San Francisco Airport

I flew UA to SFO and was surprised how good it was. UA check-in chaotic was getting directed to go to the Continental (pre-merger) self check-in machines when I was on UA. United T3 very nice. Moving Sidewalk efficient.

Upon arrival from Seoul Incheon TSA immigration and customs officials were rude and curt. They yelled at us for going the wrong way without giving us a polite explanation or directions to other passengers who were confused to the ambiguous instructions about where to queue. None smiled and the staff that were there looked like they hated their jobs. Baggage staff also were observed throwing baggage around and looked like they did did not exercise care with other passengers belongings. While SFO International terminal is clean and well-designed the amenities are wanting since everything is so expensive. With the rudeness of TSA and immigration staff SFO is not my choice for flight needs. Even then it's still a step beyond LAX but that isn't saying much.

It can be congested at times. Security is fast but managing the lines is slow. There are some old TSA's who are not quick thinking (This is in Delta Terminal). Parking is good. Food is good but can be expensive. Good ground transportation and short term parking facilities.

Customer service was awful. It took me 2 hrs to check-in because there was no organization people were standing in lines but no one knew what the lines were for. No management whatsoever to be found. Over 100 people were waiting to get tickets on my flight because an earlier flight had been cancelled people were waiting on standby yet the plane left with several open seats.

Departing from the international terminal was a breeze. Check in was smooth and security was no hassle. Security officers were accommodating and friendly. Although there is nothing air side once you've passed security.

The new Terminal Two was amazing. Clean modern and easy to navigate. A lot of shops and restaurants placed around the terminal. Clean and comfortable seats and there are even tables for those with laptops. Excellent terminal.

Arriving at SFO is not a very exciting experience. Small spaces but clean. Very long wait at immigration. There are lots of counters but very few DHS staff so long queues. Baggage area is very small and the customs officers keep hovering around. Expect at least 45 minutes or more to exit the terminal.

Excellent international terminal at this airport. Friendly staff clean. Gate concourses are well configured with decent food/beverage options. Clear signage. Security check areas are overcrowded. Luggage carts cost USD5 (free at most international airports worldwide).

The best international gateway to the US. International Terminal is world-class with fast customs/immigration and baggage claim good signage and maps excellent and easy connections/transfers and superb dining options. Other terminals are decent enough in their own regard with the updated Terminal 2 being downright fantastic. Transport between terminals and to the city is easy and staff is very friendly and helpful.

Arrival on a domestic flight was a big confusing especially finding how to get to the monorail to get to the consolidated rental car facility. From the baggage claim area you need to take an escalator or elevator up a couple of floors cross a walkway over the main airport road then find your way to the monorail (and decipher the confusing signs to know what direction you need to go). Don't try it with lots of bags unless you have a cart (and know in advance how to lock the wheels so it doesn't roll down the monorail car). No shuttle bus to the rental cars that I could see.
