"Immigration had no people working"
James Partridge (United States)
✅ Trip Verified | Worst airport ever. Immigration had no people working and everyone waited over an hour and some 2 hours. It's like they had no idea flights were arriving

"great security, free internet"
14 reviews Carlos Brigolas (Portugal)
✅ Verified Review | Quito is a clean airport which I used for both domestic and International flights. Great security, free internet. Shopping and dining is expensive for a Latin American country. Check-in works fine with modern equipment. They have an annoying system of paying 2 dollars for a trolley.

"space for queues is limited"
3 reviews Sara Guevara Itagaki (United Kingdom)
Small airport and with almost no seats before airline check in. Counter check in / line only available to ticketed passengers. Be ready to show passport and boarding pass physical or electronic ticket or Web check in. Space for queues is limited so it could be crowded especially if there's another airline during check in process in the same area. Restaurants for general public in another building outside the airport. Almost nothing once you clear security and emigration. Only one very simple paid lounge. No courtesy lounges for Airlines.

"the airport itself is quite modern"
Luke Barber (United Kingdom)
When you get off the plane at Quito Mariscal Airport, you are greeted with a stunning view of the mountains. The staff are all very friendly, and the airport itself is quite modern. While there aren't tonnes of bars and restaurants like the airports at home in Britain, it doesn't matter. Because the facilities are satisfactory, and the staff behave the way staff should. I arrived in Quito after transit in Panama (which was a total dump with extremely rude staff) so to arrive in my final destination (where I now live) and to be greeted to my new country in such a friendly manner by immigration and customs was lovely.

Quito Mariscal Airport customer review

Quito is a really nice new airport about 45km from the city - there is very little available around it. The airport has free wifi, which is always a bonus. As it seems with all airports now the prices of small things like coffee etc are expensive. My experience with the new airport was excellent - not so though with the employees of American Airlines at Quito Airport - beware.

New facilities in the national arrivals/departures concourse, very nice modern terminal, new roads from Quito recently finished so the trip to city is quicker and easier, overall great airport.

We only used the airport for arrival so can't comment on departure related matters. The arrivals hall had all the facilities one would expect of a modern airport but was let down by very long immigration queues. We had to queue for just over an hour. There were two queues one for nationals of Ecuador (plus nationals of a few other South American countries) and the second for Foreigners. There simply weren't enough desks open for Foreigners but there were plenty open for Ecuadorians so they never had to wait more than maybe 10 or 15 minutes. This really needs to be rectified and also there needs to be clear signage as to which queue to join. In front of us was a couple from Peru who could have used the short queue had it been clearly marked. On the day of our arrival (3 Sept 2014) the new road from the airport to Quito had just been opened that very same day so the journey to the centre took us just 45 minutes even though it was a busy time of the day. Shame about the immigration queues as immigration staff were pleasant enough and this should otherwise rate as a good airport.

Still not in full working order March 2013. One hour for bags to arrive from international flight. Immigration fast and terminal clean. The worst part is getting to Quito. The traffic is terrible and there is only a one lane bridge across the gorge. Try to arrive on Saturday or Sunday when you can do the trip to the city in about one hour. Otherwise it can take you 2.5-3 hours.

Tale of 2 different airports arrival was horrible. Stood in the immigration line for 2+ hours. Heard similar if not worse stories for arriving passengers for the next day. Departure was fine. Check in was fairly quick immigration was painless. Appeared to have many stores/food options available but went to the lounge to wait. An additional inspection was required to get into the gate area-be warned you are not allowed to bring in bottled water even though obtained post security. Airport is very close to town (10-15 minutes to hotel) new airport appears to be about an hour+ drive.
