"a nightmare experience"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Avoid this airport if you have a wheelchair! I travelled through Oslo airport with my 95 year old disabled mother yesterday. We flew in, collected our 4 suitcases and stood in line to re-check our bags on a British airline. We had three hours and plenty of time to check in. First the woman at the check-in was told by someone in Cargo that they wanted a photo of the battery. Then they asked for some obscure information about the battery that we did not have, and told us we could not fly unless we somehow produced a paper with the information. My mother has been disabled for 40 years and has flown several hundred times on flights in Europe and the USA with the same model of wheelchair she still uses. It's a well known brand. We have only ever been asked for the weight and dimensions of her wheelchair, and the type of battery (dry cell) and how it turns off (by key). After standing there for an hour and a half another check-in person finally found some information on-line and we were told to go as quickly as possible to the gate. I asked for help getting there as it was 15 minutes before the boarding time. I pleaded with the check-in person to get our suitcases on board (they had been taken off the plane half way through this incident). No help was given as we had to negotiate security, the length of the airport, and passport control by ourselves. There was no time to use a disabled toilet (which we knew from our trip through Oslo a week earlier had a broken seat and was dangerous) which resulted in my mother not being able to use a toilet for 12 hours (she can't walk to use the ones on the plane). This was a nightmare experience which only got worse when we landed at the next airport.

"Its always understaffed"

(Norway)

Trip Verified | Could have been quite nice small airport but some things has to be improved. Its always understaffed - security, passport control, cleaning and maintenance. Especially on holiday time Its always the same - management forget to check the calendar for holiday or peak times. For the cleanness and tidiness looks like management fired everyone, hired some incompetent externals and never leave their office chair to walk around the airport and check how nasty it looks.

"never experienced such an interrogation"

(Singapore)

Trip Verified | This was my second trip to Oslo this year, but I have never experienced such an interrogation by Norwegian Immigration during my previous visits. You would think that coming from a country with one of the most powerful passports in the world would help. I’m not trying to sound arrogant, but one would expect that Oslo, Norway (Immigration) would have done their due diligence regarding passengers arriving in their country, especially given the high number of tourists. As someone who travels frequently, the officer would have seen that I have visited Norway numerous times before and would have access to intelligence regarding my background. Instead, I felt subjected to an interrogation with questions about what I was doing there, how long I would be staying, my return flight, and the address where I would be staying. This unnecessary scrutiny made me feel as though Norway does not welcome visitors and treats everyone like a potential criminal, especially if their flight originates from Istanbul. I understand the necessity of conducting checks on visitors, but there is certainly room for improvement in their level of security and scrutiny.

"treated without compassion"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | We were travelling through Oslo on the way to Manchester. We had our 10 year old son with us who is autistic. We had fast track access to security as SAS Plus customers. Our son was wearing a sunflower lanyard which is the recognised symbol of a hidden disability. When my son walked through the metal detector, which is no easy task for him, it immediately sounded and he was selected for secondary screening, with the girl pointing him towards the full body scanner. She stated that this was a random search. At this point he had a total meltdown which is something that autistic children have. He did not have any concept of what a random search is. The girl who was at the scanner smiled but gave the impression of being totally disinterested and again pointed him in the direction of the full body scanner. Following with my son having a total 'meltdown' screaming and shouting two supervisors appeared and swabbed my son. However, by now the fact that he was in this agitated state was a distraction to others and would have certainly affected the ability of employees to carry out security checks. I believe this led to the security lane being closed. This situation could have been easily avoided had the girl on security taken notice of the lanyard and taken my son and myself to one side and explained the situation or as is acceptable used some discretion or offered alternative methods of screening. As such it must be questioned the level of training as regards hidden disabilities and autism that the security staff at Oslo airport have and their understanding of issues caused by going through security for autistic children as ACI EUROPE guidance, “Assisting Passengers with Non-Visible Disabilities” outlines. Lastly it should be noted that in all of our travels through numerous airports in Europe and the USA this is the only time that my son has been treated without compassion for his hidden disability has not been addressed. Hopefully, someone from Oslo Airport will take note of this and implement changes to training and protocols.

"absolutely a terrible experience"

(United Arab Emirates)

Not Verified | Check in procedure was absolutely a terrible experience. Staff seemed very tired and frustrated. Very few people working. No staff checking how people put their belongings in the trays in the first place (before entering the scanners), only checking this carefully after the trays go into the scanners causing them to be returned back into the machines causing further delays and items getting lost. In that procedure one of our ipads got lost causing further stress and anger, even more anger when staff show no empathy at all. Lines of people waiting and nothing moving. Staff not helpful at all and not pleasant to deal with at all. Very disorganized and this experience was totally unexpected from Oslo Airport. It seems that very few people work over there in these types of jobs which could easily be replaced by more intelligent machines. These staff members clearly seem to be tired, frustrated and show lack of motivation to such a routine nature or work. Our experience in Helsinki airport in comparison was wonderful and smooth. They had super intelligent machines which did not require us to remove one single thing from our handbags and staff there were cheerful and very helpful.

