We arrived at the airport at 0510, parked on the long stay and checked in our baggage at 0520.
Stopped for breakfast at a fast food outlet land side. Joined the up to now unseen security queue at
0605. Frustration followed as it became apparent that we were not going to make the flight at the
current rate of progress so we switched to the Fast Track queue at 0635. Two pounds extra per person
collected by staff as the ticket machines had broken down. Fast track is joke as we were still a
good 20yds of double queue from the ex-ray machines at the bottom of the hidden stairs! At 0650 the
last call came for our flight (still 10yds to go) and we left the queue to join a short last minute
queue on the right of the other queing passengers. 5 more minutes and we were running barefoot down,
belt, shoes and bag in hand to our gate. At least we made the flight unlike 10 other passengers who
had the indignity of having their baggage returned to them. The Ryanair flight waited at least 30
mins for these passengers but lets face it - who would assume the flight would wait - I reckon the
10 gave up at 7-00! We took off at 0750 due entirely to these delays. Nowhere was a warning of long
delays given. No - 30mins from here signs. When are they going to get more security desks?

I was outraged to see a fast-track system in operation at Liverpool airport for people willing to
pay 2 pounds to get more quickly through security. To incentivize people to use this fast track
service, the "normal" queue was deliberately maintained at a sufficiently off-putting length.
Comments from the security staff as to how we were "leaving it a bit late" for boarding after
waiting 30 minutes in the queue added further insult to injury. Exploiting increased security
measures to make such easy profit is disgraceful. Airports should be aiming to improve service for
all passengers not just those willing to pay!!

17 January 2008 Customer Rating :
This airport is dreadful and not helped by the attitude of some of the security staff. Unfortunately
some of us have to use this place in transit and have no option, but you should avoid if at all
possible. for example : 6 January Arrived Easyjet from Berlin - had to walk almost as far from plane
to arrivals area, mostly outside. Toilets in main terminal disgusting and doorlocks didn't work.
Went to departures for connecting flight and wife and child went ahead - arranged to meet at
entrance to security. When my other child and I went towards security we were stopped by one of the
rudest security staff I have ever come across - he told us we weren't allowed past that point (no
signs told us we couldn't) and that in any case we were only allowed one bag each (we were carrying
those of wife and child) wouldn't believe us and suggested I ring my wife - I asked how and he said
'on your mobile of course' I told him I didn't have one and he said I 'must have'. He eventually
agreed to look downstairs and returned to say they weren't there. Eventually he looked again after I
had scoured terminal building and found they were (they had been there all the time) When we went to
the scanners. My son asked the security person very politely if he could treat the item carefully
as it was an accordian - this idiot replied 'congratulations' and then muttered something abusive
under his breath. When we got to the departure lounge we found all the seats had been removed ! -
doubtless a way of keeping people moving and spending more in the shops. European capital of
Culture? what a joke - how many visitors would return after this type of experience.

16 December 2007 Customer Rating :
This airport's services and design seems to be guided by the principle of extracting maximum profit
in return for maximum passenger misery. Seating areas and speed of transit have been sacrificed for
shopping space and grim food outlets. Despite 'modernising the airport' passengers continue to have
to walk across the tarmac in all weather to board their flights or even worse get those pesky buses.
The idea of 'fast track' through security, for the price of two pounds depends upon having a slow
track for ordinary customers. And, yes getting through security can be very slow. Most Servisair
staff who work on behalf of RyanAir can be relied upon not to know anything about service. Passport
control are not a good advert for a first point of contact for overseas visitors though today, for
the first time in well over fifty arrivals, one of the staff said hello before looking at my
passport. The passport queues continue to get worse as more flights use the airport. Parking and
pick up/drop off, which used to be brilliant is getting more complex and illogical. And I think a
one pound has been introduced for taking a black taxi outside the terminal. How cheap can you get?
All in all the main selling points of convenience and economy are being eroded. On a positive note
Easyjet are actually improving their service. I use the airport a minimum of 10 times per year and
it has gone from my top three international airports to the most irritating in the last two years.
Well done to all you managers.

GBP2 to get through security on the fast track, what a liberty. The slower you are checking people
through the non fast track route, the more the queue builds up, and the more GBP2 coins you get
because people are about to miss their flights. That's some incentive to work badly. Scrap this system
and put all your resources into getting everybody through security quickly. We've already paid for it
in our ticket price and airport taxes etc.

