"The Palms Bar was unclean"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | The Palms Bar was unclean. Sticky table menu, Bar section sticky where ordering, Power outlets badly positioned because you can't add a usb to your plug, it's too close to the bench top. Bar seat is torn and repairs were attempted with masking tape, but then it seems nobody cared after that, it's come apart again.

“very frustrating experience”

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Darwin airport self check-in system is useless, 3 times in 1 month used the system as there are no other ways of check-in, the machines never worked properly, always something wrong, and not enough staff to assist, and the staff are not very friendly, very frustrating experience.

"Prepare for a headache!"

(Australia)

Not Verified | Prepare for a headache! Never have I been to an airport where they pump out music (with lyrics) 24/7. Having to wait in the airport for over 3 hours for a flight was bad enough, however, having to listen to someone else's taste in music for that period made it even worse. Had a slight headache when arrived, however, my headache and disposition were in a terrible way by the time we departed. It was incredibly distressing having to sit and listen. Asked if there was a 'quiet' room, however answer was no. Asked staff about the 'music' and one response was 'think of us we have to listen to it all day!'. Even complained when the lounge opened and I could escape it for an hour.

"it is quite relaxed with short queues"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Departed and arrived at Darwin on an international flight from Dili, Timor Leste. As we were the only flight out and then back in (an Airnorth Embraer 170 seating 76 passengers) we had the international part of the airport to ourselves. Darwin Airport has been refurbished over the last couple of years and is now a mid-sized regional airport with good facilities. There are two times of day (around 11 am to 1.30 pm and 11 pm to 1.30 am) when (due to the peculiarities of Australian airport curfews down south) Darwin Airport is very busy. But it still copes. Outside these hours it is quite relaxed with short queues. I find the ground staff and even security to be polite, efficient and even cheerful; and there is an adequate range of food and shopping outlets. Virgin and Qantas have good lounges in the domestic section of the airport; there is a small pay-lounge once you have gone through passport controls, and the usual nonsense of the obstacle course of an overpriced duty free shop blocking the way between immigration and the departure lounge. On this occasion (as previously) from checking in to the departure lounge took about twenty minutes, and a similar amount of time between landing and catching a taxi.

"no hassles or problems"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | A relatively large regional airport for a small town. However, Darwin is the state capital of Northern Territory. We checked in for the flight, went through security and then waited for the flight to depart. There were no hassles or problems. Everything went smoothly.

"there are plenty of seats"

(Australia)

Verified Review | Darwin Airport is a small to mid-sized airport. It has limited food options during the off peak times of the day, but is sufficient enough. There are plenty of seats to wait on before boarding, and the maximum time taken through security is about 15 minutes.

"worst experience at an airport"

(Australia)

Why such aggressive security procedures by airport staff for entry to transit lounge, including targeting individuals in line for special scrutiny and confiscating water provided by airline. Worst experience at an airport. Almost missed getting back on plane on time - Ridiculous!

Darwin Airport customer review

(Australia)

Arrived at airport to find very little assistance and no check-in staff available despite mid afternoon time. Upstairs in departure lounges are old cracked dirty and missing pieces of vinyl. No bar facilities available again despite mid afternoon time and crowds of people in the lounge area. Very poorly sign posted. Nil star rating if that was possible!

Darwin Airport customer review

(Australia)

I arrived here on a Jetstar flight from Brisbane with my 85 year old mother who needed a wheelchair. This latter was provided by Jetstar but then we were on our own to travel from the plane to the baggage area not an easy task as signage was almost non-existent and some doors along the way were locked necessitating a rather anxious wait until an official with a key card arrived. The only lift in the main area of the terminal was broken down although there was no sign about this just a loose flapping internal wall that was evident when the doors opened. This discouraged all users including us. In the end we ditched the wheelchair and proceeded slowly down the escalator. There was a total lack of information signage or assistance of any kind in this outdated dirty terminal. I intend to avoid this airport in future.

International area of terminal to catch a domestic flight to Cairns flight originated in Singapore. There were only 2 flights leaving our A321 plus a flight to Dili. Seating area was full to capacity. Male toilets completely inadequate for number of people. It was early in the morning approx 5am the coffee shop was open but the only other shop (newsagent) was closed.
