The airport is huge and very few speak any English so communication when trying to sort out problems is an uphill struggle. The Chinese officials were as helpful as they could be given our problems were nothing with which they could help us. Our problems were because Air NZ had not checked our baggage through to France. We were halfway through a 24 hour flight NZ to Paris. So after flying twelve hours solid our baggage was in China we had no onward ticket because our onward flight had left. Thus we had to emigrate to China (Bio security passport checks the lot) find out what to do (where to get an onward ticket?) and re-migrate through all the checks to get the onward flight. We joined endless queues and spent the entire three hours standing being frisked for explosives and walking kilometres through huge terminals. We only found our onward flight because another passenger on the same flight had been through it all before!

Airport is large clean and very new. Facilities are good and clean. Do not however book a lounge waste of money no facilities in the lounge unfriendly unhelpful staff. In fact most of the staff will not even acknowledge your presence find them very rude this was not good especially as we had 4.5hrs to sit and wait for our connection flight. Will avoid this airport at all costs.

KMG-PVG-SFO. Long walks to the required boarding gates. Wifi is there but requires a chinese phone to work. There is a point near Gate 19-20 with 4 computer terminals with free internet access. Not much options for shopping and over priced food stalls. Toilets are not of international standard but very much like Indian airports. Signs easily read and well placed so not much of a problem to reach your gate though be prepared for long walks.

As a frequent business traveller I fly from/to PVG at least once a week both T1 and T2 are huge clean and modern. Check-in baggage claim free wifi security check immigration are very efficient. The only and biggest problem is restaurant quality after security check/immigration very poor quality and nothing to eat definitely over priced!

Terminal 2: International 26/12 and 9/1/14 Domestic 26/12. As Pudong's newest terminal PVG T2 seems to be a bit "over-built" to allow for future increased capacity. On the one hand it is smart to plan ahead on the other it means at present the Terminal feels sterile and cavernous. Even our domestic flight required a 10-15 minute walk and the long corridors are lined with empty shops containing bored-looking service staff. On the plus side Immigration and Customs couldn't have been better. As foreigners with a young child they opened up the barriers and swept us to the head of the queue both times a Chinese group who tried to push in front of us were unceremoniously booted to the back of the line! Free wifi requires a Chinese mobile phone for a password although there are fixed computers available for internet access. There's the usual problem of over-priced food and drink etc but you expect that at all airports. Overall very clean new and spacious.

We were flying J class on SriLankan Air from SVG to BKK. After check in we were sent to the SriLankan shared lounge at Gate 22 Terminal 2 without being given alternate information on where exactly the plane was boarding. Our flight was also not shown on the in lounge screens as well. Upon asking about our flight which should have commenced boarding the lounge assistant tore our boarding pass rushed us to a gate down the ramp and ushered us onto a bus. After 2 minutes I left the bus and walked across the tarmac to ask for our boarding passes and passports. She began taking us back to the lounge. It appeared that our flight was near closing time for boarding and we were really concerned. After running about 100 meters back toward the terminal we finally found a screen only to see that the plan was in fact our plane and that it was about to close for boarding. We had to run all the way back to the plane and made it as they were announcing for us by name. I have never seen a more disorganised airport and more useless lounge staff and I must compliment them for their incompetence. The airport itself was disorganised and we stood in the checking queue with two people in front of us for 45 minutes trying to check into J class. The lounge itself was pretty pathetic and all in all the experience was useless.

The airport was overall good to me. It was not super clean but not dirty either. Shops were a bit expensive. However two flights shared the same public space in front of the boarding gates was not good as I could see somebody lying down on the floor because they couldn't find any empty seat to sit on.

As someone who has traveled to worse airports PVG ranks pretty decently. PVG is huge but with the Internet one should know where their flight is arriving/departing and the multitude of transportation options to get to/from the airport. Between taxis the maglev buses the metro there isn't a reason to complain. It's a bit of a hike to get to your departure gate or to C/I on arrival. I have never had any issues with a language barrier as I've chosen to at least learn some basic phrases in Mandarin. Bathrooms are clean food choices are abysmal CX/Dragon Air lounge is great wifi is non-existent. PVG is a great gateway to other cities simple layout inside and is pretty modern. I use it several times a year so I'm happy with it.

Extremely disappointing! I was flying back to Qatar check in was fine immigration was fine although there was no business class immigration so be aware to arrive early. My flight was at 1am. I went to business lounge it was shocking - the layout the facilities the service and the buffet as they call it. There was no hot meals except pot noodles drinks were all canned fizzy the only fruit available were bananas. I asked service staff for a hot meal and was told me that they don't provide them and to go to a restaurant or cafe outside the lounge. The next best option was burger king. Be aware that cafes and restaurants close and last order is at 11.30. Duty free shops all close at 11.30 and the airport becomes a ghost town. This is not the standard of any international airport!
