Koh Samui Airport

Very stress free airport probably the most stress free in the world ! It's such a pretty place for an airport. Our bags were on the belt within 10 mins of us landing and we were out of the airport and off to our hotel within 20 mins. On way back same stress free experience the courtesy corner is a very nice touch too.

Very picturesque as it is set in a tropical setting with the runway overlooked by a Buddhist temple. Arrivals - luggage arrived in a few minutes out of the airport in 15 minutes after arrival. Just make sure that you barter the price for a taxi (as you would anywhere in Thailand) and remember that if the taxi driver offers to show you accomodation they are probably operating on a commission basis from one of the hotels. Return - check in very quick. You walk straight up to security. Walked through the new shopping street which is very nice (although by Thai standards very expensive). The terminal is barley recognisable as a "terminal". Like a huge group of beach huts linked by bridges over streams. Bangkok airways have large seating area best lounge ever with huge seats and you walk up to gate. Not an airbridge in sight.

A beautiful airport with very friendly personnel. Baggage took just a few minutes to arrive after we deplaned. When we left we were transferring from Bangkok Airways to Lufthansa and they checked our baggage all the way thru. Cool juice drinks are offered (free) at the departure area as well as snacks.

There are about 4 or 5 domestic terminals and a couple of international. But it's still very nice open and different. They are building some up market shops around there and a "Boutique Hotel" so it's geared up for the money that's in Samui now! Bangkok Airways own the airport that meant only Bangkok Airways could land but now they have firefly from Penang and from Feb Thai Airways will be flying twice a day to Samui from Bangkok.

It was a pleasure to arrive in Samui Airport - the most beautiful airport in the world and fascinating how simple it is in this Hi-Tech age. I do hope it keeps its tropical look and feel.

I agree with most comments - Koh Samui airport the most picturesque in the world. So quaint been here many times. Relatively small but quite organised and the gardens are beautiful.

Samui Airport is indeed the quaintest most picturesque and most relaxed in the world. I hope it will not have to change too radically in the near future catering as it will have to with yet more flights. They start arriving at 5.55 am as I know to my cost staying just underneath the flightpath near Big Buddha! Very impressed with all the facilities on offer; even a free buffet service for all passengers in the thatched Terminal building prior to the final informal call!

What a unique pleasant airport. I agree with the previous comment about the road in and out of the airport. The road is so small. The road can't handle more than two flight-load of in a same 30-minute time frame. Those two flights mean Boeing 717 or ATR 72 type of planes. When Bangkok Airways starts to fly A320 into this airport this could bring chaos.

Lovely airport which blends perfectly with the tropical scenery. Basically its just a few wooden/grass roofs with a nice arrangement of canvas chairs and tables. Very relaxed atmosphere transport from and to the plane is by small and nicely painted electric wagons. As far as security is concerned it's fairly standard procedure. They do scan the baggage on entering the departure area but that's all. Connection to/from the main road could need some improvement though.

Have just returned from Koh Samui what a lovely place. Our first impression of this beautiful island was the airport. Unbelievable. There are no walls it is all open and so beautiful. We were so warmly welcomed delivered to the main terminal by open transport vehicle and directed accordingly. The grounds are well maintained and it is a perfect start to your holiday.
