"got through passport control 2.5 hours later"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived at Luton at 8 pm to meet relative from Croatia. She eventually got through passport control 2.5 hours later along with hundreds of other tired travellers. There were no announcements, no staff to ask at all, and no toilet paper in any of the women's toilets. I had to buy tissues from the shop. Apparently there were insufficient staff on the passport control desks and they made no announcements at all or apologised to passengers for the delay. The car parking was chaotic and a disgrace. Building new developments is no excuse for this. We would never travel from here and airlines need to take responsibility for taking up passengers distress and concerns.

"increased flights but not facilities"

(United Kingdom)

I travel a lot with work and Luton is the worst airport I have ever used. On arrival huge queues to get into the drop off area which the airport then had to nerve to charge £2.50 for. Security is slow and queues are 15 minutes to get through. Once through nowhere to sit and poor restaurants. You are then made to queue for easyJet flights even though the plane has not arrived. 2 hour delay coming back from Amsterdam with easyJet due to handling issues at Luton and the airline could not catch up the time. Once landed we had to wait as there was no gate available to off load us. Once off there was total chaos in passport control and I queued for 1 hour 15 mins. No contol of queue, no air conditioning. E passport gates were a waste of time as the queue was just as big for this. A massive queue to pay for the car park and car park totally full and chaos. This is an airport which has increased flights but not facilities - avoid if you can and go from Heathrow, Birmingham or Gatwick.

"sworn never to fly from Luton again"

(United Kingdom)

We booked meet and greet parking at Luton airport. Phoned from baggage reclaim, then waited for nearly 2 hours in the pouring rain. We could not get any information apart from engaged phones or bland reassurances that our car was "on the way". There were around 30 people waiting and someone who could check his car remotely could clearly see that it was parked and locked despite being told several times that it was on the road. We finally got home soaked at 4am rather than the 12:30 we expected. We thought we were getting an official airport service as it was listed on the aiport parking website. It seems there are actually several small companies running from a corner of the short stay car park in competition with each other. It is hard to imagine that the airport takes any interest in the quality of the service. This was the worst airport and worst service we have ever known. We have sworn never to fly from Luton or use their meet and greet services ever again.

"this airport is dysfunctional"

(United Kingdom)

There are over 50 check in desks at Luton airport and only 2 active delivery belts in luggage reclaim - this airport is dysfunctional. I had to wait a full 60 minutes for a single suitcase. The arrivals were not busy, the hall was only a quarter full, but the belt was shared with 4 other flights all of which were given priority over our Monarch flight. Departure 6 days before was also a truly horrible experience. The dreary traffic queue from the permanently blocked Ibis roundabout to "drop-off" took 20 minutes. The tedious uncovered pot holed walk to Check-in took 5 minutes. The security hall meat market atmosphere, which is beyond what any human being should have to tolerate took 30 minutes. The departure lounge with nowhere to sit - I spent 50 minutes. The dreary and endless walk up unpainted corridors, down lino-ripped stairs to the departure gate took 20 minutes. A bus journey to a plane parked 100 metres away took 25 minutes. I'm finished with this cottage industry of gross incompetence.

"going from bad to worse"

(United Kingdom)

Luton airport is going from bad to worse. Disgraceful waiting over an hour for passport control. How can this possibly happen in a modern British airport? And it's not the first time. The bus service to the station is totally inadequate and is operated by surly rude staff who don't care. Terrible place.

"lack of staff was outrageous"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived at Luton airport after a 2h delay from Debrecen and had to stand in a very long queue before I entered the terminal building. The queue for passport control was moving slowly and there was no air ventilation. The lack of staff was outrageous, as there was no one to guide us through, to keep the queue lines in proper order and, so, after that 2h flight delay, I've wasted another 2h in the airport itself. The baggage carousels were a mess, luggage all over the floor, the screens that are supposed to show flight information were not working properly. Totally unprofessional.

"parking and seating is inadequate"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | Appalling greed - too many flights that lead to massive hour long queues in passport control. Parking and seating is inadequate for the volume of passengers and no opportunity is missed to charge for even a modest level of service. Use Heathrow if possible.

"improvement needed urgently"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived at Luton airport after a 2 hour delay on EZY2426 from Lyon to find the immigration hall absolutely packed full of people. The lines were not clear, leaving people confused and overwhelmed by how disorganised the system is e.g no clear signs indicating children can't access the e-gates. Staff were available, however they were not particularly useful considering the volume of people that continued to arrive on flights. A larger immigration hall is without a doubt needed, including more staff on duty and air conditioning, absolutely appalling. Never thought i'd have to wait 45 minutes to re-gain access to my own country, especially when Heathrow and Gatwick are consistently excellent despite having significantly larger passenger numbers. Improvement needed urgently, avoid arriving at this airport if you can.

"an absolute nightmare"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived at Luton on time at 8pm on a Sunday so a busy time. A short delay to leave the plane, but not excessive - so far so good. A brisk walk suddenly came to an abrupt halt - no apparent reason and passengers from other planes piling up behind us. We slowly start moving forwards through a door then down a flight of stairs - everyone jostling to get forward with carry on bags carried or pulled. Some passengers using sticks as unsteady on their feet - if anyone stumbled or fell it could start a massive accident. The reason for this queue? UK Border Force - the hall was full to bursting and not all the desks had officers at them. One officer was somewhere in the middle of this checking if people had the right passports to use the auto gates (would have been more use at a desk processing passengers). An absolute nightmare.

"lack of staff"

(United Kingdom)

Arrived home from Spain on Friday evening at 20.35, over an hour and a half to get through border control due to massive queues caused by the lack of staff manning the booths, when will the airport wake up and smell the coffee and realise that the peak time for arrivals in on a Friday night, they want the extra flights but do not put the resources in place to cope with the volume of passengers. They can't use the excuse that airport is having a refurb because 4 years ago I came back from Nice on a Sunday night and queued for 2 hours to get through passport control, we had to queue in an airless corridor with no ventilation apart from a couple of portable fans which did nothing. Then if that wasn't bad enough the baggage carousel had a problem had to wait ages for bags to come off. Bearing in mind I live only 5 mins away from airport I walked in my house at 23.05, over 2.5 hours later after landing. Also in the departure lounge there is only one half decent restaurant (if you call Frankie and Bennie's half decent) that is, people's trips whether for business or pleasure are getting ruined because of this airport's total lack of efficiency. Come on Luton sort it out.