"Security check was horrible"

(Sweden)

Not Verified | The staff in the Security check was horrible, i have diabetes and my mother prepared the trip so I could have it easy when entering the plane. But when we where going to put everything in boxes, we clearly Said ”we can’t put our cmg (wich is a sensor that measure blood sugar) through the body scanner, and that I can’t go through one” they obviously didn’t understand. A man came and started to explain things and made us look like fools. He also threw my things Down with a aggressive tone. The staff Said I could go through a different machine instead, and I thought that they probably know more Than me, they broke the cmg wich made a mess. Clearly the staff has no idea.

"staff were so lacking in intelligence"

(United Kingdom)

Trip Verified | Hopeless girl at check-in. Young and poorly trained, didn't really know what she was doing. Staff at security were another level, the worst of the worst. I was (and am) wearing a substantial leg brace following an accident having fractured several bones. I was asked 4 times to remove the leg brace and each time I refused. I have to wear this 24 hours a day, 7 days week, to support my leg. The staff were so lacking in intelligence that they could not understand why some people have to wear body supports and as such, are disabled. Nor would these uncaring nor understanding staff allow me to walk through the scanner with my crutches and I was only allowed to collect them when collecting my other scanned items. The 2 young girls who appeared to be no older than 18 years did not have a clue what they were doing. They were rushing around like headless chickens achieving nothing other than being cruel to disabled passengers. My leg brace was initially scanned with an explosives scanner which was negative. The girl then disappeared around the rear of the conveyor belt to check other passengers items on the scanner machine and left me standing, without crutches, for at least 10 minutes during which time my bag with passport, phone, boarding pass, laptop, etc were sitting at the end of the belt for anyone and everyone to help themselves to. I was not allowed to move however during this time and when the inexperienced girl eventually returned, having rushed backwards and forwards whilst looking demented, she scanned me again including my shoes (I am unable to lift my left leg yet she expected me to do so despite seeing a leg brace 600mm in length) and said 'ok, go'. Unbelievable incompetence and no customer service skills. Worse, these 2 girls forced another female passenger to remove her even more substantial shoulder and arm brace following a very severe injury. She was unable to put this back on so one of the inexperienced girls tried to help her but without any care, empathy and kindness. The passenger was almost in tears as she was in so much pain having been forced to remove her support; she should have refused to remove a clearly obvious body-protection brace as I did. Passengers must stand up to these airport security bullies whose power has gone way beyond their thick heads. My worst experience in all my years of flying and Oslo Airport derives joy by insulting and being thoroughly wicked to disabled passengers. Oslo Airport, you are a disgrace to the world of flying and you should not be in business. I will think long and hard about my next step following a disgraceful security check towards a disabled passenger.

“this airport is a disaster”

(United Arab Emirates)

Trip Verified | Waited over 2 hours for our bags on arrival, we were the only arrival flight at the time. Other flights that arrived later received bags with no delay. The airline SAS blamed it on bad weather, the weather was good. No staff to help from SAS. All trains were substituted by buses due maintenance, had to wait in a line in the freezing cold for the buses. Wanted to enjoy downtown Oslo, but this airport is a disaster in many ways and I will avoid any stopovers here.

“excellent service and communication”

(Norway)

Not Verified | OSL has now been my home airport since March 2016, and I am proud of it and enjoy using it. High ceilings, large spaces and large windows form a basis for a travel friendly atmosphere. On this particular occasion, we almost missed our flight. Thanks to excellent service and communication between staff at Flytoget and the airport, our last minute check-in was smooth and swift.

"obviously micro assault for people"

(United Kingdom)

Not Verified | I travelled alone with my two children, ages 5 and 3. arrived 01 Aug. Imagine this will not be easy travel and also arrived to Oslo after midnight. Once reached passport control, the person who was checking passport, looked at passports of kids and says I cannot recognize them, UK passport will not be renewed until 5 years old and I said that is the system in the UK. Then the person asked me why I am in Oslo, I said for holiday, they then said "Holiday" "without kids mum", this is obviously micro assault for people / kids who may have separated parents and the persons face who was checking passport was looking at me suspiciously and added "where you stay", I said "oslo". This was all after I travelled with two young children and I was so tired, did not expect these questions.
