Newcastle Airport

I arrived at 10.15 on the 28/04/2015 on flight KL 957 and was on my way home at 10.30. This was very good service.

Where do I start. 1) Surly attitude by security - we are just human beings be polite and smile. 2) The Flying Hippo - way overpriced and again service without a smile - took ages coming to the table and then didn't care - it's as if they think service doesn't matter because the customer is just passing through - well it does because we have many airport choices and Newcastle is letting itself down. 3) Where's the general seating? So little of it that people sat in the bar and cafe only to be told off - sorry for paying my airport charges (via my airline) - perhaps I should have checked you had sufficient seating! Thumbs down Newcastle you're letting the North East down.

What on earth is Newcastle airport playing at. The food in the food hall is all pre packaged all expensive and bland. bring back The Eagle bar! Few seats for people who do not wish to eat or drink. Rude staff asking passengers to move if not eating. Heard loads of complaints whilst waiting for plane about lack of seating quality of food on offer etc and there were no notices as far as I could see for end plans. Hopefully there will be provision made for more than pre packaged meal outlets.

No qualms about Newcastle airport I like smaller airports and while the airport is undergoing some refurbishment it did not interfere with a smooth transfer through to departures. Sadly my gripe with this airport is with the quality of the food in one the bars: it was overpriced and inedible in fact the buns were freezing cold and the pulled pork was cold and disgusting. The Caesar salad comprised of lettuce and anchovies no dressing or other salad items. I wish they had the smiley/grumpy faces for satisfaction outside of food outlets this place would definitely had most grumpy possible. I hope the catering managers can address this issue soon.

Unbelievably high car parking fees for short stay alone no seating for waiting passengers unless you pay for a meal at one of the eateries appallingly loud music making the terminal waiting areas sound like a holiday club - I guess this serves the needs of the package holiday clientele that this airport serves queues at security queues at border security. Just plain awful! Goodness knows what non-package holiday passengers will think arriving/departing from/to international destinations. It's one step up from a cattle shed. Come let's have a regional airport that attracts people to the region take a look at a Billund in Denmark. It was a small provincial airport and then invested with a long term view and strategy to support the economy and passengers passing through its terminal.

Even though we live 12 miles from Newcastle we normally fly from Leeds due to silly flight prices from Newcastle but flew with jet2 (who were very good) 10 days ago. We were surprised at the obvious lack of public seating available as all space seems to be franchised off to food/drink outlets who do expect you to make a purchase. We were even turned away from the "breakfast area as we only required tea/coffee.

Terrible airport understaffed fly at least 3 times a year from here but service never improves. 25 mins for steps to arrive 25 mins through passport control 45 mins for case to arrive 30 mins for bus back to car park. I could have flew to Spain in the time it takes to get out of Newcastle Airport.

At last an updated version of information of flights has been introduced. It's taken a long time but is now much more informative. Queuing times continue to improve at security. All in all the airport provides a good service.

Improved security since my last visit resulting in a much quicker process. Improved eating and bar facilities though on my last visit the bar was so full that it was impossible to get a drink! Cleanliness of the airport has improved beyond measure. The PA system is still very poor with inaudible announcements.

Due to fear of flying my 12 yr old son did not board a flight to Faro so we all missed our flight. However the airport and Easyjet staff were all superb helped us rearrange flights and were very understanding. Consequently we did successfully all get away on holiday. This was customer care at its best.
