| This is a small regional airport with maybe a dozen flights a day, so maybe it does ok, but a booming population and tourism means that it can get crowded. On arrival, walk through the main hall full of departing passengers and then crowd around the tiny baggage carousel - you really have to shove people out of the way when you see your bag. On departure, check-in and security were fast (despite no self-check-in kiosks) but you then have to walk back outside to access departures, then there's a few cafes, shops and a bar in the departure hall. Prices seem even higher than normal for airports. There's an attempt at an observation deck but it has poor views and seems meant for smokers. No airbridges and you can get long walks to the plane in the unpredictable Queensland weather. Still, the airport's much more convenient for this area than Brisbane Airport, there's plenty of parking (long-term for $15 a day or even less - you can look it up on the website but the booking function doesn't seem to work), and there's a great approach over the water (probably for noise abatement) then a hard turn at 500ft to line up with the runway 30 seconds before landing.
