"self service carts almost never work"
Andrew Jervis (United States)
✅ Trip Verified | I fly approximately 20-30 times a year and your self service carts almost never work. I usually fly the 6:00am flight where valet service is unavailable. It really isn’t that difficult to properly maintain a machine.

"very fast and efficient"
R Anderson (Hong Kong)
✅ Verified Review | Anchorage airport (north terminal) is clean and spacious with very fast and efficient check-in and security. There are lots of interesting things to look at in the airport. Plenty of eating options and shopping. Clean bathrooms and good WiFi. No complaints at all.

"Anchorage will not disappoint"
41 reviews Anurag Dave (United States)
When I landed in Anchorage late at night, the first thing I noticed was how busy the terminal was. I was really hungry after a long 5 hour flight from LAX, so the first thing I did was grab something to eat from Cinnabon (one of many restaurants at this airport). Baggage claim experience was smooth. Taxi was readily available outside for transportation to hotel. While returning back, I had a very smooth check-in and security experience. If you enjoy watching beautiful scenery and planes, Anchorage will not disappoint. As you walk around the terminal, you will notice many "photo opportunities" both inside and outside the terminal.

"there are adequate facilities"
31 reviews Albert Wong (China)
The airport is good and surprisingly large for a city of this population, due to large number of tourists. Most depart on Terminal S (South), note the terminal as the other terminal is far away. Check in and security were smooth and fast. There are adequate facilities for shopping or a drink. The airport as well as Alaska Airlines have a good record of on time departure. A good airport though there is not many lounges.

Ted Stevens Anchorage Airport South (domestic) Terminal is a pleasure to navigate through. Modern, uncrowded, spacious, scenic with many wonderful Alaskan artifacts. Seems that almost everyone photographs the giant stuffed moose upon arrival. A nice variety of stores-even a McDonalds with a 50 cent ice cream cone. Comfortable and roomy observation deck. Short walk to be connected to People Mover (city bus), Alaska Railroad and rental cars (no need to ride shuttle bus). The most complete and careful security check I have experienced.

Anchorage Airport customer review

The (south) domestic terminal in Anchorage is world class and beautiful. This new terminal is very modern spotlessly clean provides amenities expected at an international airport and offers a view of the surrounding mountains that is breathless. The displays of local wildlife native culture and art is unsurpassed by most airports in the world. However the old north terminal (which is now connected to the south terminal by a concourse) is sad. Anchorage is one of the five most busy airports in the world for international (cargo) airlines but not for international passenger service. The few international airlines that do provide passenger service (mostly during the summer months) are forced to use the north terminal as U.S. customs is located there. All the comments seen on this site are about the north terminal made by international travelers and are undoubtedly true. Wish they all could have been processed through the magnificent south building.

Be aware the International terminal has only one shop that sells duty free goods. The only alcohol sold is a restricted choice of whiskeys and they only sell a restricted selection of cigarettes.

Went to Anchorage in late 2011. Airport has some restaurants on the security side of the airport but not a good choice and the quality was not too good. The gift shops on the other hand are excellent especially if you are looking for Native American art. Be warned that quite a few souvenirs are like snow shakers with water which will be taken off you by security if you need to pass through them again. Information screens were useful. Plenty of seating and quite a view out of the terminal window.

I live in Anchorage so fly through here fairly often. The North terminal is old and outdated with little seating old and dirty bathrooms and few options for dining. The baggage claim in the north terminal is rickety old and often slow. The lines are longer and check-in just isn't as efficient. The north terminal is also very dark. The new terminal is great though lots of food and beverage options nice bathroom facilities plenty of seating moving walkways shorter lines efficient baggage claim and overall better design. There's also a lot more light and a better view of the mountains. The experience really does depend on which terminal you get. It will be either really good or really bad.

The airport lacks a transit area. Passengers are forced to leave the aircraft and pass immigration control. Passenger handling seems unprofessional. Gate waiting room had TV screens with commercials blaring out unwanted TV entertainment but lacked an information screen and a PA system. Airport ground handling delayed flight in spite of sufficient ground time.
