eturn from Toronto to Amsterdam. Flight departed ontime, but plane was very old, seats very narrow
and crew not very friendly. Food was minimum at best, and breakfast was in a box. Inflight
entertainment pathetic, aged television shows were shown, but the equipment was old and there was
more static on the screen than anything else. Spend a little bit more and fly a better airline or
make a connection.

Martinair Economy Class Toronto-Amsterdam. Both flights delayed for more than 4 hours. In Amsterdam
Martinair offered a cup of coffee, in Toronto nothing was offered. The captain told on both flights
they encountered technical problems, which was the reason for the delays. Cabin crew service is OK
but seats are too small in Economy Class. Overall, due to the ongoing delay problems and the poor
service at the service desk, I will not fly Martinair again.

AMS-MIA in comfort class. Flight was 70%, meal service just a hot meal no salad/starter. In comfort
class you do have a few cms more legspace making it a bit more acceptable onboard this old Boeing
767. Digiplayer with not up to date collection and headphones free. In economy they dont even show
movies anymore, just cartoons etc and they try to rent the other available digiplayers at 12 euro
each. One x wine or beer free with hot meal - the rest all charged. Juices and water available, crew
ok. Before landing, box with sandwich and juice for arrival in Miami at 7pm not impressed.

My husband and I travelled with our two granddaughters from Newcastle to Orlando via Amsterdam. (KLM
Newcastle to Amsterdam and then Martinair from Amsterdam to Orlando). We upgraded to comfort class and
had very pleasant flights. On time, the crew on all flights were very nice and helpful. Their prices
are very competitive and again we found no fault whatsoever.

We were a family of 6. 4 adults and 2 children travelling in August. we were told that we could not
book seats or upgrade on line. We arrived at the check in more than 3 hours before departure, and were
not given seats together, in fact we were several rows apart. On the return journey, because of flight
delays we missed our connecting flight. We were told that the adults were booked to go on one plane
and the children on another. we pointed out that it was unacceptable to have our children travelling
on their own in a foreign country, but it took an hour to sort it out and even then we still had to
travel on 2 separate planes. Would we ever travel with Martinair again? The answer is a definite no.

Amsterdam-Heraklion Economy. Boeing 767-300 plane with maximized number of seats (limited leg space in
economy class). For the price paid for a return ticket to Crete, the service is basic. Meal is very
basic (cheese sandwich, small juice, apple, cookie, and small snack), 1 hot and one 1 cold drink
(limited choice) and all extra services are paid (alcoholic drinks, snacks). In flight entertainment
is old movies, few boring comedy shows, headphones are only for sale. Martinair seems rather a low-
cost company, without the low-cost tickets part - a return Amsterdam-Crete (3h 30') is at least 300
euro.

Miami-Amsterdam round trip, in economy class outbound, and in comfort
class coming back home. No problems with delays; food was decent; flight
crews polite and reasonably attentive. I would fly Martinair again, but
not in economy class, where the leg room was inadequate and there was a
charge for in-flight entertainment. Comfort class is, essentially,
equivalent to economy class on an international flight with a major
American carrier like United or American: hardly a luxury travel
experience, but tolerable, and if Martinair saves you a few dollars it
is worth considering.

Martinair in Comfort Class from Rhodes to Amsterdam, scheduled 10.30 pm.
On arrival at airport we were told that the flight was delayed until
4.00 am, without any explanation, but we had to check in the luggage
before 9.30 pm. No other service or refreshments offered. The airplane
arrived at 4.40 and we could leave at 6.00 am. after a whole night at
the airport. Fortunately, the shops remained open so we could buy some
bottles of water to drink. During the flight the pilot explained the
delay by a sandstorm in Turkey and the repair of a weather radar.
Comfort Class is a joke, no comfort what so ever. Food offered in a box
was mediocre (bread with cheese, a small cookie, yoghurt and pre-packed
orange juice which was the only available drink during the 3,5 hour
flight). Flight attendants were also exhausted and not very unfriendly
nor attentive. Did choose the airline because of the direct flight to
Amsterdam but next time will prefer a stopover in Athens or Thessaloniki
and avoid this airline.

