"departure seating looks like your living room"

(Slovenia)

Koh Samui Airport is one of the cutest airports in the world. The shuttle from the airplane to the terminal building is a little train (that looks like you are in an amusement park). Children loved it! Arrival hall is very small, they have only one luggage belt, but you get your luggage in no time. Toilets in the arrival hall are very clean and nice. The departure hall is very open, we used the check in counter for families, which is very convenient. The departure area is a bungalow with the children's playground. The departure seating looks like your living room. They also give you complimentary snack and drinks in the departure area before you enter your gate. Very nice, it is a pleasure to use the Samui Airport with children.

It's not too big and also not to small it just fits as the regional hub which also include international flights to Hong Kong Kula Lumpur and Singapore. First impression are those blissful buildings I've to say that at first I was quite worried about the heat (because it's open-air) but when I arrived it wasn't that hot. Last but not least Samui airport also has a shopping area for last-minute items! I flew Bangkok Airways so lounges are available for everyone.

The most relaxed and client-friendly airport we (family with two daughters) have ever been! While waiting for our plane to BKK the ground stewardess of Bangkok Airlines comes to you to check your boarding passes. Free buffet with soft drinks coffee tea small bites etc for every-one. Good prices and perfectly clean - free - bathrooms.

Compared to many small airports in Asia USM is superb. Off loading of the aircraft is very quick and luggage appears rapidly. The only bottleneck is if you arrive internationally behind another international flight then immigration can take 45 minutes. There are many transport options once you have exited the terminal. Leaving the airport the check-in area is clean and large and quite quick. You then have a 200m walk to the gate and security area but this is down a main street that is filled with shops and eating places. I suggest you spend time here as there is very little at the gates. Once in the gate area there are free drinks and snacks smoking area toilets and the such like. Boarding is easy and efficient as the small trolley buses used to take you to the aircraft split the loading in to small groups. Overall on the best airports around - but be aware - it's all out doors and so quite warm - there are fans and a/c units but stay in light clothing and change on the aircraft if you have to.

One the only airports in the world being stress free even if during peak tourist seasons lines can be somehow longer we did not have to wait for more than a few minutes . Arrival and departure procedures are easy here and service is fast . After security checks a lounge is available for all passengers with complimentary soft drinks coffee and cake fruit and or some other nacks are usually also available. Plenty of sofas available.

After check-in there is an unavoidable open air walk of at least 200 metres to get from the check-in area to the departure lounges - too hot if it is not raining potentially very wet if it is raining. The waiting areas (except for the business class lounge) are open air and therefore not air-conditioned - again very hot and sticky. The transfers to the plane are in open sided buggy type vehicles. Finally with no airbridges the walk from the buggy and up the steps to the plane can be dangerous on the slippery metal steps. At arrivals the walkway to the taxi pick-up area is at least covered so you might not get wet but there as others have reported you will get ripped off by the local taxi mafia - best book a hotel pick up.

This is a really pretty little airport. It is all open-air and appears to be constructed out of local materials such as palm tree trunks. You are taken from your plane to the terminal by means of an adapted golf cart or tourist-train type vehicle. You then transit quickly out where you will find it hard not to pay an extortionate amount of money for your taxi ride. Barter with them - although they may be smiling and laughing these are hard-nosed rip-off merchants. On the way out of Samui you will encounter very pleasant waiting areas a nice shopping street and a courtesy area where you can pick up free drinks and snacks while listening to some chilled-out music while the Thai breeze gently cools your brow (and this is for economy class passengers!)

More like a resort than an airport with its tropical gardens thatch roofs no walls etc. Only thing I don't like is the taxi rip-off to Chaweng Lamai etc. A set price system would make it near perfect.

Beautiful airport the first time you use it but if you are a regular traveller to Samui it becomes just another airport with one or two problems. Firstly charging taxis a large amount of money to allow them to pick up from the airport and therefore the cost being passed onto us. 400bhat for a 5/10min taxi to Chaweng is crazy. Why not introduce meters. Secondly not allowing other airlines to use the BKK-USM route apart from Thai air who have been allowed only 2 flights. Bangkok Airways have a monopoly therefore keeping the flight price high.

Efficient organisation and wonderful environment. It looks more like an 5* holiday resort with botanical garden than an Airport. Transfer to the airplane by several small carts is well organised which provides fast and stressless entering of the plane.
