Airport conditions are fairly reasonable given the recent difficulties. Do try to have your visa in good order before arriving. Visa on arrival is only possible if it has been arranged in advance and takes some time to issue at the airport. Apart from that the arrivals process is OK. Just follow everyone else! Departing is also not too bad. However as has been pointed out the signs are all in Arabic so it can be difficult to know where to go. Check in is a little chaotic. Finding the departure lounge may not be that easy. Staff are actually quite helpful and polite. There are a few shops and a basic business lounge. Wireless internet is available and works quite well.

Small airport that seems to work more or less OK. All signs are in Arabic only so navigation can be tricky for a non-arabic speaker. Airport staffs grasp of English was slim but enough to get you to where you needed to be with a bit of common sense. Upon arrival we followed the crowd to the Passport Control and said "English" to one of the guards and were shown to the CD/Dipolomatic Passport Area where our passports had an initial check and were then pointed to an ajacent window were a lady said "Group" which meant we were on a group Visia which they then verified before having the passport stamped by 3 stamps and we were in Libya. Next a check that the passport had been stamped by a guard all hand luggage scanned and downstairs to Baggage Reclaim where the cases came through quickly. Suitcases then scanned and we were in Arrivals. Money Changing was simple no forms to complete! Upon return for International Travel there is a Cafe and small Duty Free Shop and Gift Shop beyond Passport and Secuirty before the Departure Gates that only takes Hard Currency. There is a 4th Floor Cafe in the general area that gives good views of aircraft coming and going and has a reasonable choice of snacks and cooked food. It seems to close about 20:00 in the evening.

A rather small airport yet hard to navigate for Westerners as all signs are in Arabic only. Both immigration and emigration take time - my counter just closed when I was one person away of reaching it "we are so tired now!" Business class lounge (Austrian) crowded attentdants do their best which is not too much.

Travelled in transit LGW-TIP-ACC back in November and on both outward and return legs I found the staff helpful and courteous. Although the airport may not be up to the international standards of LHR or AMS nonetheless a compact tidy terminal. It also has an excellent duty free shop. Remember though that Libya is a "dry" country. The only Becks you can buy is non- alcoholic!

Used this airport countless times in the past 18 months. My opinion is that it has it has a long way to go before it reaches an international standard. The Libyans know this and a new one is planned and will replace the old international one in a few years. The domestic building (separate) is brand new and although spartan and modern it functions well though security checks could be speeded up and better organised. You get on a transfer bus to be ferried over to the international side where a domestic plane is parked further out. The buses are very old and on one occasion has broken down (collapsed suspension!). The international terminal leaves a lot to be desired - on arrival you are stuck at immigration for a long time and go through two guys. Then you go through screen/xray before collecting your luggage downstairs. The luggage often falls off the conveyor and you can find old luggage behind the back of the stairs! After this you arrive into the main hall which is in a drab dull olive-green plastic decor. For departing checkouts can take a long time and can be disorderly. Then it's a long wait through a myriad of security checks before leaving the green gloom for upstairs which has a better atmosphere but seating is very limited and they are cold hard metal seats. First class lounge is very good but also very busy and popular with families with kids. Gates are extremely basic and expect to change gates while they make their minds up. Don't use the loos in the gates - they are one of the worst I've seen on my travels. The whole airport is air conditioned and works well which is a must in sub-Saharan Africa.

Tripoli airport works. On arrival immigration is two guys - the first checks passport the second your visa and any "Wrong" passport stamps. Duty free on way down to baggage reclaim which I found very cheap but poor selection. Baggage reclaim fast then through x-ray to arrivals lobby. Departing similar immigration followed by boarding card stamping and numerous x-ray machines. Better duty free on departures but still a limited selection. New business lounge on 4th is OK with selection of soft drinks hot food etc - better than old one. But little chance of western newspapers. Domestic airport interesting with an array of abandoned aircraft at the side of the runway and an informal organisation.

Arriving at this airport is a little strange as it seems to be full of men wearing leather jackets. However departure is quite nice- its never very busy but everyone who works there is friendly and the cafe does a good selection of food.

Not a shining example of modern airport technology but it works. Arrival was quite easy since by the time our visas had been processed the queues had gone. Departure very easy with short queues. The only downside would be the fact that smoking seems to be allowed everywhere and ashtrays are not in use. Hence the cafe is rather uncomfortable. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Great little airport - somewhat bizzare security arrangements which seem to depend on who you are or who you are with but really clean and with a nice cafe and seating while you wait the far side of passport control. Duty Free expensive and poor selection.

The airport is different from how I last saw it. It's been renovated and finally reached an international standard. There's a lovely restaurant on the 4th floor called "Oea". I had a wonderful meal there. There's also a quaint but useful duty free section. A first class lounge can also be found close to the Duty Free section. Air conditioning and spacious areas throughout makes this airport impressive and comfortable.
