"long queues to drop your bag off"

(United Kingdom)

Coming into Munich airport is efficient and quick - the same cannot be said when deprating. I have now used this airport a couple of times this year and it is always the same. Long queues to drop your bag off at easyjet and going through security - don't even get me started. Shops and restuarants are the only up side to this airport.

"has good restaurants and shops"

(Germany)

Transit in Munich from Tehran to Hanover. This time a bit more stressful as I needed to go through security again. Queing in front of security was not long. I love Munich Airport and try to transfer there rather than in Frankfurt because Munich is much better organized and has good restaurants and shops to kill the time there.

"two different worlds"

(Belgium)

Verified Review | Munich Airport is indeed two different worlds, but when you experience both, it is the lesser that you remember. Arrived at T2 from Brussels, and yes indeed, shiny and bright, many food courts and high end shops, a great place to be. However, finding one's way to T1 is not only diffcult because of bad signs, but it requires first a train journey, then a (difficult to find) bus, and finally a very long walk to C and B gates with almost no outside views. I felt lucky to be a fit person and not an elderly or tired passenger. I regret to say that T1 is probably the worst I visited in Europe and beyond for the past few years, a disgrace for the rich region that is Bavaria, quite incredible that top-notch airlines such Etihad, Emirates and Qatar Airways (that I flew) accept being relegated to such dirty and run-down terminal. Worst of all at T1 are the signs and directions. I am a very seasoned traveler, visiting 4 continents every year, but Munich's T1 is really abysmal for the latter and WiFi did not work.

"one of the more pleasant of Europe's airports"

(United Kingdom)

One of the more pleasant of Europe's airports. Plenty of space, typically quiet and low-stress. There's a good variety of decent food and drink options and shops that sell things you actually might want to buy, not just the usual tourist trinkets and luxury-brand junk. It's very welcome to have a proper supermarket at the airport. Only intermittent gripe is that queues before security can sometimes get a bit long, and many flights have the bother of a bus from the gate to the flight.

"I've had better days"

(United Kingdom)

What is it with security and queues Munich airports? This ongoing charade of uselessness achieves nothing but to delay and aggrevate passengers. They spend more time searching little old ladies and children than they do monitoring queues that are stacking up behind them. Thanks to the chronic understaffing at Munich security I have the pleasure of an 8 hour stay in Terminal 2 looking at €5 chocolate bars and €6 novelty panda key rings. In any sensible world 40 minutes would be enough to get through security but not when you have a cocktail of disinterested border guards who took 15 minutes to let 1 family of 4 through. I have had to now pay for another flight, rearrange childcare and spend 8 hours waiting for my next flight. I've had better days.

"transit passengers avoid this airport"

(United Kingdom)

Verified Review | At Munich Airport my connecting flights were parked at an uncomfortable and circuitous 5-minute bus journey away from the terminal on the apron. I shudder to think of what this "arrangement" must be like in January or in an autumn downpour. Both planes were standard Airbus types that can connect directly to a terminal gate. Access to the buses was down 5 flights of steps. No escalator or lift was available. If you're over 70 and have to carry an 8-kg cabin bag down 60-70 quite steep steps in a hurry it can be dangerous to your health. I was in transit on 2 occasions at MUC but the connections (all Lufthansa) were extremely tight: 60 mins on the outward journey, 45 minutes on the way back. While these short connecting times might work in a better organised airport, they are unrealistic at MUC. Walking distance between gates (all my flights were with Lufthansa inside Europe) is excessive. There are virtually no moving walkways. You have to go up several floors from your arrival gate to access the main terminal floor and the endless corridors you have to negotiate to get to your departure gate. Although I had already cleared security at my original airport of departure, I was forced to undergo a second security check at MUC. I was just one among hundreds of passengers queuing to go through a bottleneck of just 2 baggage scanners. This wasted 15 minutes of the already short connecting time I was given. It was unclear which passport and security points applied to which gates. This substandard signage caused another 5 minutes of delay. The departure gate for my connecting flight had been changed and was located inconveniently even further away than originally planned. Arriving finally out of breath at the departure gate I was told in no uncertain terms to "hurry up", as if it was my fault that I had turned up after the gate had officially closed. Then I had to negotiate the 2.5 floors of steps and the bus, etc. MUC is really badly planned and inadequately designed for transit. I recommend fellow transit passengers to avoid this airport.

"terminal is in serious need of an upgrade"

(Germany)

Tale of two terminals. I would agree that T2 is world class but T1 is small badly laid out. This was my first experience flying out of T1 and I was shocked, limited places available for food once you are through immigration and even less seating space at the gates, how they service a A380 (Emirates uses T1) is a mystery. Arrival was even worse with the passport hall so full you had to wait outside for people to process. Once through baggage retrieval was quick. The terminal is in serious need of an upgrade.

"absolutely brilliant time"

(United Kingdom)

I had an absolutely brilliant time in Munich Airport. I was in transit there for around 10 hours but there was plenty to do as you can sleep, shop and pretty much any other social activities are provided. However what I particularly loved about this airport is that fact that they have a Prayer room for each main religion. This is brilliant as many other airports just have a multi-faith which isn't too good sometimes.

"very good airport"

(Italy)

Verified Review | Very good airport. I found many toilets that were very clean. There were a lot of shops, bars and restaurants, even though they were quite expensive they were of a high quality. I didn't need airport staff. Excellent internal transport with the train connecting the two terminal and the mobile platforms.

"signage for passengers was confusing"

(Australia)

Horrible experience. We arrived on a flight from Dubai with 90 minutes to catch a flight to Basel. When we got off the flight the signage for passengers was confusing but we found a queue for a security check. It was very slow moving and many people were panicking because of the potentential to miss a flight. There was no one there to organize the queue, confirm that we were in the right queue or assist people who had an urgent need to get to another gate or terminal. The staff on security checking were unfriendly. We got to our next flight with only 10 minutes to spare. The terminal building was hot and humid. The only bright spot was a pleasant officer on passport control who understands the words please and thank you and the value of a smile. In future I will plans routes to avoid this place.
