unable to approach anybody and he also received no help to push my mother who needed assistance with a wheelchair. He was not able to push mum who finds it hard to walk due to a knee surgery, and pull their bags. After a long wait they finally walked out as they had no choice. There is a reason for one to request for wheelchair assistance. If support cannot be provided then don't provide the service.

Melbourne Avalon Airport customer review

(Australia)

I have never experienced such strictness in regards to carry on luggage. I had not only my partners laptop bag but also my hand bag. Has anyone ever had such ridiculous money grabbing methods used on them? Not only will I never fly to Avalon, I will never fly jetstar. Very disappointed!

Melbourne Avalon Airport customer review

(Australia)

Living in Geelong this airport is great! 20 mins from my parents place and traffic is rarely a problem. Check in is quick (quicker with no bags - check in online the night before) stroll through security and a short walk onto the plane. Only criticism is that the airport is small (3 gates) and only 1 bar 1 cafe and 1 newsagents. Hopefully with the new International terminal they're cleared to build they'll upgrade the domestic terminal too!

(United States)

In my experience ground facilities showed little improvement. There is nothing to do unless you want gaming machines the food shows little imagination and is very expensive and you have to check-in long before departure. Then you have to climb up steps to the aircraft - difficult for someone with disabilities.

Melbourne Avalon Airport customer review

(Australia)

It's small and it's clean and it's easy to use. On arrival from the stairs hitting the plane door to my driving off in a hire car took me 12 mins - and that was with checked luggage. You can deal with the hire car people while waiting for your luggage and the car-hire parking spots are 30 seconds' walk from the terminal. Driving into Southern Melbourne took maybe 10 mins longer than it does from Tullamarine: it's further but the traffic's better. and you don't have to deal with the toll roads. On departure there were no queues and no delays. Food choices are limited and you have to pay for Wi-Fi access: those would be my only criticisms.

A very basic terminal. More like a tin shed with temporary stands for business counters. While it serves its purposes I hope that they improve terminal facilities and appearance given the increased levels of traffic. It can't be that hard to install proper car hire counters and have some coffee shop facilities in the arrivals section. When Albury airport has a better terminal facilities than Avalon you know it's time to improve!
