Boston Logan Airport customer review

Have been a frequent LHR to Logan passenger for years the last 3 with a child. The only good thing going for Logan is the short walk from the gate to immigration. Otherwise Logan is surprisingly incredibly baby/child-unfriendly particularly when one is travelling on one's own. Baggage handling takes forever. The pushchair promised immediately on exiting the aircraft as at LHR never materializes. It doesn't arrive in the baggage hall until LONG after the last of the baggage have cleared somewhat battered. It's not easy trying to carry a car seat with a baby in it hand luggage and gather baggage simultaneously. Other passengers waiting in the same predicament often take pity and offer help which is just as well as the personnel are insolent and unsympathetic. After 3 journeys of said experience I gave up and bought a Sit 'N Stroll but continue to see families waiting forlornly for their pushchairs to arrive. This is in contrast to LHR a much- maligned airport where I've always had every assistance I required as soon as I stepped off the plane

BOS is my home airportt. I find it a perfectly functional airport but not terribly exciting. Some terminals (A E Landside) are newly renovated and quite nice while others (B) are in need of work. I've always been able to check in quickly and baggage delivery has usually been prompt. There are an adequate assortment of shops and restaurants though some of them are landside rather than airside (such as the Boston Landing area in Terminal C). I've found the TSA staff at this airport to be among the more professional and efficient in the country. Coming off international flights clearing customs is a matter of hit or miss. I've made it from the plane to the curb in less that 15 minutes but other times it's taken an hour. Transit access to this airport from downtown has improved since the institution of the Silver Line though it is still a bus subject to the same pitfalls of traffic and slow boarding as the Massport shuttle to the Blue Line.

Flew into Boston from UK on the Friday evening before Independence Day when thought it would be busy. What a breeze. The view of the city upon landing is spectacular in the setting sun! Was off the aircraft through Immigration and Baggage Reclaim and into Arrivals Hall in less than 30 minutes. The best thing about Logan Airport is its proximity to the city - so much better than DC and both Newark and JFK. Took approximately 20 minutes by taxi to arrive at hotel. Very pleasant experience and wouldn't hesitate to fly into Logan again if visiting the East Coast.

Flew into Logan on Luftansa via Munich. Quick no-hassle experience through very pleasant customs/immigration arrivals area; easy connection to Memphis via Northwest. Dramatic Terminal E ticketing area; comfortable NW departures area though somewhat confusing to find. Logan really needs to provide escalators connecting international departures (where most of the food/shopping is located) with NW domestic departures instead of that hidden elevator. Luckily staff very helpful and courteous. Much easier/less stressful than the usual JFK connections.

Keep in mind that the following opnions are based on my experiences from Friday March 16th and Saturday March 17th when the Northeastern US was hit by a severe snowstorm: BOS did not handle the bad weather situation well. Information provided was erratic if at all available. Flights that were cancelled were not listed as cancelled on the information monitors. They were simply taken off the monitors once cancelled. The airline staff told us that this was the way Massport the company in charge of BOS Operations always did it. One flight was listed with an arrival time of 6:30 pm until 6:40 pm despite that the airline staff knew that the same flight had not even departed from the airport it had been diverted to in the midst of the storm. The Massport staff assigned to the public information desks were extremely unhelpful and explained all problems with the incorrect information on the arrival/departure monitors as "it's in the computers"! I can accept that a bad weather situation is extremely stressfull to any airport. But the unprofessionalism exhibited by BOS/Massport is totally unacceptable.

Used BOS for BOS-FRA earlier this month returning yesterday. Terminal E's upgrades are nearing completion now Massport is putting new wall coverings up and new flooring at the Northwest section of the terminal. Boarding was not as chaotic as before and escalators were installed at this gate as well (departure lounge on level 3 boarding and CBP on level 2). On arrival the CBP immigration hall was empty. I have never seen it so empty before. I was literally through immigration 45 seconds after I entered the hall. The bag claim/customs hall is almost fully completed; there is a temporary wall beyond carousel 6 but other than that Terminal E is nearly done and has come a long way.

Used Terminal E for BOS-CDG-BOS. The terminal's interior upgrading is almost complete. Food quality is good. If you have time go to Houlihans if not plenty of other locations to choose. Shopping was alright but not much in the way of books except outside security. Boarding was slightly chaotic since we used gate 6 which looks as if it were placed arbitrarily. A note here terminal E gates with the exception of Northwest (the only permanant carrier there) are not leased to the airlines hence the lack of airline signage. Also the ground employees are not employees of the carrier. They are local employees assigned to carriers. I encountered a Lufthansa ground crewmember who told me she actually works for GlobeGround. She spoke German as do I but when I asked her if fluent German was a requirement she replied "you don't even have to be fluent in English". Kinda unsettling. Flight departed on time the return went alright however Customs still has not staffed the arrivals hall fully. While I realize this is not JFK it is no excuse to understaff the immigration hall. Especially when 4 flights arrive at the same time. Other than that it went well. The Airport Subway Station has come a long way and is very nice. Take it if you are trying to get downtown. Otherwise the Silver Line is also quite comfortable. Take it to South Station.

BOS-JFK-BUR on JetBlue out of Terminal C. JetBlue's upgrades are becoming visable. There is now a Johnny Rockets a Wolfgang Puck and a Starbucks next to gate 28. A permanent Dunkin Donuts is under construction next to gate 29 (currently there's a DD kiosk). There is also construction across from security where the Sam Adams used to be. At the end of this year JetBlue has announced that it will be taking over Continental's Terminal C gates giving them more space to work with. The security line at C hasn't been too bad the last few times ive flown out of Logan. My only gripe about Logan is that AirTran was kicked out of the United bag claim and is now in with jetBlue clogging the arrival hall every time they get a flight.

Had the misfortune to use Logan airport twice recently - what a disgrace! Over an hour to get through immigration then sent to the wrong terminal for connecting flight. 45 minutes to get through next security check with staff that simply throw your hand luggage around or stand chatting and rude in the extreme. All this caused us to miss our connection and we were made to fell it was our fault!! Same problems on the way back. If this is the first view visitors get of the USA I bet many want to turn straight back. What a shambles.

Had to use Logan for a flight from STL-ACK. Terminal B is chaotic. I almost got lost trying to find the Terminal C walkway. Inside Terminal C there is a Burger King Sam Adams Dunkin' Donuts Starbucks and Legal Seafoods. The Burger King is alright. My Advice is to eat at Legal Seafoods if you have time. Security At Terminal C is very organized. I forgot to mention that in the long hallway area the Check in desks are all in one central island. The gates are well laid out and the Cape Air gate area is well maintained. It's in the Continental Connection area near Midwest.
