Skiathos Airport

✅ Verified Review | We left Skiathos on Friday 30 June after a reasonable arrival at the airport and a wonderful holiday. It was exceptionally hot, with temperatures reaching 30° C. So queue to check in (despite having printed boarding cards beforehand), then another queue to drop off the hold luggage, then another huge queue, outside in the baking sun with the queue snaking around the building to go through security (only a couple of scanners available) and passport control. Once airside, all seats were occupied with many passengers sitting on the floor. You guessed it - long queue for the toilet, longer queue for refreshments. Absolutely horrendous experience which will deter me from ever visiting this beautiful island again. No point in trying to beat the crowds by arriving early, as access to the departure lounge will be refused, as it becomes so crowded.

Skiathos Airport is one of the smallest airports. The arrivals area has one luggage belt and you are outside in no time. Departure area as well is very small and the same staff that are checking your bags at the departure hall before you check in, are also the security staff. So when they are done in one part of the hall they go to the other part where they open the security checks. It looks funny, since they are jumping up and down the hall, but airport is really very small and very manageable. There is no playground for children and toilet facilities are basic. There is only one shop at the departure hall where check ins are. Everything is very relaxed. They have no fingers, so expect to board the plane on foot from the boarding gate. Walking distance to the airplane is a few hundred meters.

The small airport of Skiathos in Greece receives very few flights a day, fortunately for us tourists. It descends directly from the aircraft steps and you can walk comfortably hall for baggage claim after less than 50 meters. Given the few flights arriving at the waiting time for baggage is really ridiculous. Inside the airport is just a small shop with a bar and cafeteria. I must say that the organization of the desk is not exactly the best, in my case there were two flights in that time slot and then the 300 passengers were to form a single line across the airport to access the desk checkin in which there were only 2/3 staff. Once you checked in to access the waiting room for boarding where there is a small duty free selling tobacco, magazines and souvenirs of the island. There are sufficient seating for passengers waiting. You can arrive directly with the car just outside the principal hall of arrival/departures. So small but functional thanks to the reduced number of flights.
