London Stansted Airport customer review

I flew out to Cork and will never use this airport again. Agree with all of the negative comments and it was hell on earth there! When I went through security I had to remove wedding rings earrings watch etc. I am used to having to remove items of jewellery and don't normally object to this. I told them my bracelet would not come off as has been on my wrist since I was 10 years old. It was obvious that's what was beeping but the lady insisted on searching me 3 times. Very undignified and unnecessary. My partner and I found a seat in Starbucks and stayed there until our flight was due to leave. Coming home we walked straight through no body there to even glance at passports. Meet and Greet found our car but others were not so lucky. Pleased to escape!

Worst airport by far extremely overcrowded which means you have to queue for everything for at least 15-20 minutes including the toilet. Also Stansted long stay car park is overpriced and the most disorganised parking I have ever seen had to wait 30 minutes for the bus then eventually told the bus could not get to the stop so had to walk 10 minutes to the bus then stand on an overcrowded bus clinging on as it travelled 15 minutes to the car park round several roundabouts! Absolute chaos from start to finish.

What a shambles! Having experienced Manchester Airport (who own Stansted) I was optimistic about security queues efficient M&G car parking. However there were only 4 security desks open. One waits in a scruffy waiting area before the gate information appears and this leaves you with a very long hike with seemingly little time. Passport queues on return (June 3rd) were farcical with the e-passport machines being temperamental. My car's radio had been re-tuned. The driver's seat was covered in hairs. The airport desperately needs two terminals. I wish I could meet an airport Director and take him/her on a walk and give a commentary on what I witnessed and experienced. He/she would be ashamed.

Just returned from Dublin to London Stansted on 2 June at apx 5pm. Our flight contained many nationalities as was obvious from overheard conversations. I was amazed to find no passport control in use! No staff present! Everyone just walked straight through! It's reassuring to know how efficient border control is - not! Border control yesterday was a joke!

30/5/15. Arrived back in the UK and had to queue for the train to the terminal explained as planned work and a two carriage train will be the next one as you can imagine this was absolutely filled to capacity as everyone pushing to get on. Then the hell of passport control and an hours queue due to travelling with under eighteen's as they cannot use the e-gates. The desks available were not fully manned which caused excessive queue time as appalling staffing levels. All the technology in the world and cannot plan for passenger numbers. Surely they know how many planes/ passengers are arriving it's beyond belief that an organisation can be run so inefficiently and get away with it. The staff are not overly helpful customer focussed or know how to treat people with common courtesy. Queues were the same when returning to Stansted in February. Will use a different airport in future due to the complete chaos.

I flew from Stansted airport recently a week ago to be exact and can honestly say the place is a pit. All I can say is avoid. The beautiful building Norman Foster designed and laid out is now nothing more than a Northern Supermarket look-a-likey with swinging signs hanging from the ceiling in check-in areas which may as well say "beans half price" as they actually relate to nothing in the building. There is also a passenger entry system to security which is just about as hidden as the secret garden whoever designed that needs to go back to design school who actually paces a key entry point in a corner hidden behind a wall. Once through check-in the departure lounge has very little seating and does not instil the wish to shop. I travelled with my young family and the experience we had trying to seat eat and enjoy was poor. Boarding the mono rail from the departure lounge is nothing more than a serious accident waiting to happen. With all flights being called at once the rush was mad. I have saved the best till last security - what a farce. Rude staff and slow processes make for a very poor experience. As you can see the worst part of my break was the airport experience its not hard to get it right. Unfortunately Stansted you have a long way to go to win back my custom and get it right.

30/5/15. Know when you are back in the UK - first had to queue and wait for a train to the terminal building. Then the hell of passport control queuing to get through not helped by having just 4 desks open and a plane full of passengers just wanting to get home nor being able to take children (16 & 11) through the E gates. What is the point of issuing e-passports if they cannot use them. Also not helped by the lack of customer service skills by the staff who said to a sixteen year old "Oi mate are you eighteen" when going to the e-gates. Took an hour to get through-unacceptable. Why are the desk not fully manned as they know how many passengers/planes are landing? Fully appreciate the need for security but this should not be at the expense of customer service. Also queued in February so looks as though an ongoing issue.

It is hard to believe an airport like this is allowed to operate as it does. It is clear that this airport is the result of saving money at the cost of any customer service or customer facilities. There are hardly enough seats for anyone to sit at a peak time the seats are uncomfortable and this is specifically designed this way so you will visit one of their many restaurants which also are the only places where there are any outlets to charge your devices. On top of this rude tactic to bring in customers they have their reserved area which costs 25 pounds to go in just for the time you are there which is ridiculous. There are plenty of more seats and shops near the gates however they don't inform you of which gate you are at until just before your flight time. Because of all of these things I will never use Stansted Airport again if I ever fly again and it runs the chance of going through there I would gladly pay triple to avoid it.

Coming back a few days ago at 4.30pm the queues for immigration were horrendous and there was a loud collective groan from passengers alighting from the shuttle train. The queues for E-passports went on and on and it took 45 minutes and for the non-E passports it took about 55. Needless to say not all the booths were manned and the attitude of the Border Control staff (or whatever they call themselves nowadays) was dismissive and downright rude. When I complained and said that this was unacceptable and that there should at least be separate queues for older people or families with children or those with claustrophobia three bored-looking immigration staff watching the endless queue at E-passoprt control one of them (whilst chewing gum) said 'Ave you gotta problem mate with this?' and the other said 'well it's busy aint it!' and looked at me as if to say how dare I complain. So that's alright then! Stansted at busy times of the day is a disaster at security check-in and a disaster at arrivals immigration (and they are hoping for long-haul Thomson Dreamliners stuffed to the gills in the near future. Despair at what used to be a pleasant airport.

I've always been under the impression that airports have some future visibility of the likely passenger numbers passing through passport control on any given day/time. Apparently this isn't the case as there surely can be no other reason why immigration is the shambolic de-humanising farce that it is. Interminably long meandering queues with virtually no staff visible. Lines of tired hot aggravated and in some cases confused passengers trying to get out of this awful awful airport getting frustrated and demoralised. I reckoned there were upwards of 800 maybe 1000 people being herded at 8pm on a Wednesday. For international flights I will do everything I can to avoid this soul destroying place.
