Bologna Marconi Airport customer review

Arrived from FRA baggage delivery was quick and efficient I strongly appreciated the police kiosk inside the airport taking care of troublemakers or drunk passengers that sometimes bother other people. This airport really needs a better layout for the outdoor bus terminal which gets a bit cramped when an entire aircraft needs to get into the city asap.

Arrived from London Gatwick (LGW) with BA direct flight. There was no air bridge and passengers had to take a shuttle bus to the terminal. Because of arriving from a non-Schengen country I had to pass through passport control. The Italian border official was surprisingly quick and efficient and 15 min later all the passengers were already in the luggage area. I had to wait for almost 45 mins to collect my luggage and in fact it was the only flight at that moment with 50-60 passengers only! The airport is small and tidy. Upon arrival one can see a queue of authorized taxis waiting for passengers. A short ride from the airport to Bologna would cost EUR 15-20.

Bologna Marconi Airport customer review

In many respects a small pleasant airport. Unusually now it has rather more amenities groundside than it has airside. A large bookshop with a small selection of foreign language books food shops and catering facilities. Catering facilities airside are very limited if you want something substantial have it before you pass security. Check in was slow for no obvious reason but pleasant but many carriers have check in machines here so many passengers might avoid this problem. Security queues despite the limited flights were particularly slow but seemed to speed up later as perhaps more scanners opened up. Not a place to push your luck on clearing security in a hurry however. Beyond security there are few amenities shops geared to high end ladies interests newsagent and what was a very expensive "duty free". Wine here was as expensive as it was on the hotel menu the night before and at least one perfume was 50% dearer than in the airport at home. Although the aircraft parked 10m from the gate we were still bussed all the way. That was after a long time penned up and standing in the bus one easy way to reduce carbon emissions - let us walk! There was a spontanious outburst of derisory cheers when we eventually arrived at the plane. Bologna has an excellent and frequent public bus serving downtown including the railway station.

The airport environment is nice and facilities appropriate for its traffic - approximately 4.5 million pax/year. It still misses loading bridges to get to the aircraft - it will be a major improvement to be realised ASAP.

They have updated the terminal but check in appalling. 1 assistant checking in a plane of 160 people. Eventually a second desk opened but it took me 1 hour and 40 minutes to get checked in. Would have come close to missing my flight had it not been delayed by half an hour. No book or newspaper shop beyond passport control for non-Schengen departures and only one place to buy water etc which had a huge queue. Won't be using BLQ again.

BLQ is a convenient airport for the region. The convenient airport shuttle runs every 15 minutes to the city centre and train station. The journey takes about 20 minutes. For some reason BLQ does NOT have left luggage facilities so I was forced to leave my bags at the train station.

A wonderful airport. Small and convenient it is served by most European flag carriers. Both the terminal and the runway have recently been upgraded in expectation of future expansion. Before that happens passengers can enjoy an efficient under exploited facility. Connection to the city of Bologna is provided by a cheap shuttle that runs frequently to the train station. Without a doubt BLQ is among the best airports in Italy.

Small airport. Not many amenities but efficient and well linked to the city centre by a cheap and frequent bus service. A larger duty free shop and jetbridges would be a most welcome addition. Other than that it's ok for a city the size of Bologna.
