Liverpool Airport customer review

(United Kingdom)

I flew two return flights from Liverpool this summer and found the airport easy to use with no problems or hold ups. I used the airport for no other purpose than as a walk through to my plane. I am not interested in any of its extra facilities and I timed it perfectly so the transition was smooth. My advice: its not a leisure park after all and does not pretend to be first class in anyway. Walk in show your pass put your bag on the tray and you are straight through.

I love my city I hate my city Airport. Will somebody sort out the attitude of security and immigration staff. Everybody agrees the airport is shabby often dirty poorly designed and resembling a portacabin. But customer service does not require a rebuild. If you are lucky security can be incredibly quick or take an hour! Surely there are some regulations about this. Heathrow provide free plastic bags for passengers who haven't packed their toiletries correctly Liverpool charge. And the fast lane fee of £4 for passing security is a joke. Why would you need a fast lane if you could get through in 10 minutes?

This airport is probably the worst I've travelled through. The facilities were of a low quality it is built out of portacabins for the gates and in these the toilets are actually visible from the seating area outside. The seating areas were small very dark general cleanliness was poor tables in the food outlets were not cleaned airport is too small for the number of passengers security was very slow passport control on the return was a sham and not very fast or organised baggage return took over 30 minutes to get the line running to start returning bags. I will not be using this Airport again.

This is my preferred airport for quick efficient service. On arrival I can be in my car within 15 minutes of arrival. More destinations needed please.

Dreadful airports firstly the outward flight (the airlines are not to blame they try to run smoothly as the airport will allow) security checks are conducted by over zealous control freaks with no initiative to open more sections. Waiting to board the flight we were kept in a steel tube for over 30 minutes the heat reached over 50C I took my son and walked to the front of the line. Inbound flight Madrid airport were quick and very professional - a real international airport. Landed and proceeded to security two lines EU and non EU my wife is non EU so we went to that line which had 5 people in it the EU line was ridicules. The staff then proceeded to stop the non EU line when I complained I was told they had priority due to children being the line my son was crying in my arms when they gave me this pitiful excuse. In took 90 minutes to pass through with the carousel at the baggage collection stopped with only a few bags waiting. The message this is giving to tourists from non EU countries is very bad and does not promote a good image for the British tourist industry it needs to be addressed.

Flew from Liverpool on 19th June returning to Belfast from there on 26th. I have departed from most UK airports and plenty on the continent using the same clear plastic bag for liquids but according to the security staff at Liverpool the bag was too big! Had to purchase 4 of their bags for 1. On the return trip I placed my items in the "Liverpool approved" bag inside my usual bag - the security searcher said "that's ok you have the proper size bag inside the outsized one" I told him they were the only airport had a problem. He responded "at least you know you are safe here"! Good to know having a tiny see-through bag makes all the difference!

Travelled through Liverpool Airport yesterday as I do every year to go to the Isle of Man. Its a typical budget airline airport. Not enough seats the ones they do have are dirty and ripped. Gates are basically Porta-cabins with no air bridges. The whole airport is designed to extract as much money out of you as possible. They have a special security lane at an extra cost of course! Thankfully no one uses it.

Fly regularly from Liverpool for short haul as it is closest to where I live it saddens me that they cannot seem to find much in the way of expansion with new airlines but it is easy to see why the airlines choose Manchester. Liverpool has let itself go dirty toilets and facilities overall the overall building looks very tired. If flying with Ryanair you board via temporary portacabins however these "temporary" areas have been there for years! I flew out of there last month at 06.50 the bar area was filthy obviously tables had not been wiped from the day before and glasses on tables whilst the bar lady sat behind the bar eating her breakfast! Whilst Servisair is a huge company operating in many airports the attitude of those at Liverpool is completely different I waited to board and watched as the staff were sitting on the floor chatting! Such a shame that they cannot get it right whilst Manchester seems to tick all of the boxes.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport has the rudest staff I have encountered in any airport I have visited. From the female member of Flybe staff who provided us with the least-welcoming check in experience I have ever had (she didn't even point us in the direction of departures) to the male manager of the Burger King who I witnessed being extremely rude to a foreign lady who was struggling to order in broken English I didn't receive so much as a smile from anyone the whole time I was going through. It was a bank holiday when we went through the airport - and didn't we know it. We were made to feel like a complete burden to these oh-so-important members of staff. To add to this mess the toilets were a disgrace and smelt. Security were predictably dour and again just plain rude. If you can avoid Liverpool Airport do so. Manchester is just down the road and in my experience the staff there are much more professional. Liverpool's staff just seem to be a bunch of amateurs and did not make me feel confident about getting on a plane supported by them at all.

This is an awful airport to get to via public transport. There is a pervasive atmosphere of neglect and understaffing throughout. Security staff are the rudest I have encountered. Gate areas are more like human holding pens. It can be difficult to identify whether it is the public toilets or the carpets which are more offensive to one's nostrils. The whole raison d'être of Liverpool was low cost small convenient quick and easy to pass through but it now fails on all points. In summary grubby tired and cheap. If there were a race to the bottom Liverpool Airport has excelled.
