Small island airport servicing mostly domestic and oil industry with the occasional international flight. Airport is clean well laid out with a small adequate cafe however the security leaving is completely over the top I could understand it if I was coming to the Isles given the oil industry and drug problem but leaving? There were about 12 people on our flight had to walk through all the crowd control barriers that had been erected as if they were expecting 1200 people into the security area had to take of jacket sweatshirt shoes socks hair clips was then frisked with a detector wand came through Heathrow during the Olympics the security we experience in Shetland was 10 times more than Heathrow not sure if it is because the staff are bored or they think an airport security badge gives then delusions of being members of some super swat team.

Delightful little airport serving virtually all Shetland passengers. Internal flights from Aberdeen Edinburgh Glasgow Orkney and (twice a week) STN plus occasional scheduled flights to Bergen and Faroe. Terminal has a restaurant tourist office bookshop and car hire. Everyone is friendly even though they have significant disruption from time to time when fog closes down operations. The only gripe is that public transport to Lerwick is not frequent enough to meet all flights. But overall just like the rest of Shetland it is a refreshing change form the 'me too' culture of most of Europe.
