"staff absolutely hates their job"

(Netherlands)

Trip Verified | In itself the lounge is not too bad - spacious, with reasonable tear and wear, and in terms of food offer it is on the verge of reasonable and mediocre. its three sad aspects are that (1) it is severely and unevenly air-conditioned (something not very unusual in tropical climates), (2) its staff absolutely hates their job and everyone, starting from the receptionist is eager to share this attitude, and (3) it is the best kept secret of KLIA and Malaysia Airlines - I am here for the fourth time, I remember where more or less it should be, yet it takes at least 30 min of circling around, as any navigation is absent or confusing, and it is not visible from the passenger hall level. Now, when the airport is under renovation, it became even worse.

"I am very disappointed"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Last week, I checked in at the check in counter in Kuala Lumpur international airport for my flight to Melbourne. Being a senior citizen, I requested the personnel at the counter to help me gain entry to the Golden Lounge, using my frequent flyer Enrich reward points. I have plenty of Enrich points which I hardly use. To my surprise, I was told that Malaysia Airlines was a separate entity from the Enrich frequent flyer programme and that they could not help. Why isn't Malaysia Airlines aligned with its Enrich frequent flyer programme in its system. It is so inconvenient, especially for senior citizen to to get into the Golden Lounge without the help of personnel at the Malaysia Airlines check in counters. I am very disappointed.

"it is inadequately staffed"

(Hong Kong)

Trip Verified | It's a big lounge. At around noon, it's quite empty, However, it is inadequately staffed. The chef for the noodle station were no where to be seen, I had to signal the cleaner to go looking for her. I also noticed most staff are busy playing with their cell phones, almost totally ignoring their guests. This can only be attributed to poor management of MH. The 4 food offerings were just a beef curry, potato chickpea masala, a tomato based pasta and a veggie fried rice. A sign that the airlines is struggling to survive by going on a strict budget. It might be a while before MH can go back to its glory days.

"lounge is tired old, stuck in the 1980s"

(New Zealand)

Trip Verified | Their Platinum lounge is tired old, stuck in the 1980s and stale (like the bread rolls). Having been a frequent flyer with MH for a decade I would think that the 2 years of the pandemic would have been a perfect breathing space to revitalise the Platnium (and also the golden) lounge product. One World has some excellent lounges at the emerald level - Cathay’s Home lounges in HK, Qatars lounges in Doha and QANTAS lounges in Sydney. The decor of the lounge while dated is still warm. The failings are on service and food/beverage offerings. In the mornings the bread product should be fresh and the cereal offerings should be more than cornflakes or coco pops. In all honesty the a golden Wing lounge has far superior choices - there you have a coffee machine with a barista - plentiful selection of fresh food All in all I have to say marketing 101 philosophy is your premium customers fly with you say 70x a year or more. They have One World flexibility. Why chose MH when the lounge reflects a sort of apathy towards the upper echelon frequent flyers?

"Very disappointed"

(Australia)

Trip Verified | Very disappointed. Cold food and only 2 choices and only 3 drinks available. Also tasteless and boring. Outside food much better and cheaper. Very disappointed.

"felt like we lounge guests were being nuisances"

(Malaysia)

Trip Verified | Front entrance staff were great, very pleasant and polite, but can't really say the same for staff inside the lounge. Often felt like we lounge guests were being nuisances and interrupting their conversations about the guests themselves. Even taking food from the buffet feels awkward. Too many flies in the lounge as well.

"good place to recharge"

(Malaysia)

Trip Verified |  Malaysia Airlines has its Golden Lounge in the domestic terminal of KLIA. The lounge receives the same design treatment as the Golden Lounge in the satellite terminal. There are lots of seats with ample of power points available for passengers. There is a children play corner and Muslim prayer rooms in the lounge. I arrived Kuala Lumpur around 8am in the morning and I am so thrilled to find out they serve the signature Malaysian dish - nasi lemak in the lounge. They also have Ipoh Hor Fun which is made-to-order. For a domestic lounge, it has a beautiful view of Malaysia Airlines aircrafts. The choice of food may be limited, mostly Malaysian cuisine (but when you are in Malaysia, why would you go for other cuisine?) Overall, nice ambience, good place to recharge and get ready for my next flight.

Plaza Premium - Penang Airport

(Malaysia)

Trip Verified | At peak periods seating capacity is tight. There is a counter with a reasonable range of made-to-order hot food options, as well as various snack and dessert items from the buffet. The taste of the food items is average, but the portions generous. No shortage of beverage choices, but it's a dry lounge, and the coffee machine was broken when I visited and the filter coffee from the pot was tasteless and weak. Still not as weak as the wifi connection though. Not a lounge to arrive early for.

"get busy during evening peak"

(Malaysia)

Trip Verified | Nice view of the tarmac from this Regional Golden Lounge, but can get busy during evening peak. The buffet is modest, with dessert options especially limited, even though the food is tasty and there is a noodle bar. I especially like that the lounge has 4-5 different seating areas with distinct styles, so you can dine in one place, grab a drink in another, then watch the tarmac from a third. Lounge has a shower, but didn't look too clean when I visited. The bathroom cubicles come with their own washbasins and counter surfaces so you can actually organise your stuff in there, which is a nice touch.

"spacious, airy, and elegant"

(Malaysia)

Trip Verified | As a place to chill out before a flight, this place is a great choice. It is spacious, airy, and elegant. I found a reclining chair tucked away in the corner, and spent 1.5 hours there. There is a good selection of snacks, pastries, and beverages, even though the hot food selection is very compromised. I forwent lunch, grabbing only a few slices of cake/some local biscuits, in favour of 4pm airline mush. The staff are courteous, professional, and disposed to going the extra mile to help you feel comfortable. The person who checked me in remembered my flight, and came well ahead of time to remind me to head out. Also, they have a tea tasting station, even if really you should have done your tea-tasting in the city itself!