11 September 2007 Customer Rating :
Through Liverpool again for the second time this summer and in view of all the criticism of the London
airports recently, I thought I'd see if my previous comments on Liverpool needed revising. In the
event, there was plenty of time to assess the place as we were delayed there for 8 hours by Ryanair!
Parking is still fairly easy, though how much more they can extend the car parks I'm not sure. Check
in obviously depends on the airline, but the Servisair desk seems to be very busy dealing with Ryanair
clients. Is this because of baggage excess charges? Special announcements are not always easy to
hear and could do with repeating more than once, e.g. the ones warning of delays. Landside, there is
now nowhere to sit except in the food outlets, so if you want to eat your own food you have to sit on
the floor in the one open space upstairs before security. Also landdside, there seems to be only one
screen displaying departures and yet passengers are continually reminded to check the screens to avoid
missing their flights. We did actually go for a coffee to get a seat for a while, but the single
screen was out of sight around a corner and one of us had to keep getting up to check it for further
information. I'd have thought that if the airport makes a point of advising passengers to check
screens, it would make sure that there were more screens to be viewed. Security seemed fairly
efficient with an extra attendant at the top of the stairs to inspect boarding passes and remind
passengers about present restrictions. Airside there is more free seating, despite the expansion of
the food and other retail outlets. It helps if you're familiar with the routine, though, especially
that easyJet departs from the left hand end after security and Ryanair from the right hand end. We
don't usually use the food outlets, but this time we did, both landside and airside, and in each case
had to ask for the table (and floor) to be cleaned. The staff seemed reasonably obliging, though.
During the course of our delay, we did discover that the screens and the public announcements did not
always agree and for a time the screen was still listing our flight as likely to leave at 16.25 when
it had already been delayed at least twice more. The arrival of security "heavies" near to our gate
prior to a further delay announcement at 20.30 suggested that such delays and the concomitant
passenger discontent are not uncommon. Returning to Liverpool a week later was a much easier
experience and even the atmosphere in the passport area seemed more relaxed and less officious than on
our previous trips. The only minor hiccup was the queue to get out of the terminal because the taxi
rank seems to be right outside the door so there was a log jam of trolleys everywhere. Even so, from
landing to exit from the car park took only 35 minutes. With one or two little tweaks here and there
Liverpool can still be a fairly passenger-friendly airport. There certainly doesn't appear to be any
of the major discomforts experienced in London - even with an 8 hours delay.

23 July 2007 Customer Rating :
We continue to use Liverpool rather than Manchester wherever possible,
partly because of Easyjet, but also because access to the airport itself
is so much easier. We don't find that the on-airport parking is all
that expensive (though the introduction of a booking charge seems
unnecessary) when it's pre-booked, and we accept that we may have a bit
of a walk from the car to the terminal building - but that's OK unless
it's raining. This time we travelled with hand luggage only, checking
in online and so skipping the check-in queues - only there weren't any
for Easyjet! We didn't opt to pay £2 each for "speedy security" or
whatever the new money-making scheme is called, which was just as well
since there were no queues art security either. Less than 10 minutes
after arriving at the car park we were in the departure lounge and you
can't complain about that. We never use the food outlets, but since the
restrictions on hand luggage were introduced we have taken to buying
food and drink for the flight at Boots, using their special deal (3
items for £5?) which seems good value. The boarding process was handled
efficiently, though having checked in online we had to watch the screens
to find out which was to be our departure gate. On our return we had to
wait for 5 minutes before a stand was available, but disembarked
straight onto a bus to take us to arrivals. The entrance to the
arrivals area could have done with a good clean (everywhere else seems
OK, though) with litter and cigarette butts all over the place. The one
area of the Liverpool "experience" which I find uncongenial, though, is
the passage through passport control. One doesn't expect to be welcomed
with open arms, but the atmosphere can be frosty to say the least. One
gets the feeling that any minor infringement of a rigid procedure will
earn the offender a severe reprimand e.g. taking a short cut through the
"chicane" even when there isn't a long queue to be processed.