20 May 2007 Customer Trip Rating :
I've been travelling quite some years in "star" class. A good
alternative deal for first class. Martinair only had 12 seats the last
couple of years before they decided to have a more profitable deal with
about 100 "comfort" class seats and eliminate the star class altogether,
every seat in that class pays $ 130 more for a round trip. That
includes 3" more leg room. There would be free wine/drinks with diner
(also limited). That is normal with diner on an intercontinental flight.
I have not seen any airline yet without a business class on such a long
distance. I think they made a big mistake, even with having only had 12
star class seats. Why not keeping the 12 star class seats (at least)
again (minimum), on top of 80 of comfort class seats and keep everyone
happy!

I have recently been flying Martinair from Amsterdam to Cancun, star
class, the last leg of long journey (with Alitalia) from Beirut via

Martinair doesn't pretend to be a five star airline, but the friendly
staff on board really stands out.

I have just returned from a family Holiday to Orlando and flew Comfort
Class with Martinair both ways. Flight was excellent and cabin staff
very friendly. We could not fault the flight and the added bonus for us
was the big savings (£200 each x 4) compared with the British operators.

Martinair from Toronto to Amsterdam return. We flew comfort class at an
extra cost of $79-00 p.p. on the way to Amsterdam and economy return.
The flights were delayed both ways. The food was very good as far as
airline food goes. Flight Attendants attentive and were representative
of the experience we had with most Dutch people we met ie. very friendly
and welcoming. The main issue we had was the comfort class seats and the
response from Martinair Customer service; we paid an extra $79 per
person, the seats were very uncomfortable, no foot room in row 6 behind
Star Class (we could not place our feet under the seats and had to sit
with our feet cramped sideways up against a barrier wall. It was by far
the most uncomfortable 7 hours we have ever spent on an airplane. The
economy class seats on the return flight were superior. The Martinair
customer service department (who you have to contact via postal service-
they do not have e-mail) acknowledged that "the seats in row 6 could
feel like you have less leg space because they have no seats in front of
them, under which you can place your feet" but they refused any
compensation. We will not fly with Martinair again, strictly based on
the experience we had with their Customer Service department. Their
customer service letter seemed to originate from their legal department
i.e. "we trust to have informed you herewith sufficiently, as their
final comment" and widely misses the mark as far as customer service
goes. This experience has truly left us feeling ripped off and
dismissed.

My wife travelled from Schiphol to Tenerife. She had 5kg excess baggage
for which she was charged 50 euros. Martinair charges 10 euros per kilo
for a return journey, so one would assume that they would charge 5 euros
per kilo for a single journey, which this was. But no - she was told
"our regulations mean you have to pay excess for a return journey, even
if you only have a one-way ticket". What a con!

Martinair from Amsterdam to Miami. After having been sitting on the
plane waiting for take off for 3 hours, it was announced that the flight
had technical difficulties. As it turned out, the flight was going to be
24 hours delayed. Since our son has food allergies we needed the our
suitcase where we had special foods. At first they refused, they claimed
we could find the same kinds of food in Amsterdam (at 11PM). After
having argued with them for one hour, and waiting for one more, we
finally got our suitcase. The following day, the plane was finally ready
for take off. We were very disappointed when we got on the flight. The
plane was really old, uncomfortable and outdated. It looked as if the
entertainment set was from the 80's. The crew was rude and unhelpful.
They would not attend passengers that called for them. When confronted,
they said that we had to go and find them if we wanted something - I had
never heard of anything like it. On the return, the flight was once
again delayed. We missed all our connecting flights - come back home 20
hours after schedule. We asked for a confirmation of the delays, but
received none. Never again Martinair!

