"the airport is still dreadful"
Suzanne Kenny (Canada)
Not Verified | Been coming here since 1993. The airport has grown, been destroyed in hurricanes and now 3 years after the last hurricane it is starting to recover. However in the new and improved departure area (gates) there is only 1 bathroom. 6 toilets in the women’s and 2 family toilets. This is crazy. All kinds of fancy new fixtures but the hand dryers don’t work. Worse the staff is rude and doesn’t care. They are too busy chatting to each other. Despite the repairs the airport is still dreadful.

"much better that I envisaged"
Michael Davies (United Kingdom)
✅ Trip Verified | American Airlines to Miami. Check in was quick and smooth - I had multiple segment flights (on one booking) - Miami - Madrid - London - Manchester, and my luggage was checked all the way though to Manchester. The check in opened at 11.30, 3 hours before flight and there was a priority lane for business class and One world status customers. Although the general queue was small. I was there at 11.45. Outgoing passport control also very quick. Security efficient - shoes and belt off, but iPad and electronics remained in my carry on. There are 2 lanes - so this could get busy if travelling on the Air France or KLM widebody flights. The departure area is still being rebuilt - but it was pleasant non the less. Large fans in the first (upstairs) seating area kept the place cool. A couple of sandwich outlets including Dominoes. I had a large Turkey and Cheese panini (hot) and a bottle of coke for $17. Small duty free kiosks as well. Down a ramp to the gate area - a lot of seating and not crowded, despite the KLM flight waiting as well as my AA. There a large central bar area - I didn't buy anything so cant comment on price. Boarding about 40 mins before departure. If you are travelling with hand luggage and have not had to check in, make sure the gate agents check your passport before attempting to board. We walked along the apron, passed the KLM A330 to our plane - boarding front and rear. Boarding completed well before departure time. Left early - unfortunately we took off towards the sea - so we didn't see the tourists on Maho beach preparing to get sand blasted. Overall a great experience - much better that I envisaged

"arrived with no issue"
Russ Gibson (United States)
Arrived with no issue. Bags were delivered in a timely manner, rental car booth was easy to find, and plenty of restrooms available. The departure was another story altogether. The line through immigration was a bit long, and then security was even longer. It kept moving so it wasn't terribly bad. The airport has been renovated and the shopping area inside the terminal is new and very open. The "restaurants" in the outer area before security serve their purpose, but nothing fancy. We were departing from gate B2, located on the lower level of the terminal. We walked down the stairs into utter mayhem. There must have been 700 people all standing around waiting for their flights. Then the announcements started - this airline looking for Mr and Mrs So and So. Then that airline looking for Mr. Such and Such. Then that flight being delayed until whatever. Then, all the while we heard nothing about our flight. The scheduled boarding time came and went and finally the pre-board announcement was made. We were sitting, but all the people around the gate started crowding in. All the while the PA announcements kept going on and on. We noticed the gate agent saying something and another surge from the crowd to the gate. No announcement and we wondered what was going on so we walked over and found out that our section was being called to board. Again announcements for every other flight in the airport - not ours. We got through and made it on to a bus to take us to the waiting aircraft only to sit there while two more boarding groups were called. Total chaos mishandled by Delta.