Parking is pathetic and pricey,we have now changed to paying for secure under cover parking just up
the main road from the airport. All you do is telephone them on arrival from your trip/holiday and
they send a bus down to collect you and return you to your car, a lot better than looking for it on
the airport in the open. Reminds me of Disneyworld in Florida you need to keep a note of the row you
are in, ie flamingo 26. In general the airport is acceptable with the occasional problem in the security area
with regards to time taken to clear.

3 July 2007 Customer Rating :
Flight Liverpool to Nice with Easyjet, the check-in was quick and the
security check only took 10mins which is good in todays climate. The
terminal was clean with plenty of seating areas unlike other airports.
The car parking was £32 for 7 days (pre-booked) which is good value and
only a short walk to the terminal - would use again.

April flights to and from Palma. Outward experience fine, though
presence of wheelchair passenger plus heavy rain meant we had to use the
short stay/drop-off facility. Luckily we'd checked the details
beforehand with the very helpful parking/customer relations lady (Sonia
Ely) because the signposting is not terribly helpful. Swiftly through
security. Longish wait for our flight gate to appear on the screen, but
boarding of wheelchair passenger went smoothly (if slightly damply!)
Heard warnings to several passengers on other flights that their bags
were about to be identified prior to offloading, which must be the
latest technique for getting people to hurry up. Passage through
airport on return delayed while we waited for wheelchair transport, but
at least it meant that the baggage hall was clear and our bags were
waiting when we got there. Only sour note, not involving us directly,
was the immigration officer who checked our passports shouting very
unpleasantly at a man who failed to wait behind the blue line to be
called forward. His manner seemed totally inappropriate.

I've used JLA at Speke many times. Parking's expensive, so we get the
express bus from Queen Square which is a fun experience, with lots of
Poles, Spaniards (the football influence?) and French people going home.
The bus stops right outside the arrivals door. Arrivals hall is huge,
check-ins seem to move quickly, and upstairs there's lots of shops
selling the usual naff duty-free (but not profit-free) stuff. Security
is quick and thorough with fast track for flights to the Republic of
Ireland. The waiting area by the gates needs to be improved, and
definitely not enhanced by the bizarre boarding practices of EasyJet and
RyanAir. Arriving home has always been speedy, with little fuss in
Immigration and bags appearing on the carousels quickly. A minus point
is the walk to and from the planes which is across the apron and
horrible in the cold and wet.

The experience of flying from Liverpool is not something anyone should
look forward to. The chaps in woolly hats keeping cars away from the
front of the airport are the start of the experience. And if they direct
you back straight into the long-term car park as they'll try to do
you'll usually have a long walk back to the terminal with your luggage
(I've yet to find a luggage trolley in the car park!). The shiny new
check-in hall lifts the spirits but the experience spirals downhill from
there. The food in the cafe on the way to security (little else beyond)
is basic, and poor. And beware lingering. Twice I've been through
security in minutes but on the third occasion a huge queue developed in
minutes and it took 40 minutes to get through. Many people were
panicking that Ryanair would apply 'customer service' and offload their
bags the hold-up was so long. The departure areas are part of the old
airport - and show it. They are cramped - almost claustrophobic -
information is poor and on occasion gates are changed without any
announcements or updating of the small departure monitors - you just
follow the crowds and hope for the best. Once through, if its Ryanair
(haven't tried Easyjet), there can be a long exposed walk to the
aircraft. Get caught in a downpour as we did and you board the aircraft
soaked to the skin - and the same thing can happen when you return and
head for the terminal building. Getting through airports is rarely fun
(unless it is Singapore's Changi) but Liverpool does little to ease the
experience.

It's hard to believe that the terminal building is only a few years old
as it looks very shabby and isn't very clean. And like many UK airports
not much thought seems to have gone into its design: too many steps and
long corridors. All the procedures on arrival and departure were swift
and efficient and the staff are friendly. The poor public transport
links are a major disadvantage and the fact that (prebooked) taxis from
outside Liverpool are only permitted to pick up and drop off from the
carpark across the road would seem to suggest that the management
doesn't have ambitions beyond being a small airport serving just the
local area.