We - party of 8 (2 families) - flew Martinair from Amsterdam to Orlando
6th October and returned 20th October 2006. We upgraded to "Comfort
Class" both ways. Leg room was great, personal DVD players were great
(although they were available to rent in economy for only 12 euros) and
food ok. Flight attendants mostly pretty rude/unhelpful/unsmiling. Think
they either need to get some training or another job! Everything seemed
to be an effort. I had a dirty tray at the beginning of the flight and
the attendant was most put out that she had to get a cloth to clean it.
We all thought that they were reluctant to top up our wine glasses or
give us another beer. Comfort class was advertised as providing beer and
wine throughout the flight. I got a very small glass of wine before the
meal and one other during the meal. I asked for another but it never
appeared. I understand that people drinking to excess could be a problem
but more than a couple of tiny glasses of wine would have been nice. It
was the same on the return flight. However, the flight attendants were
slightly less surly on the way back. the planes were dated and there was
not much padding on the seats but all in all well worth the money. BA
were going to charge £300 more than we paid for the Martinair flights
and for a family of 4 that is a lot of money.

Amsterdam - Orlando. Upgraded to Comfort class and have to say we were

My husband and I flew Martinair from Vancouver (YVR) to Amsterdam on
economy and upgraded to comfort class coming back. We were pleasantly
surprised to find that Martinair provided adequate service, food, and
leg room (for a charter airline). Both segments we experienced no delays
and we were fed three times during our transatlantic flight. The meals
were adequate; curry chicken as dinner and cheese sandwich for
breakfast. We received a snack part way through the flight; a bag of
pretzels the first time and a warm pastry the next. Coffee, tea, and
red/white wine offered numerous times. Going there, the plane was only
half full so we snagged three seats between the both of us. Coming back,
comfort class gave about 32-33" seat pitch and offered ample leg room
for my husband who is 6 ft tall. The personal dvd/tv players, which were
included in Comfort class, entertained us. Otherwise, the rental for
the personal entertainment unit is about $12 euros. The flight
attendants were courteous and efficient. Check in was swift, but we did
check in 3 hours ahead. The interior of the plane is a bit outdated and
the seats were noticeably worn down. With the money that we saved from
flying charter, we'll definitely consider flying with Martinair again.
Overall, Martinair is for the value conscience traveller, who is happy
with just the basics.

AMS-SJO return, both flights in Star Class. Change of plane at Miami
with old B-767's for the transatlantic legs and much newer A-320's
across the Caribbean Sea. FA's smiling and attentive. Seats better in
Airbus than in B-767, where they were showing not their age but the date
at which they were conceived. Two choices of menus (each with 3 plates)
with fresh and tasty food, not gastronomic but better than standard
meals usually served in air. My only regret is the lack of lounge in San
Jose, where you must check-in at least 3 hours before take-off but
where, with one Star class counter for only 12 passengers, you are very
quickly whisked through. All in all, a very positive experience,
considering the rather low cost of the ticket: better than Economy Plus
and at least as good as Business flights in some airlines.

We are a large family (6 children 13 to to 2 years old) and chose
Martinair because their prices suited our budget. We flew to Miami from
Manchester, UK via Amsterdam on economy over the Easter break 2006 for
our dream vacation to Florida. The bottom line is that you get what you
pay for! Flights were delayed at both ends which meant a long wait in
Amsterdam on the outbound but the consequences were even worse on the
return with missed connections resulting in a 24 hour journey from Miami
via Schipol then via Aberdeen and then onto Manchester with the
subsequent loss of all our luggage including the strollers that were
needed for our little ones whilst waiting around in the various airport
terminals. Staff were friendly if sometimes overly assertive at times
and rules with regard to the children and seating regulations were
unevenly applied on both flights which led to some confusion both for us
and some of the cabin crew. Our advice would be that if you are a
relatively young adult with no dependents travelling with you then
Martinair offers you a good budget deal. Otherwise don't touch them If
you are not flying direct or are in a large party/family. Careful
planning six months ahead was futile with regard to connecting flights
as the Martinair scheduled departure times kept changing with alarming
regularity. We changed our KLM connections at least 4 times but as
Easter is such a busy period with 2 months to go we lost the flexibility
to do this but unfortunately the Martinair flight times kept on changing
leaving us praying the flights would be on time. Sadly our prayers
weren't answered!

Flew Martinair November 16th to Miami, back on the 20th. Upgraded to comfort
class, bit more leg space
than ec. Free use of lap DVD system with 6 movies, music documentaries etc. No comments, staff ok,
food ok enough to drink etc. Good price -quality, try last minute, can be worth it! One downside in
logistics: Me and my wife booked via "Travelocity" a USA based online booker. We lost our
tickets (tore down the whole house to find them). We had to buy new tickets ! Had to fill in a sc
LTA (lost ticket aplication) But Martinair and Travelocity point to each other about the refund,
Martinair is not being at all clear and helpfull about this issue at all. Much so for their
aftercare!

