"there are good facilities"
M Narbeth (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Contrary to another review there are good facilities after passport control. Including shops, Bistro and cafe. Very clean and definitely not a shed.

"Very basic all the way"
1 reviews H Roberts (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | Very basic all the way. Very few shops or coffee places. Passport and check in was fine but once through that it was bit like waiting in a big shed. Finally found a food court to get a meal but was so badly signed most people did not know where it was and that's a shame as the food was good. Only give minimum time to be there if at all possible.

"All staff were extremely pleasant"
David Jackson (Thailand)
✅ Trip Verified | Nice little airport; small and quaint and delightful to use. All staff were extremely pleasant and I will definitely plan to use this again when next flying to Laos. Two downsides, toilets and airport internet connection. Toilets smelly, they should be on a continuous cleaning schedule. Internet very poor, low bandwidth and annoying log-in process including a compulsory (and multiple) viewing for 7 seconds of the Lao Telecom advert then a 30 second video. As the airport filled up for its one flight per hour the internet became impossible to use, see photographs. Apart from that, excellent and I will definitely use again.

"a simple and pleasant airport"
3 reviews Samuel Higgs (Canada)
✅ Verified Review | Wattay International Airport in Vientiane is a simple and pleasant airport. Perhaps the ease of travel is due to its tiny size, at any given time, there will only be a couple of flights on the docket so checking in for your flight is very quick. One does not need to arrive too far in advance of their flight. The departure terminal contains decent seating with a couple of large televisions (they were showing muay thai boxing when I was last there). The arrival experience is also positive, with a reasonably short visa on arrival line (and pretty relaxed officials), eliminating a potential source of stress on the final leg of one's trip. My favorite aspect of this airport is the walkway between the plane and the gate. It is elevated and fully exposed to the outdoors so that travelers get a blast of fresh, warm air to set the tone for their stay in Laos.

"terminal dirty, especially the toilet"
Mingxiu Huang (Singapore)
Singapore to Luang Prabang via Vientiane. As this is the capital airport of Laos, my expectation was way better than this. However, I was very disappointed. The terminal was dirty, especially the toilet. Upon arriving in Vientiane before heading to Luang Prabang, the ground staff was unable to handle our group properly. We waited for 30 minutes just for the ground staff to bring us to the domestic terminal. The domestic terminal is insanely small and dark and we experienced elactricity cut off while transiting for our returning flight back to Singapore.

Vientiane Airport customer review
Ioana Dudila (Romania)
Wattay International Airport is small and friendly easy to access from Vientiane and nevertheless very easy to get around. The staff are friendly and quick and this includes the Immigration officers and just about every person who you come in contact with while you are there. The facilities are in perfect accordance with the size of this airport: you won`t find any gourmet restaurant here but there is a little bit of everything including a very nice duty-free shop. This is a very comfortable arrival and departure airport as laid-back and relaxed as Laos itself. Arrived mid-November departed mid-December.

Vientiane Airport customer review
Peter J Thackray (United Kingdom)
Domestic Terminal is older than the International Terminal and was clearly "the" airport in the past. Only few in and out on domestic flights. The planes are parked on the apron and usually passengers walk to and from. Arrivals is through the single gate to the Baggage Spur not a circular belt so things can pile up if there is a lot of luggage. There are toilets before the Arrivals Hall. The whole terminal is a single story with Arrivals at one end and Departures at the other end. There are no facilities in the Departure Lounge after Security. Within the terminal there are a couple of shops selling snacks and souvenirs and a Money Changing booth. The whole experience is pretty good not many flights and a generally relaxed friendly attitude. You would not believe you were in the Capital City.

Late flight out on New Year's day. I love this small airport it's quick to get though and friendly. A surprisingly well stocked duty free shop with a good choice. A small cafe before boarding. I imagine it's how airports were 40 years ago and is a pleasure to travel through.

The international terminal is small and because of that there are no endless walks which is great. The visa on arrival staff were very quick and it only took a few minutes to be processed then it was the same going through immigration. Our bags were waiting for us in the baggage hall after immigration then it was over to the taxi desk and straight into cab and on to our hotel. On departing once again immigration was very quick then we had a short wait in the departure lounge which was very nice with a few shops and a good cafe.

Arrived from Bangkok on Thai flight and still bussed to the terminal in June 2009. Queues for visa on arrival handled relatively quickly and luggage handling dealt with promptly and efficiently. Friendly staff with a relaxed atmosphere.