I'm afraid to say that this airport is rapidly going to the dogs. This
is a great shame - during it's major expansion of recent years, the
airport was a joy to use - clean, efficient and friendly. This now seems
to have all but dissapeared - some impressions from a recent experience.
First, just being dropped off is a nightmare, with the driver having to
do a ludicrous loop around the short stay car park. I now get dropped
off at the roundabout outside the airport and walk the rest of the way -
much preferable to the 10 minute faff that you go through in the car
park at busy times. The security is also pretty awful - at bust times it
has taken me up to 45 mins to get through this - the actual security
area itself is bedlam with no real space for people to gather their
belongings together or put their shoes back on. The worst thing now is
that the airport are introducing a £2 charge to get through the secure
area - not £2 to be added on to your ticket, but you will have to
physically put £2 in a machine to be allowed through security and onto
your flight. This is the sort of madness one would expect at some tin-
pot third world airport, which is perhaps the atmosphere they are trying
to create now. What impression this will give to foreign visitors or
business people can only be guessed at. Finally the airport itself now
looks shabby and dilapidated - particularly around arrivals and baggage
reclaim - again, not a way to create a good impression, especially as
Liverpool heads into the capital of culture year. I hope that airport
authorities do something to arrest the decline of this airport quickly -
they did well to build it up so well, but they are in serious danger of
killing the goose that lays the golden egg. I am now seriously
questioning the added convenience of Liverpool airport over Manchester,
and I suspect a lot of frequent travellers will be doing the same.

May I add to the comments made by John Marsden on 22/09/06 re parking at Liverpool Airport. Before
7/7 the taxi rank was directly adjacent to the airport ie you came out of the airport and didn't
have to cross any roads in wet weather to get a cab. The road where the cabs are parked now used to
be where people who were dropping off or picking up were directed. Since 7/7 the cabs have been
placed in this area, thus ensuring that no passengers can be dropped off or collected there, with
the road adjacent to the airport used only for buses. The taxi rank is still on this road, but
remains unused by order of the airport authority. This continuing ploy has meant that people
picking up or dropping off are forced to use the short term car park. I am reliably informed that
this nets the airport authority in excess of £5000 per week. I would not hold my breath waiting for
this quarter of a million pound a year scam to stop!

Liverpool airport is a joke when it comes to arrivals. Having been
directed around up and down and around again to get into the passport
control area, you are then bombarded with a mass of notices telling you
to do this - do that and dont even think about something else. They go
to great lengths to tell you how much trouble you will be in if you even
raise an eyebrow to a customs officer. When I handed over my passport,
one of my credit cards had somehow got inside some of the pages and it
fell out when the women went to open it. She then tells me what a
ridiculous place to keep my credit card but obviously said it thinking I
would not say anything in reply. When questioned about what she had just
said and why, she then decided to be deaf and when finally pushed she
finally realised that her qualification in bad attitude had not only
drawn a great deal of attention to her, her supervisor came over and
tried to clarify why they have to be abusive to arriving passengers,
faced with about 100 passengers all wanting to get out, she was duly
removed and dealt with while I was waved through. In the last five trips
to Liverpool I have seen a number of people having to put up with
abusive comments from customs officers and its no wonder they get verbal
abuse when they adopt this kind of approach. If they dont like the job
they should go find something else to do. I have spoken to airport and
customs about this matter and was amazed to find out how many complaints
they have against them and yet the airport say they are powerless to do
anything about it.

Liverpool Airport building is comfortable and clean. Then it is let down
by the parking arrangements. Took son for Amsterdam flight with no
baggage. Was not allowed to drop him at terminal but had to use short
stay car park. The first ten minutes are free but it is impossible to
find a parking space and then go to terminal building and find a pay
machine within that time. Wake up Liverpool even Manchester Airport
with its three terminals allows you to drop passengers at departures so
long as you do not leave the vicinity of the car.

Used Liverpool airport for the first time in July. Whilst the airport
itself was ok with friendly staff and no queues at security - the car
parking was horrendous to say the least. We counted over 30 cars with
signs on them stating authority to tow away which was obviously due to
the poor layout of the car park which looks like its been recently
expanded. It actually took us 25minutes to find a parking space in one
of the long term carparks which had already been pre-paid for. The cars
with signs on them must have been left by panicking travellers who
thought they would miss their flight. I would recommend that the
airport re-think the layout and directional signage - currently painted
on the floor - not very good when you are in a line of other cars all
looking for somewhere to park. We also queued in a long line of traffic
on the way out primarily due to negotiating around abandoned cars.
Quite impressed with the barriers though for the pre-paid side of
things. Due to the car parking difficulties we would try to avoid this
airport if we could.

