Newark Airport customer review

(United States)

My wife and I call Newark the pit of despair. My mom lives in NJ and we fly there from St. Louis several times a year. Each and every time we fly there we have an issue. Long lines rude TSA employees long delays cancelled flights etc. Southwest only has a few gates in the A Terminal gates A10-A18. This has to be the worst terminal ever. Long walk to the gate and once you get there you are in an overcrowded hell hole. There is one bathroom for tons of people and the food "court" is a joke. Then we go through the process of waiting to get on the plane sitting on the plane sitting on the runway before finally taking off usually 2-4 hours late.

Flew United into and out of Newark. What a disorganized mess. I felt like I was in a third world country. Use any other airport and airline!

It's been a long time since I flew out of Newark and this was a connecting flight from DCA (National Airport). The terminal C is not the most user friendly in terms of amenities. The choices of restaurants were pitiful and there isn't enough restrooms to handle the passengers and the inbound flights. The two restrooms I went to had no paper towels to dry your hands and the lines were long (for a men's restroom). Reading from other posts thank goodness I didn't have to check-in at the counter or go thru security.

I waited for a friend in the international arrival section of Terminal C and the only shop they offer there is a small Starbucks outlet and no chairs and no benches. Nothing. The friend told me that immigration was fast and smooth better than at JFK. For those who want to go to New York City: There is a local NJ transit bus number 62 available at the public bus curb which goes directly to Newark Penn Station and from there you can use PATH directly to World Trade Center - or to Christopher St 9th 14th 23th and 33rd Street in Manhattan with 1 transfer. Total cost $4.

A dreadful airport to go through the thinking seems to be that the more the passenger can be put through oppressively long queues the less chance there will be of an incident occurring. Firstly the wait at the BA check in was about an hour with only 3 desks open higher classes of travel had their own check in desks and the staff there were largely unemployed. Heathrow took five minutes. The wait to go through security was about 40 minutes there was only one desk with one officer and three belts Heathrow has approximately twenty belts and a myriad of security officers and again took five minutes. Another officer did come to help the one on her own but all too late and it looked very inefficient indeed it was also unsafe and I saw a large bottle of water go through on someone's hand baggage that went unchallenged. Signage was also inaccurate telling you to remove your shoes and belt but nothing about wallets pockets etc therefore time was wasted in operatives repeatedly having to get customers to rectify their mistakes they were also rude and overbearing in their manner. This airport is a throwback to the 1970's with staff who have a real attitude problem. Once through security we were charged over 20 dollars for two small lagers. Overall an awful experience.

Worst airport. When I arrived had to walk for a long time with luggage to the train. Train took 20 min to show up. I arrived to check in desk 42 min before departure and AA clerk did not even make eye contact just babbled something in her mouth and proceeded to inform me that I missed my flight. Was not nice or friendly. I missed my two flights had to beg for help and ended up in another completely different airport.

How can anyone say anything good about this airport! Arrived in Terminal A - long slow and narrow walk to the baggage claim. Then had to go to Terminal B to catch an international flight. It took 6 elevator rides a train and a lot of walking with all our luggage to change the terminal. Queuing was terrible at check-in mainly because the airport does not have any room. Security was backed up and yet only 2 of the many counters were open. It took 45 minutes to go through the security. Food court is a joke. Extremely rude staff. On top of it the airport is old and dingy.

The airport screening process took way too long. The longest screening queue that I ever encounter during my travel in US and Canada. Not enough TSA officers on ground to help out with the screening process.

This airport cannot handle any kind of traffic. I arrived from Miami at midnight went to the taxi line and the wait was 90 minutes. I have never experienced anything like this. I will never fly into Newark again.

When I departed this airport the wait in security was long at least 45 min. To add insult to injury we had to endure listening to the airport employees repeatedly shout instructions for security procedures. Employees were also incredibly unfriendly to those who could not speak English very well as they didn't understand instructions. I'm sure it's annoying when passengers don't listen to instructions however a friendlier more polite atmosphere would be a great improvement. I am American but live in Norway and was extremely embarrassed by my countrymen's behaviour and poor quality of service.