Schiphol to Orlando in economy. Flight on time, service was excellent.
The seats are no worse than BA, and the food quality is very good.
Return flight we upgraded to Star Class for $218, again could not fault
it. The seats were large and comfortable, service was 1st class, and
flight was pleasant. The only problem we encountered was a short delay
which meant missing our connecting flight from Schiphol to Aberdeen.
However, staff were helpful, and got us a later flight with no problems.

October 2005
My husband and I flew Martinair from Orlando to Amsterdam and back in
September. He had no qualms about reserving with Martinair, but after I
read online reviews, I was afraid of what we would encounter. I ended
up being pleasantly surprised with Star Class. Overall, we had a good
enough experience that we would fly Star Class again. Although our
outbound and return flights were both delayed, it wasn't much of a
bother because being Star Class allowed us access to the airport lounge,
which made passing the time quite comfortable. The outbound flight was
full of screaming children, but mercifully, there was a curtain blocking
off each aisle's division of Star Class and the Economy cabin. The
return flight didn't have curtains, however. Odd. Thankfully, though,
there were no screaming babies onboard on the way back. But the curtain
would have been nice because when one is sitting in row 4 of Star Class
(there are only four rows) and there is no curtain, the people in the
first few rows of economy are staring at whatever food and extras the
passengers up front are getting. Meals were above average and actually
quite nice. However, the tray tables on the return flight didn't open
up all the way, as the middle console where the drinks are placed,
seemed just a tad wide for the tray tables to fit perfectly. Still, the
food trays balanced just fine and there was no problem. But this little
tray situation prompted me to inspect the seating, and I discovered that
although the seats had brand new upholstery and carpeting (the cabin was
quite attractive), the seats themselves were older. The configuration
of our Star Class cabin was two/two/two (on both legs) and there was a
place to plug in the headseat in the middle console between each set of
seats, as well as on the outside edge of each seat. Also, there were
some control buttons that were not "hooked up" at all, such as the
button with the picture of the leg rest popping out, which wasn't
activated at all because there was no such thing. This means the
consoles and the seats were not meant to be together but ended up that
way after some "remodeling." Perhaps buying one thing from one company
and another thing from another was a good value from Martinair, but it
was almost like to pieces of a puzzle that don't quite fit and are
crammed in the space to make do. In the end we figured everything out,
but it was a bit awkward. The foot rests on both legs were the same in
that you pulled out a bar, which one would assume would go up a few
inches, but which only ends up about an inch off the floor. It doesn't
elevate the feet at all, so one wonders what the point is of having
them. The film projector quality is average and even a bit grainy, but
good enough to enjoy the movies. On the outbound flight we had a really
nice pillow with cotton case and a wrapped blanket on each seat. On the
return flight, there was a pillow on each seat, but each person had to
ask for a blanket in order to get one. Again, this wasn't a huge deal,
but sometimes it's the little service details that leave an impression,
and not having to ask for a blanket would have been nice. In the end
everybody in the Star Class cabin asked for one within the first few
hours and I wondered how much more work it would have been for the
attendant to just hand them out at once ... ?? There was a really nice
detail that was even nicer than other premium econmy carriers, and that
was that each seat in Star Class had a nice tin (nice enough that I took
ours home) with a Martinair destination painted on the lid. Each tin
contained socks, eye mask for sleep, ear plugs, toothpaste/toothbrush,
and lip balm. It was a nice touch. I am 5'6" (probably average height
for a woman) and when seating upright, I could stretch my arms out in
front of me and only the tips of my fingers would touch the seat in
front of me. In other words the room was quite a lot better than
standard economy. There's no doubt about that. You take the bad
(delayed flights both ways) with the good (good value for the little bit
extra in airfare) and from somebody who travels a lot (two overseas
trips a year and multiple domestic trips a year), I would recommend
Martinair's Star Class to others. It isn't quite as nice as Virgin
Atlantic's Premium Economy, but it's still quite nice for what you pay.
I will not hesitate to fly Star Class in the future. I'll just know
that the flight may be delayed (so I'll take a book), I'll have to ask
for a blanket (but I'll get one), and I'll put a sturdy carry on on the
floor under my feet for elevation. I hope this review helps you.