Flew again from Liverpool in the week before Easter and a pleasure to do
so (as far as the whole business of flight departures is ever a
pleasure!). We had a passenger with restricted mobility and we were
treated well, especially by the "lorry lift" operator. The only minor
problem was approaching security, where the queue stretched back up the
stairs. We, of course, had to use the lift and, because the lift
emerges just beyond the foot of the stairs, then had no option but to
queue-barge which must have been very aggravating for the many people
behind us.

We have been using this airport frequently for several years now, both
for business and pleasure and have always been very impressed with the
efficiency and friendliness of the staff, and the smooth operation of
the airport. Mention by other posters of overflowing ashtrays on tables
is a mystery, as there is no smoking allowed in the eating areas, or
indeed in all but one small part of the airport. Your checked in baggage
is usually waiting for you when you have cleared immigration and we
only ever allow ten minutes from landing to exiting by car, and are
rarely disappointed. Liverpool operates like a well run airport should
and continues to deserve our support and gratitude.

Sixteen months on from Terry Booth's comments (10th April 2004)about queing outdoors for passport
control on arrival, nothing has changed. I was in a forty minute queue on arrival in September of
which 20 minutes were spent in the open air carrying a toddler. The same queue contained others with
babies and a person in a wheelchair. An Immigration Service person was asked what happens when it
rains and she said "You get wet". I wrote with these concerns to the Airport's Customer Service. The
officer replying said that in future if it rained as there are no covered walkways she "would hope
that a coach would be provided". Which I think means the situation will continue because I can't see
where they will magic a coach and driver from every time there is a queue outside and it starts to
rain. On a positive note or 2 - the walk from the far reaches of Long Term car park 1 is not as far as it
looks. I live in Nrth Manchester and find Liverpool airport slightly longer to get to than
Manchester but easier despite that. Security clearance on departure takes a long time but it's
indoors and its reassuringly thorough, but do not bank on having time to shop and eat after going
through.

We've used Liverpool Airport as it has grown over the years since the
first arrival of easyJet and still much prefer it over Manchester.
I've just been particularly impressed by the helpfulness of the lady on
the car park telephone line. We had to cancel a short break at the last
minute and when I enquired belatedly about a possible refund of parking
charges, she told me that this was possible if we were intending to park
at the airport again in the near future. We were, so I made the new
booking and then rang her back with the details. Although I couldn't
speak to her directly, I left the details on her answerphone. She rang
me back 2 or 3 days later, apologised for the delay in replying , said
she'd checked everything and just needed my card number to arrange the
refund of the original booking. That refund has duly turned up on my
credit card account. She deserves a bouquet! If more people in the
travel industry were as helpful and efficient there would be far fewer
disgruntled travellers.

Flew through LPL from IOM on the way to Cologne and back. Have to agree
with Ashley Briscombe's comments - early Sat morning the bar/catering
facilities could not cope with the (small) number of people wanting
breakfast. Overflowing ashtrays, trays full of dirty dishes, litter all
over the floor. A very poor impression of an airport trying to compete

I use Liverpool airport around 8 or 9 times a year, out of necessity not choice. I fly very
frequently, nationally and internationally, and Liverpool is easily the worst airport I have
seen. The facilities are extremely limited. The place is filthy - if you go to the bar in
departures, expect dirty tables, overflowing ashtrays, and a very long wait for service.
Information is pretty much impossible to come by - the information desk, which is hidden away in

the passenger, and, of course, fried food.

I have flown out of Liverpool on numerous occasions since easyJet commenced operations some 8 or so
years ago. The airport is still undergoing its metamorphosis but generally speaking it is a very
pleasant airport to fly from. I submitted a written complaint a couple of years ago about the
standard of cleanliness and received a very prompt response. The Management are switched on to the
need to exceed customer expectations if they are to continue challenging Manchester and the only
current problems appear to be the long, long queues to get through security and the lack of prior
warning plus the extortionate car parking charges which quite often far exceed the cost of the
flights! Overall we are fortunate to have this airport as our local point of departure.

