"2h 30m flight, 2h to get out of the airport"
J Keene (United Kingdom)
Departure for our holiday from London Gatwick wasn't too bad, we had an early flight to Faro at 06:00. However, coming back was horrible and I've gone right off Gatwick after today. Not impressed with the passport machines and the queues - a 2 hour 30 min flight but 2 hours to get out of the airport. Parking charges were disgusting and 30 minutes to get out of the car park, only to find the barriers were on free exit - i'm guessing because it was so busy and they cannot cope.

"signage is poor"
N Williams (United Kingdom)
Gatwick should not be contemplating and campaigning for a second runway when they can barely handle the passengers using a single runway. This airport is dirty, especially the toilets, the signage is poor, there are always long queues at Immigration, there are hardly any decent places to eat or drink and the car parks are a shambles. Extremely poor management.

"messy and full of remedial works"
J Tydeman (United Kingdom)
London Gatwick is messy and full of remedial works. The layout of the gates mean you end up with lots of queues for different flights merging and plenty of confusion. There are far too few eateries for an airport of this size, certainly in South terminal, and even in the place we ate, the staff were bemoaning the massive queues. I find it highly amusing that this airport is even contemplating competing with Heathrow. A high percentage of it is bucket and spade holidays in the Med and low cost weekend breakers. The food we ate was quite nice but incredibly expensive (captive audience) and the shops are, like most airports, really expensive versions of stuff you can find on the high street or online

"what a disgrace"
Robyn Bartlett (Australia)
One person on duty at immigration for non EU passports causing far too long a wait. A couple of other officers on duty who came and went. What a disgrace for tourists entering the UK. Over one hour to wait in a queue. Better warn whoever is picking you up. Shame on you Gatwick Airport. Gloomy place, too. Avoid if you can.

"shortage of staff"
Janet Doggett (United Kingdom)
We waited nearly an hour to pass through the passport machines, the queues were terrible. Once someone had the common sense to open more machines it improved slightly although there are no instructions until you actually get inside the area. I guess a shortage of staff is responsible for the delay as the machines have to be monitored by someone as no one seems to understand how they work. Even when you get to the machine it doesn't tell you clearly which way to put your passport in. There were a lot of elderly passengers and young children in the queue, maybe you need a third option to get them through quickly before someone collapses. We all want to feel safe when we travel but I do think you have a duty of care to the pubic and treating them like a herd of cattle is not acceptable. Passenger returning from Alicante, June 9th at 6pm.

"75 minutes from landing to exit"
Esperanza Freeman (United Kingdom)
✅ Verified Review | I am 72 yearS old and have used Gatwick for well over 30 years. It was always a good facility, even though there is much more walking involved than most other airports I use. In the last couple of years it has deteriorated significantly. Yesterday I arrived at North Terminal from Barcelona and had to walk much further than normal due to building works. It took 75 minutes from landing to get to the exit and I was worried that I was going to pass out due to the distances, stairs and need to carry my hand baggage. The airport was dirty, had poorly signed detours to avoid building works and even worse there was no sign of anyone to advise or help despite the arrival being at 7:00 pm. What has happened to what was once a model airport?

"2 hours to clear immigration"
Frederick Lam (Canada)
Arriving into London Gatwick from Rome around 3:15pm and we had to wait for about 2 hours to clear immigration. This is totally ridiculous. Been to quite a few large international airports including London Heathrow and never had such bad experience. Immigration officers were too busy talking to each other instead of attending to the travellers. Never again.

"immigration had a 1 hour wait"
Marc Dennis (United Kingdom)
Grumpy staff at London Gatwick. Long walks on departure down dark corridors and arriving is even worse with long walks back to the terminal. Immigration had a 1 hour wait - which is a disgrace for UK/Europe passport holders after a 9 hour flight. It took 2 hours to get out of the airport. I hate Gatwick but there are no flights from Heathrow to where we go.

"a poor quality airport"
M Parson (United Kingdom)
London Gatwick is a poor quality airport. Departure lounges always overcrowded. Never enough staff at immigration and on arrival had to wait in the queues for an hour. I don't know how they can justify competing or being an alternative to LHR for the additional runway capacity.

"toilet hygiene appalling"
Paula Johnston (United Kingdom)
I travel from Gatwick airport very often and I always find the toilet hygiene appalling and in the last couple of years I noticed it got worse. What is the point of spending so much money renovating the facilities but not bothering to keep them clean? Another inconvenience is the WiFi - I travel on business a lot and always struggle with the WiFi connection. How can they expect another runway in these conditions? These and another minor points make Gatwick unpractical choice for me to travel from and hopefully they will resolve these issues soon.
