Norfolk Int'l Airport by S MacLeod
28 November 2007 Customer Rating :
It is a second tier (non-hub) airport, so traffic is lower. As others have noted, it is surrounded
by a botanical garden, so the setting is beautiful. Recently, all of the food options were
significantly upgraded. Security moves quickly and efficiently. The arrivals area is large and
conveniently located next to the parking garage for a quick departure. Rental car counters are
right in the arrivals area. Which brings me to the only negative -- waits for checked baggage are
noticeably longer than almost any other airport. Figure on a minimum 30 minute wait. Would
recommend getting your rental car while you wait on your bags.

Over the years have had the pleasure of travelling through this airport,
surely the best planned facility of it's size anywhere in the world.
Maybe all would-be new airport planners should pay Norfolk a visit to
see what a well designed airport should look like; and that's not even
mentioning the surrounding beautiful botanical gardens, a very pleasant
change from the usual grimy industrial areas adjoining most airports.

Norfolk International Airport (ORF) in Norfolk, Virginia is one of the best airports that I have
flown into or out of in the past year. The airport itself is set in the middle of a beautiful
botanical gardens. It is great to wonder through the grounds of the gardens if you have several
hours to kill between connections. The airport has a variety of resturants that are very reasonably
priced and the food is excellent. Access into and out of the airport is easy. Parking is great
with a well lighted attached parking garage. The new arrivals terminal, which was recently
completed, is huge and baggage retrieval and rental car pick-up is a breeze. The only thing lacking
at this airport is direct access to the Interstate highway system. After leaving the airport
property, you have to travel through a residential/commercial neighborhood to gain access to the
Interstate.