Travelled to/from Orlando from Amsterdam in August - whilst flight to
Orlando was okay, the return flight was appalling ! We occupied the
middle row - and the electrics were down therefore meaning we could not
switch on the overhead lights, or listening to the headphones. When my
wife told the hostess she said - " I am not a technician!" - very rude.
In addition, the seats had virtually no recline so you could not get
comfortable to sleep and the food was very basic. I would have expected
more from an airline for a long haul flight - all those out there -
think twice when deciding to save some money and fly with Martinnair on
a long haul flight.

June 2005
We travelled on Martinair in January/February 2005 from Amsterdam to Orlando. We chose Martinair
only because we could fly from Norwich, where we live to Amsterdam. The total was certainly not
cheap as Norwich/Amsterdam is reputedly the most expensive route per mile in Europe.
I only looked at this website after I had made the booking. As a result I tried to change the
airline but couldn't, so feared the worst.
Boarding was a scramble as there were no row numbers called. Why is it beyond the wit of airlines
to do this - or is it the staff? (Having said that, we recently flew from Heathrow to Los Angeles on
a BA 7478 and they didn't board by row numbers either)
Anyway, the aircraft was old with the tele. screens suspended over the isles with only half the
width viewable from the window seat. Headphones were only provided at a cost. The seat padding was
a bit on the thin side, but the seat pitch was no worse than on BA.
The food was at least as good as on BA and the staff friendly and kept up a constant supply drinks.
All round, the experience was better than I had expected and I would fly with Martinair again,
particulalry with the Norwich/ Amsterdam connection. Pity they no longer give KLM Frequent Flyer
points!

AMS-MIA-AMS ; mid-April 2005. After years of avoiding Martinair, I arranged a trip to the US
with them due to a restricted budget (plus a bargain airfare in Germany). Having flown with them
extensively in the past, I knew what to expect and was prepared for a very cramped flight.
Luckily Martinair have revamped their schedules and their flights to MIA are on a more acceptable
level (no more leaving in the middle of the night, etc). Even the change in airline livery gave
me some hope as it was due time for an overall facelift for the company.
Check-in at AMS was good - self-check-in counters available and I was able to select a good seat.
It was a full flight, as always, and boarding started on time. Upon entering the aircraft I
noticed that nothing had been done to the aircraft interior. As some others have already
mentioned, it is a very out-dated and somewhat dingy interior with the off-yellow panelling and
ratty blue seats. I had a peak and saw that the aircraft was 2nd hand, former owner was SAS, who
I'm sure kept it in better state. It's depressing that their inflight entertainment is still
limited to monitors in the passage-ways, which are not top-quality. Choices are dull and it's
horrendous to have to pay for the headphones. Flight left on time and the service was actually
good. It was also nice to see that Dutch was the major language spoken by the crew and not
German, as was in the past, which was always a huge turn-off and an insult to the Dutch
passengers. The crew do work hard and the catering was good coming out of AMS, abysmal out of
MIA (surprise surprise). During the entire flight they kept coming up and down the aisles with
drinks and even with Dutch saucijsebroodjes (sausage rolls) as a snack, which is something they
did in the past and was missed! Good to see it's back. The seats are horrendous. For an
airline based in a country where the people are giants, the seats are a tight fit (not as narrow
as Swiss, though) and the space between rows is a disgrace. Coming back from MIA I sat so
cramped that I had problems with the circulation in one of my legs for days afterwards - no joke.
And let's not start on the boarding procedures at MIA - it's lead by Latin Americans who don't
care and just want to cram everybody in as fast as possible. Really shocking to witness that
after watching how the (German) LTU flight to Düsseldorf next to us was boarded ever so neatly
and orderly. Martinair are introducing a 3-class system this fall, with a class between their StarClass and
Economy, and I am hoping that the aircraft will get a lease of life at the same time. I don't
mind paying for the extra room, but if it is going to cost about the same as other carriers, then
I would reconsider going elsewhere. Shame really, such potential, but they just don't bother to
work on that. Their Star Class remains a bit of a joke. I know to take it with a pinch of
salt when they say they offer a real business class, but the seats are old, not so spacious and
there are no extra perks that justify the price difference. So in a way I have mixed reviews.
Until Martinair decide to revamp their planes and think about comfort, then I would say choose
another airline. The extra stop and or change-of-plane may just be worth that extra bit of
money.

