Venice Treviso Airport customer review

(Netherlands)

Complaints dating back for years have not been addressed. There is no shuttle bus to and from Treviso just a regular bus line with no space for baggage. Departure queues are still long and chaotic 2 persons doing the check but three queues. Two toilets in the departure area leading to long queues there as well. Our Ryanair flight was cancelled due to fog and then you're on your own. No information from ground personnel on how to proceed. Ryanair does email you a link with instructions on how to rebook your flight but surprise the Wifi at Treviso airport is not operational! Facilities were recently installed to make flights possible in spite of fog but these do not work. The airport does not fulfil the requirements of an international airport.

Flew from here on 1st January - what a mess. There was a huge queue for outgoing passengers to have their documents checked and bags put into measuring frames. Then you filter through to line up for security before finally descending to departure gates from hell - cramped with competing passenger queues intermingling due to lack of space. The initial queue was so bad that they resorted to calling out particular flights which were almost due to close and getting those people through. Two baggage drops were open which were very slow so if you had bags you had to queue there first before joining the documents queue. Truly dreadful experience and one which we will not repeat. Avoid this airport at all costs.

Arrived here for a flight to Dublin with Ryanair. They had only 2 baggage drop desks open for a thousand people and one lady examining tickets and passports going into airport security - she appeared to be the internal Ryanair police checking weight on hang luggage. This is a disaster of an airport. Huge queues with no urgency at all and to be avoided.

Departing from Treviso is a nightmare especially if it involves a delay. Little information rude staff hot and cramped departure gate area. Very little seating and the toilets were unclean and insufficient for the number of passengers. Avoid this airport.

Arriving at Treviso Airport was fine. Luggage arrived quickly and passed through the airport with ease. Departing from the same airport was altogether different. Baggage drop queues exceeded 90 minutes due mainly to the fact that there were 2 sometimes 3 ladies checking in everyone. The same ladies continually left their posts to search for passengers as they appear to be without a PA system. No Air con no queue management no order! My colleague expected to pay for his excess luggage as he had 4kg excess. he didnt get charged or even queried whilst a guy beside me travelled with his large family who's cases fluctuated by .5 kilo over / under. He was subjected to unpacking / repacking several cases to get them dot on. Ridiculous unhelpful and time wasting Security fluctauted greatly from passenger to passenger with some walking through with hand luggage unscanned whilst others where nearly strip searched! Info screens show little or no information and announcements landisde are non existent whilst they were ok airside. Airside had one duty free shop one little kiosk type shop and a bar all of which closed quite early. Once called to the boarding gate all hell broke loose as there is literally no room to stand whilst queuing to board. We went down an escalator to the gate only to land on other passengers as there wasn't the room to get off safely! The place was crammed packed full and very hot. Children screaming everywhere and hundreds of frustrated travellers. A complete fiasco and one which I hope never to experience again. I travel extensively and am used to small airports with few resources but none compare to Venice Treviso for disorganisation and poor practice. Thank heavens for Marco Polo!

I have just returned from a 22 hour delay at Treviso Airport. The flight to Treviso and arrival was absolutely fine but on arriving for the return flight the queues to check in were over an hour long. There was hardly any information on the screens as to flights and once through passport control we found out our flight was delayed indefinitely. Eventually after waiting for over 5 hours without any news (1.30am the next morning) we were told that our flight was rescheduled for the morning. The toilets and general cleanliness of the building were disgusting by this time. We went back through to find out information about where to stay but there was only one member of staff their to help 150 passengers. Everyone was told to sleep on the airport floor or find their own accommodation for the night. (This was very difficult at now 2am in the morning.) We were told to return at 7am the next morning for the rescheduled flight at 9am. Again everyone queued up for over an hour went through security then we were told the flight would now be rescheduled to 5pm. Many people went back through and complained but airport staff were rude and unhelpful and would not help anyone to change flights or find an alternative way back. We were given food vouchers by Ryan Air of the value of 5 euros every 3 hours. However there was only one cafe in the departure lounge. In this cafe they refused to let you spend the voucher on any food you wanted - you had to have a bottle of water and a specially made up panini. These were stale and very unpleasant. They cafe had much better food but would not let any people with vouchers use them for this. After three meals of paninis we complained and were eventually allowed a slice of pizza but still not allowed salad or fruit. The airport was very stuffy and hot the toilets were unclean and the staff were very rude. The flight eventually left but security was dreadful - anyone could have boarded our flight and passports were not even checked. I would strongly advise anyone traveling to this airport to cancel their flights and readjust their itinerary. I understand that the cheap airlines travel here but it really is not worth it in the end.

Inbound fine if weather is clear. Outbound - avoid like the plague. Departure areas are cramped ill ventilated and overcrowded. Not a pleasant to be especially as the air conditioning is inadequate. Information is sparse and not necessarily correct. Gate staff are young rude and unhelpful. Ryanair queuing system collapses easily.

The arrangements at this airport are atrocious. We had the misfortune to be two amongst hundreds of passengers whose flights were cancelled late at night this week because of fog. Little support was offered to those affected many of whom were elderly distressed and abandoned. We managed to fly back to the UK from Milan two days later - to E Midlands (our car was at Liverpool!) having incurred significant additional travel and accommodation costs.

Very poor airport. Inadequate buses taxis seating and refreshments. Cannot cope with flight landings in anything other than good visibility and if your flight is cancelled you are in for a hefty cost and long delays to make your own alternative travel plans. Play safe and use proper airlines into a proper airport.

Don't be fooled by positive comments. The queue for bus tickets on arrival at Treviso went around the arrivals hall and when I stopped watching after some 45 minutes still had people nowhere near the front who had been there when I arrived. Taxis are infrequent and expensive to take into Venice - 90Euro. There are no systems for landing planes in very mild fog which is not infrequent and then you have little chance of getting information on what to do. If you must go to Venice (and you must it's lovely) go to Marco Polo and pay the extra.
