I've been a regular user of BHX for 20 years and unfortunately the last few have seen a marked deterioration
in the experience. Security and border control are a particular problem. Margins are the main focus of
management and if that drives away core customers (passengers and airlines) then it seems to be a question
of so be it. Most other business airports I use regularly (LHR, SVO, IAH & AMS) have improved greatly in the
last few years or at worst stayed the same. For me now the 40 minute time saving it offers me over LHR is
becoming increasingly irrelevant.

I've travelled from MAN, LHR, LGW and BHX and I find BHX better than the others. It's easier to get through
security, checking in is less stressful. LGW is horrific for getting baggage but BHX is always much quicker. I
do agree with the astronomical drop off and pick up charges! £1 for 10 mins! Least LGW is free!

This is my nearest airport, and unfortunately I am unimpressed. Birmingham leaves a lot to be desired
despite the so called improvements. Its got rip off parking fees, you have to pay for a luggage trolley and
you don't get your money back. Coming through security, you suddenly arrive in the midst of the 'duty free'
shops. Why have they not included some mechanical walkways. Luggage takes quite a long time to come
through on the carousels. One good thing about this airport is OCS, who deal with passengers who need
assistance, they are brilliant and provide a wonderful service, its a pity the same cant be said for the rest of
the airport.

Used BHX in preference to MAN for a trip to Denmark. Efficient - minimal queuing either on outbound security
or inbound immigration. Luggage delivered speedily. Shops everywhere but that's just how many modern
airports are I'm afraid. Quiet spaces can be found just beyond the shopping area. A lot less stressful than
MAN, and much cleaner.

Always the same ridiculous drop off and pickup charges, it would not hurt having a couple of hours parking for
a reasonable price. I might even use the airport cafe and spend a little more money on a coffee while I wait
for the unexpectedly late plane. I may then not do everything I can to avoid this airport again.

I arrived in the middle of the day and was able to use the scanner to get through immigration. No queue and
I was done in less than 5 mins. Perfect after a long journey from Australia! The airport looked clean, and of
course one has to navigate through shiny duty-free shops just to get into the country, but overall I found it
much more pleasant than the busy Heathrow. Departure 4 weeks later was early (6 am), and the airport was
getting busy when I arrived at 4.35am. However, I got from passenger drop and through security in less than
30 minutes (having checked in online). Clearer signage would have saved me walking in a big circle to get to
bag drop, but when I got there it was quiet and the check-in agent was very friendly and helpful.

Arrived back from Dubai on time, 6.45 Sun evening and had to wait 1 hr 20 mins before the luggage came
through. Servisair did nothing until people started to complain at their desk after an hour. It didn't help that I
counted 6 uniformed Servisair personnel in the concourse standing around looking bored, including 4 staff
whose only job seemed to be to stand next to the belt watching us and occasionally removing a piece of
luggage from a previous flight. After a 7 hour flight lands on time, how can luggage take another 80 mins?
Birmingham Airport leaves a very bad impression on passengers who have to endure such dreadful standards
of service.

Agree totally with previous posts regarding security, travelled during mid term and it took 60 mins to clear
security (3/10 desks open), while facilities are okay inside and prices are no more expensive than
MAN/LBA/LGW, I wouldn't use them again until they consider more appropriate staffing arrangements. If you
are going to go fast track bear in mind this will only move you about 50% along the queue, a queue you don't
experience at MAN - the airport we will be going back to I am afraid.

Birmingham is ok as an airport generally, but why is everyone not outraged by the fact that there is now an
option to pay for express security clearance at departures, which is being forced on busy people by the long
delays caused by the new layout which other reviewers have mentioned. A cynic would suggest that the long
queues are a deliberate ploy to make more money from this scheme. Either way, this is a total exploitative
rip-off akin to the credit card booking fees charged by airlines and other on-line operators. Sort out the
security process to make it quicker and less onerous for all customers please!

I did not think there was going to be a big queue at 4.30 in the morning yet there was. I thought Birmingham
International were meant to have changed that, yet I see no changes! On the other hand I thought the
facilities offered at Birmingham were good, plenty of places to eat, plenty of shops with a good amount of
toilets which is handy when you have young children. The internet was also very quick and handy.

