Athens Airport

Athens Airport must be the only Airport in the world that has more places for smoking than for non-smoking. The moment you enter the airport you can smell/see cigarette smoke.

Clean and efficient. Check-in takes only a few seconds. However sometimes there are queues at passport control from Schengen to non-Schengen area (towards gates numbered A). A variety of food options which maybe could afford a little more space but obviously shopping is a priority. Not a beautiful building but it is functional and one does not feel uncomfortable in it. The only thing I don't really like is having to pay for baggage trolleys. Overall Athens airport is not bad!

Check in went fast with friendly staff. Well connected with majors parts of Athens like Sytagma or the intercity bus stations (ktel) and surrounding towns. by any mean of transportation (like bus train or metro). Use time waiting for a flight by visiting the small museum and the chapel both located in the second floor. Good variety of shops and cafes - not too overpriced. On the other hand they should announce at least boarding or last calls. They use to do it before I wonder why they stopped.

Transited through the airport there and every time I get the same good experience with clean waiting areas and enough seating space and good variety of shops available both before and after security in addition to being well maintained. The staff are helpful every time although they don't always smile but at the end of a stressful day I suppose this is not always easy. What I don't like though are the high temperatures inside the terminal sometimes I just felt so warm that I had to go out and take some fresh air while waiting for my connecting flight. All in all the airport of Athens offers good quality and always a nice experience flying through this airport.

Very spacious clean and despite the criticism of its architecture the interior has an ultra-modern design. And lots of light. It does not have a huge selection of restaurants but it certainly has more (and better quality) restaurants than much larger airports. The shopping/dining area is large relative to the main terminal's small size. I have never experienced long ques at this aiport. Distance from Athens city center is not that big.

Better than I expected. Arrival was OK. The immigration officers were efficient. But had to wait nearly 40 minutes by the conveyor belt to get my checked-in luggage. The public transportation to the city was well- organized. Used it again for departure. I arrived 3 hours before my scheduled flight. Big mistake. They didn't have enough chairs for to spend my 3 hours before departure while they didn't let me enter the departure lounge before 1 hour prior to my scheduled flight. he shops were ok. One note for the tourists looking for souvenirs: buy them at the airport because the prices there are actually cheaper than anywhere else in Greece.