MCO-AMS-MCO late April 2005. Boeing 767 economy class was packed both ways. The
flights were adequate, on time, and the price was right. Only issue is my bag did not make the

time was 1:15). Staff was attentive and food service was no better nor worse than other airlines.

I flew with my family of 5 to Orlando from Amsterdam on 31st March 2005 in a Boeing 767 where the
legroom was absolutely abysmal, one of the most uncomfortable flights we've ever had and the flight
was 4 hours delayed. On the way back ditto same legroom problems and 4 hours late on 14th April.
Service was pretty good and the food fine as well but unless you want your knees up at your chin for
8 hours go elsewhere. There was no information available as we hung around Amsterdam for 8 hours on
the way out. In summary - plane totally unsuited to transatlantic flights, service good, food good,
inflight services OK - I wouldnt' use them again but if you can put up with the discomfort then try
them by all means.

March 2005
I flew "Star Class" Martinair January 20, 2005 MIA-AMS and returned AMS-MIA on February 1,2005.
Granted Star Class is not the same as the big guys business class but it sure is nice for the price.
It probably should be called "Premium Economy" and by the way it would still be cheaper that premium
economy on the big guys. I guess I'm among the fortunate few as Martinair has never been late( by
Federal guidelines ) and never lost my bag. I know that's rare but that's Martinair in my book. I
paid $1140.00 R/T including US taxes and fees, European taxes and fees and the new fuel surcharge. I
checked with Delta and Air France and quite frankly I just couldn't see paying $6,200.00 for a
flight to AMS and back when I could get a comfortable seat, good food and plenty of room for my 9
hour flight with Martinair. Personally I thought the price was right and I have thought so at least
6 other times. All is not perfect though, the only drawback I see is that you can request a seat in
business class at the time of booking but I have never been able to get the seat I request. The way
to get your seat is be there at the ticket counter when it opens and beg. I think Martinair is great
and will continue to fly them to AMS. The reason, for the past 20 years the US big six have raided
my pockets with outlandish prices for lousy service. Martinair doesn't do that. In reality though
think of Martinairs business class as premium economy and then you won't be upset at their "Star
Class."

February 2005
I flew Martinair from Orlando to Amsterdam and back again on February 14-24, 2005. After reading
the comments here, I expected the worst and informed my traveling companions of my finds. We
expected the worse and Martinair delivered! The plane had no individual air nozzles and the plane
was quite hot leaving Orlando. Water was coming out of the ceiling and hit one of those traveling
with me; but was hitting other travelers more. The sinks in the bathrooms did not work. To be
fair, the food wasn't that bad, but the flight attendents did what they could. The plane was an
older model with the old style Martinair tail symbol. We were glad to get to Amsterdam! Trip home
was much better. After a delay of just over 2 hours, they replaced our plane with another one and
we returned home. Again, no individual air controls and everyone must watch the same movie (after
paying USD$6 for the earphones). Food was ok and flight attendents were helpful and friendly. To
be honest, the only reason we flew Martinair was because a travel agent booked it. Based on my
experience, I won't fly it again unless I must. It's not bad considering the price, but I guess at
my "old age" of 48, I want some individual comfort. If you are looking for a cheap flight, this is
it. If you like being warm inflight, this is your airline! If you want more legroom, individual
air control, your choice of movies, then keep looking. You'll pay more; but in my opinion, you'll
get more. I've flown KLM, Malev, Delta, Northwestern, Olympic, Sabena Belgian (remember it?) and
other airlines. The flight going to AMS was the worst flight I ever had. The return flight home
wasn't so bad. I wouldn't recommend it unless you have no other option.
