Toronto Pearson Airport customer review

A somewhat barren but functional airport. Boarded a CX flight to HKG in the early hours of the morning so there was not much activity around. Security checks were quick and staff were pleasant. The waiting area at the boarding gate was spacious enough but we were the only flight leaving and I suspect it would be quite crowded if there were more departures in the daytime. There were iPads on the tables for all to use which I thought was a great idea. There wasn't a great selection of shops and what was there was prohibitively expensive. All in all an adequate and functional airport without any frills.

As a frequent traveler I've experienced what the so called "Best Airports in the World" (i.e. Singapore Changi Hong Kong Incheon and Schiphol) has to offer. So how does Toronto Pearson compared to them? I would say Toronto Pearson is not quite in the same class as them but they are slowly catching up. The elite airports offer a wide range of shops services and restaurants so you actually forget you are at an airport. Toronto Pearson looks somewhat barren but they are constantly adding new shops services and restaurants so the difference is becoming less noticeable. I often hear about complaints of Toronto Pearson being too large (long walking distance). Although this is a fair comment this can be said about any other major airport in the world. If you have mobility challenges please ask for assistance and staff will transport you to your gate. For others please make use of the moving walkway. My biggest issue with Toronto Pearson is the "wait" for checked-in luggage - it's slow! There is no need to rush off the plane to get to the luggage belt. I suggest you to take your time and make a pit stop at washroom before heading over to the luggage belt. Toronto Pearson should definitely address this issue with luggage. It even happens during non-peak times.

Pearson generally works well but on Sunday I found that baggage return is as slow as ever when you arrive. From arrival at the gate expect it to take at least 20 minutes and invariably 30 minutes which when arrive on a domestic flight means that you don't have the extra activity of Immigration to deal with! What added to the "fun" on Sunday evening though was that the baggage hall had absolutely no carts available. However when I got out to the kerb there were hundreds of the things all neatly parked at the cart gathering points with staff doing a sterling job of tidying them into place. Not one of them was then taking the next step of returning carts to the baggage hall!

Long walk from gate to immigration but well signed. Immigration polite swift and efficient. Baggage took a while getting onto the belt and priority bags loaded last which perhaps says more about BA than the airport. Car rental just across the road so all very good.

I gave a positive report on this airport when I arrived but cannot do the same for my experience when leaving. Having checked in at 3pm all entrances to security had massive lines. There was no priority line for premium passengers and a full 57 minutes before the line reached security where passengers were treated to a display of indifference and "jobs worth" attitude it would be hard to beat. I will avoid using Toronto in future if at all possible.

Absolutely the worst airport maybe in North America. The long trek from the tarmac to the terminal go through customs only to put a bag on another carousel and then go through check in again is nuts. Airports with twice the traffic are much more efficient. Never through Toronto if I can help it.

Passed through Toronto Pearson on our way from Dublin to San Francisco. Horrible experience. Our flight was delayed and the airport had just come out of a red alert due to thunderstorms. Hundreds of people tried to find their way through the confusing three-step process to clear US customs. There was virtually no help available and no attempt to speed up the process so people could catch their connecting flights. Many people missed their flights. We will definitely try to avoid Pearson for future trips.

Just flew from Dublin to Boston via Toronto. Had to go through U.S. customs here due to the "pre-clearance" regulations. There was some new three-step automated process that caused total chaos. Everyone was confused about the system and there were virtually no staff to help people navigate it. I am not a fan of going through US customs before reaching the US as it makes the connection very tight. I will avoid flying through Toronto on my way home in the future.

Came through Toronto last Thursday terminal 2. The airport is clean and very nice looking. Signage was more than adequate. Gate areas were roomy and food kiosks were as expected. I think many of the negatives posted previously are more directed and the individual airlines rather than the airport itself. There was weather in the area at the time of my connection and I expected greater delays. The airport itself is quite nice actually the airlines may need some improvement however.

On June 28 I arrived at Pearson Airport from Sudbury with less than 1 hour to connect with my flight to Vancouver. As I am very unfamiliar with the airport and the gate was not recorded on the ticket I was confused as to where to go and could not find the screen listing my connecting flight. Heading up the escalator I stopped at the first kiosk I found someone at. There were two women and when I approached the first woman she indicated to me that she was busy finishing something 1st then would help me. I waited and moments later she told the second woman she was done and was heading home then left. I was dumb-founded and had to call the 2nd woman's attention as she was also walking away. When I asked which gate AC flight 161 was at she said "the screen is right behind you" then proceeded in a very rude manner to tell me which gate I was looking for. Had it not been for another staff member who was watching and took me to the gate in his cart I believe I would not have made my flight. These kiosk people are supposed to be helpful to those like me who do not travel often and find airports overwhelming. There is absolutely no call for the rudeness or belittling of passengers - without us they would not be employed. Perhaps more PR training is required for them.
