Santorini Airport

✅ Trip Verified | Appalling treatment of passengers, rude staff, and very few staff to ask for help. Poor communication around boarding and check-in information. We queued for over 40 Mins to be told we were too early for checking in, despite the board initially advising that we could go to the desk. We did meet one friendly staff member who tried to help us with bus information which unfortunately was completely wrong! Airport is not equipped to deal with the volume of passengers.

Not Verified | Very poor service. Apparently all the shiny clean coffee machines are ‘finished’! Both in the main departure hall and past Passport control. If you don’t want to provide facilities don’t pretend. If your staff are just hoping for a quick getaway after the flight has left get better staff!

Not Verified | 3rd world conditions. Departures involve a stampede for a standing place on a bus which takes you 30-100 yards to a plane you could have easily walked to. No boarding by row or zone. We expected better on an island like Santorini. Arrival is similar, you take a 30 yard bus ride from the plane to a long set of steps which you climb, only go down another set of steps 20 seconds later. Police at the airport were actually very good and act more like airport information officers than law enforcement. It’s the only way in if you’re flying. Just don’t have any high expectations.

✅ Trip Verified | Frankly in shock after going through this airport. 1,000 times better to ferry to Athens instead and take a flight from there. Airport authorities screaming at passengers to get on the plane, pulling people out of line to charge them arbitrary amounts, for additional baggage fees that has happened at no other airport with the same airline, and then denying that the fees were paid and demanding money again. People were sitting next to the bathroom, on the floor, in the stairwell, crammed into the upstairs patio because there are no chairs anywhere else. The bathrooms had no toilet paper or soap. This was really, really horrible.

✅ Trip Verified | Very rude security staff who treat visitors in an unbelievably rude manner! They are the Face ID Santorini as they are the first line that visitors talk to and interact with. However, they completely ruined the reputation of Santorini and greek people! The worst experience I ever had, please avoid this airport completely!

✅ Trip Verified | This tiny airport cannot cope with the number of visitors that come to the island. For our departure all standing room in the terminal (upstairs & downstairs) was taken up, with people also sitting on the floors and stairs. A roving customer service person was diligently telling people to delete pictures of the crowds (and then checking that they had). I was told it was so American tourists don’t see it on social media. A new terminal is being built but is only scheduled to open in 2021. Though the island is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay, perhaps wait till then if you don’t want to suffer.

✅ Trip Verified | The airport looks to be having work done. In the meantime it's still awful. They just move you around now instead of keeping you held at the gate in a small room. Some flights were delayed and the airport couldn't handle it.

✅ Trip Verified | It’s a shame that the airport is the last thing you see of what is an amazing island. We didn’t have too many issues other than the disorganised chaos that seems to be he normal state of affairs here. However when passing through the X-ray our baggage was flagged for further inspection - which is totally understandable. What isn’t understandable was the blatant and invasive search that the attendant then performed. We asked what he was looking for only to be responded by grunts and dismissive hand gestures. By the end our baggage was completely deconstructed, including my wife’s underwear, all over the counter for all to see. We were then told to move on quickly without enough time to at least try and clean up the mess this guy just created. What a sham.

❎ Not Verified | I would like to say a big thank you in a name of all pregnant ladies, because at my last visit at the airport the staff of the Santorini Airport took a big care of us, giving us priority at check-in and throughout the whole airport process. Big thumbs up! I never experienced such a good customer service even though yes, there are not too many facilities to sit down or wait, but this is a small airport. So keep going!

✅ Trip Verified | Santorini Airport is ridiculously small for the more than 2 million travellers that pass through it each year. However in spite of the size limitations they seem to do a good job of getting the passengers through. On arrival there were 2 passport officers working so the delay was not too long, baggage was already arriving on the single baggage carousel so no chance of missing your case. On departure they have a queuing system in place so you queue for your flight outside the terminal and only allowed in once there is space at the check-in counters. There were plenty of staff here to advise if you are not sure! Once you have checked in for your flight you then take any checked baggage to a separate line for security checking/X-Ray. One piece of advice is not to proceed through the security line with your hand baggage too early as there is very little space once through and only a small duty free shop and refreshment kiosk. We went and sat outside where there is a nice coffee shop and a good amount of seating. There are toilets which were clean the day we travelled through. An additional terminal is under construction and expected to open for the summer 2020 season.