I've travelled through L'pool five times so far this year and have been quite impressed by the
place. It’s not difficult to reach from the motorway and the transition from check-in to aircraft is
smooth, well signposted, and doesn't involve any long treks. I travel a lot with my work and I find
the terminal is quite a rarity for a British airport, as it actually seems to have been well
designed! Thankfully I have not experience any of the delays at security mentioned elsewhere here,
or indeed for my bags when I have travelled with luggage. Maybe those problems have been solved now
or maybe I've just been lucky, my journeys through the airport during the summer months will tell I
guess. All in all I'd certainly recommend L'pool airport to those living in the northwest, I’ll
undoubtedly continue to use it when possible.

I travel through this airport two or three times per month for the last 10 years. Although its had
a rapid expansion in the past 10 years its still quite compact and hassle free to travel through.
The security check queue is getting ever longer.
There is no priority security queue for frequent travellers and I don't usually use the shops / bars
because I simply try to get through the airport as quickly as possible.
The baggage can be quite slow to hit the conveyor for arrivals, but other than that I've never had

We flew through Liverpool Airport yesterday (14/09/04) with three young children. My five year old
fell on the stone floor in the check in area and badly bumped his forehead. We asked for something
cold to put on his forehead and a first-aider. I sat there for approx. 20 min. With one screaming
and one crying toddler until we gor some ice in a plastic bag and were informed by the airport duty
manager that there was no first aider on site. They had made several requests through the PA system
for a first aider to come to the Easyjet desk.

My wife and I flew out of Liverpool last month on an EasyJet flight to Paris. The airport itself is
nothing special, quite basic really, but seems to be able to cope with 3 or 4 departing
international flights an hour.
However, the security personnel must have the keenest eyes in the world when it comes to spotting
such dangerous items as nail clippers. My wife had a small pair in her handbag and had previously
negotiated security in Sydney, Bangkok, Copenhagen, Warsaw and Nice without any comment whatsoever.
At Liverpool airport, a security screener confiscated said nail clippers (a GBP 1.00 item) and told
us that we could have them mailed on to us if we paid the airport authorities GBP 10.00. Needless
to say we just quietly continued on our journey, feeling quite safe in the knowledge that security
at Liverpool airport was really very effective!

seemingly can't handle an international and domestic flight at the same time we had to remain
onboard for ages until the Irish passengers were in the building. Then when we all disembarked we
were further held in a long queue outside the terminal whilst a third plane was loaded crossing our
path in front. Thank goodness it wasn't raining - there would have been 140 drenched people entering
Immigration. Liverpool must be the worst aiport in Europe in dealing with arrivals.

If passengers are thinking of grabbing a bite to eat before they catch their
flight, don't eat at the Burger King before security. It is very dirty. The fries are cold and the service very slow, My
advice is to get something to eat after security - much cleaner the food at a good price. Apart from that the airport is very good and my flights all arrived early.
The airport express bus is the best value service I have ever seen only 2 pounds
to the city.

Following my posting on 18/9/03 I visited the Liverpool Airport website and more-or-less copied the
above into their "feedback" form. This was ± two weeks ago, since when no reply has been received. Liverpool Airport is clearly not
concerned about passengers missing their flights due to staff absenteeism!

I can agree with Stephen Darcy on some points but I had no problems at security. Liverpool airport
has improved greatly since its new terminal has been completed. Its a big
improvement on the old terminal which was small, shabby and dirty. I love the new Liverpool airport. Great views of the
planes. This airport has good public transport into Liverpool that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I will use
this airport again.

Small-medium airport, expanded in 2002, now called John Lennon Airport,
used mainly by Easyjet, several Isle of Man carriers and by Ryanair
(Dublin and Brussels-Charleroi). Also by UK holiday charter flights in
the summer. Easy motorway access until the last ten km. Plenty of short-
term/set-down parking outside. Adequate shopping/bars. Check-in seems
sufficient BUT on Sun 31/8/03 only one security x-ray machine was
working; this was said to be down to staff absenteeism. A long queue
built up and the security people gave no priority to those in the ever-
lengthening line whose flight went at (say) 1600 to those whose flights
left at 1700. The security people said "they'll hold the plane". The
Ryanair chief pilot said "if the late ones aren't on in five minutes
we'll take their luggage off the plane"! Bad marks to the Scousers, I
think!