Travelled to Kos, airport quiet for mid-morning. Everyone polite, including security man who patiently searched
hand luggage to locate scissors mistakenly packed. No long queues. Departure lounge is now one glorified shopping
centre. Queues in WH Smith appalling whenever I travel from Birmingham, 2 out of 5 tills open is just not good
enough. Why have 2 shops with one dedicated to selling books only. Prices in "duty free" getting more expensive as
we experienced in arrivals, far better deals in supermarkets and on internet. Setting down/pick up time now
reduced to 10 mins for £1, yet another money-making venture. Why does Birmingham Airport continue to bite the hand
that feeds it? Baggage arrival slow, but that's normal whatever time you arrive. Come on Birmingham get your act
together, you need to provide a better experience if you want to attract more airlines.

I returned from Ibiza and had to wait 45mins for my luggage from belt 4. The only downside to this is always a
long wait for luggage. I queried the wait at the Servisair desk and they didn't seem too concerned. As for all the
other facilities I have no complaints.

Ryanair to Malaga return. Security check outbound was slow and took 45 mins to get through at 16.30 on a
Sunday afternoon. On return immigration queues were awful and took exactly an hour to process through,
however at least baggage was on the belt. Food/drink prices are average airport prices now and terminal looks
clean whenever I have passed through.

This airport is awful. When I arrived back from a holiday, it was around 7.45pm and it took an hour of waiting
before all my baggage could be collected. My biggest problem is that they charge you £1 for a trolley to carry
heavy suitcases. Every other airport I've been to around the world do not charge to use trolleys, even the tiniest
airports in Malaysia don't. At evening times, the airport is poorly staffed and service is horrendous. It's quite clear
when you walk around that a lot of money has gone to waste on stupid gimmicks.

Drop and Go charges, as far as I am concerned as a fairly frequent visitor, have been increased without much
publicity resulting in a doubling of the minimum stay having been reduced from 15 to 10 mins. Even 15 mins is
insufficient time to help people with disabilities, elderly folk or unaccompanied young people, resulting in making
even a shortish stay an unwelcome expense. This adds no capital to the appreciation of an otherwise very good
airport experience as a 'dropper-off' or as an air passenger.

Scheduled Monarch flight to Almeria. I've been using BHX for about 30 yrs mainly for holiday flights. Pre Booked
car park meant a short walk to check in hall, check in was relatively painless , I was worried about the security
queues but we went through in about 10 mins (Thursday midday), even the security operator mentioned about
how quiet it was. It's like Manchester now as you have to fight your way through duty free but on the other side
there's plenty of seats and shops/restaurants. There's no announcements of flight departures but plenty of
screens telling you of progress so no problem. Overall it did what it promised, yes prices in restaurants are higher
but show me an airport that doesn't.

This airport lacks basic amenities and the big one is the lack of water fountains. The authorities force you to buy
expensive water plastic bottles. They also keep you in the shopping lounge for long time. Your gate is announced
only 10 mins before the departure. The shopping lounge is crowded, very loud with retailers playing loud music and
the shops are extremely expensive.

I think the "one terminal" revamp has fairly improved the overall departure experience from
BIA, especially for those once using terminal 2. The look now after security, is that of a
big modern airport more similar to Manchester Airport after the last refurbishment. Only
disappointment is when realizing that the gates area of terminal 2 has been just "connected"
not improved in any way. It is still the small, dark, depressing, round area filled with
extremely dusty carpets that it used to be. Only now the contrast with the rest of the airport
is more evident. Can't say much about the queues because I usually depart on Sunday afternoons
when the outbound traffic doesn't look predominant. Finally I will always support this airport
at least for the excellent connection with a main railway line.

Usually I am travelling Business Class with Emirates so after security it is straight to
the lounge. This time we were travelling on a charter airline so had chance to look round
and savour all the airport has to offer. Check in accomplished in less than 10 mins and
security only 5 mins or so more. A breeze. We had no problem finding a choice of
seating and settled into Wetherspoons for a beer and a coffee. Of course because it is an
airport and they can, the prices were way over the top. Choice of shops was good but prices
were not a lot better, if at all, than on the High Street. Duty free in the UK seems to
have gone downhill rapidly over recent years. Boarding was good and efficient with plenty
of screens around to tell you about the flight so no worries about missing the boarding
call. Very good. On return the immigration desks were well manned and we were through and
into baggage reclaim in under ten minutes of getting off the plane. Luggage was starting to
arrive onto the belt as we came through so that was excellent.

Thought the improvements would make things better. Departing on Ryanair and everyone now passes
through the same security area. The queues are as bad as before, and this was at 05.30! When
will the authorities at this airport take a good look at this area? Passengers should not have
to queue for such a long time. Landed on Monarch and went though a ridiculous procedure of
walking to a building, going up stairs, walking along a corridor and back down some stairs,
then back outside to the waiting bus - adjacent to the aircraft, what was that all about!
