New York JFK Airport

I have flown through here before and left the negative reviews but not this time. Yes it is dated and crowded. My family of four flew to Asia and out of T1. Check in at 6.30 am was fine security was no issue. This was our youngest at 7s first time flying and TSA were great to her. Let me though first agent explained to her what they were doing put her through and no issues. The TSA agent even gave her a high five for doing so well. 2 hour wait for flight shops just opening but grabbed a quick breakfast. Return 2 weeks later several international flights landed at once. Uhoh! Well not the case. Through immigration used the new computerized check-in took just a second. Off to get stamped and our immigration official was friendly. Chatted and caught up as he checked things asked both children how they liked Asia. Through got bags and a long line for customs. However it moved very quickly and the customs agent only asked about a box we had (needlepoint artwork) said ok welcome home and through. I have used JFK several times and always dreaded it but this time amazed how speedy it all went and nice folks were. Guess we just got it at the right times.

It is unbelievable that at this day and age JFK doesn't have family restrooms! Very uncomfortable situation when you travel with your 7 year old daughter. In general not a pleasant experience. When in JFK you just want to leave as soon as possible. Compared to German airports JFK is not to be proud of.

I travel through JFK terminal 1 every 3 weeks as a business passenger. Immigration and security is a shambles. Its a running joke that the first and business class queue to immigration is slower than the general and its a disgrace that they run it so poorly. At least 3 more lines are needed. Coming in more officers are needed as its so poor compared with Newark. This airport is the worst one I have had the displeasure of travelling through.

Flew in to JFK T4 from the UK last Sunday arriving at about 2.30pm. From reviews and press comments I was expecting the worst with long delays to get through immigration - not so. From the time we left the plane (at a distant Gate with a longish walk) to the time we exited the airport took about 25 minutes. No queue at immigration and no hold up at baggage reclaim. We had a similar experience returning to the UK from the same Terminal with minimal wait at baggage drop (thanks VA) and at security. Credit where credit is due! We might have been lucky but our experience of JFK was great. Only 9 out of 10 because prices were expensive. £8/$12 +tax for a bar of chocolate that costs £3/$5 in my local supermarket and £2/$3 for a small bottle of water.

We were transferring in JFK at night. Connection between our terminals with a bus was fast and without waiting time. Unfortunately at that time almost all shops and restaurants were closing (between 10 pm and 11 pm). Drinks and snacks are very expensive as well! I'm a non smoker but there's no smoking facilities within the security area.

Recent trip connecting at T8 for international trip. Nice structure but limited services. Departure was easy- connecting gate was next to arrival gate so very easy. Had loads of time so looked for something to eat. This led me all over the terminal very limited choices. Sad that an airport in such a foodie city has so little to offer. No real local choices. Arriving back was very lucky-absolutely no line at immigration so through in less than 3 minutes. Had to go all the way out to get domestic boarding pass at check in counters. Security line was massive but with TSA pre-check was through security within 3-5 minutes but then sad that I was stuck in the terminal with nothing to do and nowhere to eat.

Had a connecting flight from JFK back to Belgium. My connecting fight arrived in terminal C and from there I was told that my Brussels flight was on terminal B. So far so good. Caught a bus to Terminal B and as I had 5 hour layover I decided to find somewhere to eat. I walked all of terminal B into Terminal A and the main food choices there were McDonald's Panda Express a couple of sandwich places a Sushi place a shake shack and a small expensive restaurant near terminal B-34. Food selection in this terminal was horrible. I couldn't believe it as I pictured JFK to be a busy international airport with lots of options. Last month I had flown into Atlanta and that airport is above and beyond what I experienced at terminal B at JFK. I had to walk about 20 minutes until I found a customer service desk. I do have to say when arriving at JFK I went right through immigration. There were tons and tons of lines open and even though there were a lot of other people flying in I waited no more than 5 minutes to be attended by the custom agent. Luggage also came in fairly fast and that's why I thought this airport was much better as I was told horror stories about the immigration queue there but really it was a breeze. The B terminal though it seems to be new but it just lacks restaurant options.

I've flow in and out of the Lufthansa Terminal twice in the last month. I'm a European citizen and I arrived from MUC in the afternoon and the queue at the immigration wasn't so long: it took 40 minutes less than what I expected after reading the other reviews. After the custom control we collected our luggage and in less than 45 minutes we were checking-in in our hotel in Midtown. On the way back to Europe it was very frustrating to pass all the controls. TSA agents are rude. After passing through the security controls you arrive in a poor area: duty free is too small no other choice for food apart from fast food and toilets are dirty and smelly! Our flight took off on time and we didn't miss the connection in MUC. The only good thing of this airport is that it is full of taxis waiting for passengers and you don't have to wait for one like in BCN or MUC.

I had to transfer from T8 (American Airlines) to T7 (British Airways). We were given no info on the plane when we landed and the signage at JFK is laughable. Several passengers from our flight were doing the same transfer and we were all struggling. No one to ask a train which has little info on where it is going and a walk of about 25 minutes through dirty dismal corridors. Finally made it - it took about 45 minutes and actually T8 is pretty good but I would not bother with the priority pass lounge (run by United) it is very tired with little to offer.

Flew out of JFK to Tokyo Japan and had no problems whatsoever. Sometimes I think JFK gets a bad rep. A little delay at the ticket counter but security etc. had no delays. Restaurants were convenient and stores seemed reasonable. It's a fine airport to travel out of.
